Preconception care is one of the preventive strategies in maternal and new-born health as recommended by WHO. However, in sub-Saharan Africa there is poor preconception care practices. This study examined knowledge and perceptions of preconception care among health workers and women of reproductive age group in Mzuzu City, Malawi.

A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using a mixed methods approach. Selection of respondents was done through a multistage and purposive sampling techniques respectively. A total of 253 women of reproductive age from nine townships of Mzuzu City responded to the questionnaire and 20 health workers were interviewed.

A total of 136 (54%) respondents had heard of preconception care. About 57.7% (n = 146) demonstrated a good level of knowledge of preconception care while 42.3% (n = 107) had poor knowledge. About 72% (n = 105) of those with good of knowledge of preconception care, lacked awareness on possibilities of talking to a health care provider on intentions of women of reproductive age in Mzuzu City was low. However there was positive perception towards preconception care in both parties. There is an opportunity in existing platforms for implementation of interventions targeting identified predictors for increased knowledge and uptake of preconception care.Avoidance memory is destabilized when recalled concurrently with conflicting information, and must undergo a hippocampus-dependent restabilization process called reconsolidation to persist. We report a case of pulmonary mucormycosis caused by Rhizopus microsporus in a young patient with diabetes but no other apparent risk factors. The diagnosis mainly relied on clinical manifestation, positive pulmonary tissue biopsy, and fungal culture. The patient was successfully treated with posaconazole oral suspension and remains asymptomatic at one-year follow-up.

Human papillomavirus (HPV), primarily genotypes 6 and 11, cause the majority of cases of anogenital warts (AGW). Although benign, AGW are associated with a substantial economic and psychosocial burden. Several vaccines have been developed to prevent HPV. The objective of this study was to describe the epidemiology and healthcare resource utilization of AGW in Morocco, as well as the associated costs of treatment from the public healthcare perspective.

Buyang Huanwu Decoction (BHD) is a classical Chinese Medicine formula empirically used for diabetic nephropathy (DN). However, its therapeutic efficacies and the underlying mechanisms remain obscure. In our study, we aim to evaluate the renoprotective effect of BHD on a streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic nephropathy mouse model and explore the potential underlying mechanism in mouse mesangial cells (MCs) treated with high glucose in vitro, followed by screening the active compounds in BHD.

Mice were received 50mg/kg streptozotocin (STZ) or citrate buffer intraperitoneally for 5 consecutive days. BHD was intragastrically administrated for 12weeks starting from week 4 after the diabetes induction. The quality control and quantitative analysis of BHD were studied by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Renal function was evaluated by urinary albumin excretion (UAE) using ELISA. The mesangial matrix expansion and renal fibrosis were measured using periodic acid-schiff (PAS) staining and Masson Truppressing the Arkadia and restoring renal Smad7. CG could be one of the active compounds in BHD to suppress renal inflammation and fibrosis in diabetic nephropathy.

Naoxintong (NXT), as a traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) preparation, is widely used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, including cardiomyopathy, while its underlying mechanism has not been fully elucidated. The purpose of this study is to investigate the therapeutic effect of NXT on cardiomyopathy and its molecular mechanism in zebrafish model.

The zebrafish cardiomyopathy model was established using terfenadine (TFD) and treated with NXT. The therapeutic effect of NXT on cardiomyopathy was evaluated by measuring the heart rate, the distance between the sinus venosus and bulbus arteriosus (SV-BA), the pericardial area, and the blood flow velocity of zebrafish. Then, the zebrafish hearts were isolated and collected; transcriptome analysis of NXT on cardiomyopathy was investigated. Moreover, the heg1 mutant of zebrafish cod that NXT could restore cardiomyopathy phenotype in zebrafish through HEG1-CCM signaling. Among the seven components identified in NXT, paeoniflorin (PF) and salvianolic acid B (Sal B) were considered to be the main bioactive ones with myocardial protection.

Late stillbirth continues to affect 3-4/1000 pregnancies in high-resource settings, with even higher rates in low-resource settings. Reduced foetal movements are frequently reported by women prior to foetal death, but there remains a poor understanding of the reasons and how to deal with this symptom clinically, particularly during the preterm phase of gestation. We aimed to determine which women are at the greatest odds of stillbirth in relation to the maternal report of foetal movements in late pregnancy (≥ 28 weeks' gestation).

This is an individual participant data meta-analysis of all identified case-control studies of late stillbirth. Studies included in the IPD were two from New Zealand, one from Australia, one from the UK and an internet-based study based out of the USA. There were a total of 851 late stillbirths, and 2257 controls with ongoing pregnancies.
