AbstractSiring success of flowering plants depends on the fates of male gametophytes, which compete for access to stigmas, stylar resources, and ovules. Although rarely considered, pollen may often compete during dispersal, affecting the processes required for export to stigmas pollen pickup, transport, and deposition. We quantified dispersal interference by tracking bee-mediated dispersal of stained Anacamptis morio (Orchidaceae) pollen from individual donor flowers and inferred the affected dispersal mechanisms on the basis of the fit of a process-based model. During individual trials, all recipient flowers were either emasculated, precluding interference with donor pollen, or intact, adding potentially interfering pollen to the pollinator. The presence of competing pollinaria on bees reduced pickup of additional pollinaria, doubled the overall proportion of lost donor pollen, and reduced total pollen export by 27%. Interference specifically increased loss of donor pollen between successive flower visits and variation in deposition among trials, and it likely also reduced pollen contact with stigmas and pollen deposition when contact occurred. Thus, by altering pollen removal, transport, and deposition, male-male interference during pollen dispersal can significantly-and perhaps commonly-limit plant-siring success. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of job stress management training on observance of professional ethics by nurses. This quasi-experimental study was performed on 50 clinical nurses in Shiraz, Iran. Data collection tools included a questionnaire. The research intervention consisted of six two-hour sessions of stress management training. SPSS 21 were used to analyze the data. Data analysis showed that before intervention, the level of professional ethics of 64% of nurses was relatively good, but after intervention, the level of professional ethics of the majority of nurses (94%) was at the desired level. The results showed that the levels of professional ethics after job stress management training has increased significantly compared to before. The results showed that stress management training has led to improving the level of professional ethics of nurses.Trans and gender diverse adults are at increased suicide risk. Optimism protects against suicide across multiple populations. Applying the Interpersonal-Psychological Theory of Suicide (IPTS), we examined both factors among 237 adults recruited via social media and online platforms, 79.3% of whom reported serious suicide ideation. Dispositional optimism predicted suicidal ideation and behaviors (SIB), but did not moderate the relationship between the IPTS components and SIB. After controlling for depressive symptoms, hormone therapy and gender-affirming surgery did not predict SIB. Promoting dispositional optimism within a therapeutic framework may reduce SIB in this vulnerable population. Background and Purpose Trunk control is thought to contribute to upper extremity function. It is unclear whether recovery of trunk control has an impact on the recovery of the upper extremity in people with stroke. This longitudinal study monitored the recovery of trunk control and upper extremity in the first 6 months following stroke. Methods Forty-five participants with stroke were assessed monthly for 6 months following stroke. Trunk control was assessed using the Trunk Impairment Scale (TIS); upper extremity impairment and function were assessed with the Fugl-Meyer (FMA) and Streamlined Wolf Motor Function Test (SWMFT) respectively. The SWMFT included the performance time (SWMFT-Time) and functional ability scale (SWMFT-FAS). The individual growth curve modeling was used to analyze the longitudinal data. Results The recovery curve of TIS, FMA, SWMFT-Time and SWMFT-FAS followed a quadratic trend, with the rate of recovery decreasing from the first to sixth month. As TIS score improved over time, FMA, SWMFT-Time and SWMFT-FAS improved in parallel with the TIS score. TIS at each time point was found to be a significant predictor of FMA, SWMFT-Time and SWMFT-FAS at 6 months post stroke. Conclusion Our work has provided, for the first time, substantial evidence that the pattern of recovery of trunk control is similar to that of the recovery of upper extremity following stroke. In addition, this study provides evidence on which to design a prospective study to evaluate whether improvement in trunk control early post-stroke results in better long-term upper extremity function.COVID-19 has had far-reaching effects on people's lives, with evidence of a disproportionate impact on marginalized groups. Given existing health disparities and research on minority stress, COVID-19 may have uniquely impacted psychological well-being among sexual minorities. In an online survey of adults in the U.S. (N = 1,007) conducted in April 2020, we examined differences between sexual minority and heterosexual participants in psychological well-being, social distancing, computer-mediated communication, and COVID-19-related worry and experiences. check details Sexual minorities reported lower thriving and greater psychological distress, social distancing, computer-mediated communication, and COVID-19 worry and experiences than heterosexual participants. Social distancing and distress were positively correlated among sexual minorities and more frequent computer-mediated communication predicted greater thriving across groups. Path analyses showed sexual minorities' poorer psychological well-being was mediated by their greater COVID-19 worry and social distancing, in particular. These findings shed light on the distinct impact of COVID-19 on sexual minorities. Objective To investigate the efficacy and safety of deoxycholic acid (DOC) for SMF reduction. Methods We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. We searched PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases until June 2020. Efficacy outcomes Clinician-Reported Submental Fat Rating Scale; Patient-Reported Submental Fat Rating Scale; Subject Self-Rating Scale; SMF reduction measured using caliper and resonance magnetic imaging; Early therapeutic success. Safety outcomes Withdrawals due to adverse events (AEs), Rates of AEs, Skin laxity. Results Five studies were included, comprising 1,838 participants. DOC (1 or 2 mg/cm2) had greater improvement in all efficacy measures compared to placebo. No differences were seen between both doses of DOC. Withdrawals due to AEs were low with 1 and 2 mg/cm2 of DOC (6.8% vs. 9.9%, respectively), and there was no difference between the two doses (p = 0.22). AEs were usually associated with the injection site, were predominantly transient, and commonly resolved within the treatment session interval.
