Using only visual features decreased the accuracy to 76%, achieved by a Support Vector Machine classifier. We conclude that machine learning classifiers can generate accurate wound care decisions on lower extremity chronic wounds, an important step toward objective, standardized wound care. Higher decision-making accuracy was achieved by leveraging clinical comments from wound experts.Cardiac injury secondary to non-penetrating trauma is more common than thought, albeit, the injury is usually minor and goes undiagnosed without significant sequelae in most cases. Blunt cardiac rupture is much rarer accounting for less then 0.05% of all trauma cases but lethal in most circumstances. We present a case report of a young trauma victim who presented with both right atrial rupture and traumatic atrial septal disruption (ASD) requiring extra-corporeal life support (ECLS) and surgical repair. Blunt cardiac trauma with chamber rupture and septal disruption is a devastating injury. Stopping the hemorrhage and using ECLS gave our patient time to stabilize before definitive management of her traumatic ASD.Babchi (Psorylea corylifolia) is occasionally used by patients as a herbal treatment in conditions such as psoriasis and vitiligo, due to its anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and immune-modulatory properties (Shrestha et al., 2018; Chopra et al., 2013). Due to its psoralen containing furocoumarins, it has the potential to induce photosensitive reactions. We present the first reported case of Babchi-induced phytophotodermatitis in the UK, presenting as sunburn.Hand replantation is a common surgical procedure worldwide. However, this practice is underdeveloped in many resource-constrained countries in part due to a lack of surgical microscopes. We present a patient successfully managed using loupe magnification. A 17-year-old patient presented with an amputated right hand secondary to a chaff cutter. After an 8-hour surgical procedure, the amputated hand was successfully re-attached to the stump using loupes. The patient's functional recovery was satisfactory after two years of follow-up. In conclusion, replantation of extremities can be successfully achieved using loupe magnification. Loupes should be considered an alternative to operating microscopes for replantation of extremities especially in resource-constrained countries.King cobra bites are extremely rare in the western world. These bites can be fatal due to the large volume of the venom injected. We report a case of digital ischaemia from a King cobra bite in a young man who was working in a zoo in Netherlands. He was protected from systemic envenomation as he was wearing a protective glove. However, his right index finger developed subsequent gangrene and he underwent a ray amputation. The current literature on the management of snake bites to hands is reviewed and the role of early decompression discussed.Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disorder with an estrogen correlation. The disease can worsen or present with menopause. Granulosa cell tumors (GCT) are estrogen-secreting ovarian sex-cord stromal tumors with median incidence in the early postmenopausal years. We report a 38-year-old female who presented with a 20 cm pelvic mass and elevated inhibin and underwent a total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for a Stage I GCT. She developed progressive post-operative joint pain and weakness before an eventual diagnosis of seropositive RA. With tumor resection and surgical menopause, the patient experienced an abrupt decline in estrogen levels precipitating the onset of RA symptoms. Prior research identified that hormone fluctuation at menopause correlates with onset of RA. While unfortunately direct estrogen measurements were not obtained perioperatively, this case does support circumstantial evidence correlating RA with menopause and a decline in estrogen, irrespective of age.The MIC method applicable to Gram negative bacilli including Acinetobacter spp. is broth microdilution (BMD). Cost and/or availability issues limit the use of commercial MIC panels in resource limited settings.

To design and implement an in-house breakpoint BMD panel (BBMD) for colistin against Gram negative bacilli.

BBMD panel was prepared in 96-well plate. MIC concentrations of 1, 2, & 4μg/mL for test, and 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2 & 4μg/mL for control strains were selected to accommodate 19 test and 3 quality control strains per plate. Plates were frozen at -80°C until testing. Validation was performed using strains from a previously published study and compared with freshly prepared MIC panel of 16-0.03μg/mL.

Validation showed 100% agreement with the reference method and BBMD was introduced into routine laboratory practice for colistin susceptibility of carbapenem resistant

(CRE),

complex and

. From 2nd July-16th September 2018, a total of 1294 (mean 16.8±5.5 isolates/day) clinical isolates were tested; 1157/1294 were reported (MIC ≤2μg/mL) within 24-h, whereas 133 required resistance confirmation by full-range BMD. Resistance was confirmed for all but 24 isolates. These discrepancies were mostly due to contamination with bacterial genera inherently resistant to colistin.

This BBMD plate is a high through-put and practical method that could reliably be utilized in a routine microbiology laboratory for colistin susceptibility testing of CRE,

complex and

Optimal acetabular component orientation in total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a necessity in achieving a stable implant. Although there has been considerable debate in the literature concerning the safe zone, to date, there has not been any review to determine if these references are consistent with the definition applied by Lewinnek etal. in 1978. Therefore, this article aims to examine the available literature in the PubMed database to determine how often a correct reference to the safe zone as defined by Lewinnek was applied to discussions regarding THA.

A search for literature in the PubMed database was performed for articles from 1978 to 2019. Search criteria included terms 'Lewinnek,' 'safe zone,' and 'total hip arthroplasty.' Exclusions included abstract-only articles, non-English articles, articles unrelated to THA, and those lacking full content.

A review of literature yielded 147 articles for inclusion. Overall, only 11% (17) cited the Lewinnek article correctly. Forty-five percent (66) of articles referenced measurements in the supine position, 18% (26) referenced other positions, and 37% (55) did not specify. Nineteen percent (28) reported measurements of the acetabular cup orthogonal to the anterior pelvic plane, while 73% (108) did not, and 7% (11) did not specify. Twenty-three percent (34) measured from computed tomography scans instead of other methods.

In the discussion of the safe zone regarding THA, only 11% of articles listed are consistent with the definition established by Lewinnek. This warrants further investigation into a consistent application of the term and its implications for THA implant stability and dislocation rates.

Despite decreasing transfusion rates, routine type and screens are frequently used before primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The aims of this study were to characterize transfusion rates and identify any factors that affect the likelihood of transfusion to determine if it is safe to discontinue routine preoperative type and screens at an academic hospital.

A retrospective chart review was performed for all patients who underwent primary THA or TKA in 2019 at an academic institution by a fellowship-trained arthroplasty surgeon. Data on preoperative type and screens, transfusion rates, bleeding disorders, and anticoagulation status were obtained. Patients were considered to have a preoperative type and screen if it was performed within 30 days before surgery.

Overall, 379 patients were included in the study. Of these, 210 underwent primary THA and 169 underwent primary TKA. Four patients received transfusions during their hospitalization for a cumulative transfusion ra judgment. In this paper, the performance of Piezoelectric Micro Power Harvester (PMPH), which converts mechanical vibrations into electrical power via piezoelectric effect is measured based on L18 Orthogonal Array (OA) and Taguchi optimization methods, where 18 experiments are conducted instead of the trial and error approach. Eight control parameters are selected to study the proposed PMPH in the three levels. COMSOL Multiphysics 5.4 simulation software is used to examine all models in frequency and transient response analysis. LC-2 molecular weight MINITAB statistical software is used to analyse the simulation data through Taguchi tools and ANOVA test. The control factor, it is found, has more positive bearing on PMPH performance that has the higher delta function in Taguchi, and higher percentage in ANOVA. This method will hopefully reduce time needed in optimizing PMPH and in maintaining the material resources necessary in the fabrication process let alone cost saving [1].Here, we present the data of human histone interactomes generated and analysed in the research article by Peng et al., 2020 [1]. The histone interactome data provide a comprehensive mapping of human histone/nucleosome interaction networks by using different data sources from the structural, chemical cross-linking, and high-throughput studies. The histone interactions are presented at different levels of granularity in networks, including protein, domain, and residue-levels. All human histone interactome Cytoscape session files are available at https//github.com/Panchenko-Lab/Human-histone-interactome.Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) is widely used as traditional medicine, kitchen spice, and natural dyes in Indonesia. The demand and popularity of this plant is increasing; however, the national supply is still low. Turmeric breeding and crop improvement in Indonesia are needed to boost the national turmeric production. Exploration of turmeric from various areas in Indonesia is a prior step of turmeric breeding. Phenotypic diversity and relationship analysis of an early population can be used as a basis for consideration in plant development and breeding programs. The purpose of this study was to estimate phenotypic diversity and relationship of local turmeric accessions from Indonesia. Raw data analysis was conducted after standardization using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Hierarchical Clustering Analysis (HCA) to determine phenotypic diversity and relationship among the newly collected genetic resources. The data in this article showed broad phenotypic diversity with plant height, number of shoots, number of leaves on main shoot, petiole length, lamina length, lamina width, number of mother rhizome, total rhizome weight, weight per shoot, pseudostem habit, leaf margin, and rhizome habit as distinguishing traits among the collection.
