Reductions in parental supervision and increases in peer drug use and peer delinquency were associated with increases in marijuana frequency, alcohol frequency, and alcohol quantity. Transition from employment to retirement may be detrimental to mental health, and associated with suicidal behaviour. This study investigated the association between employment and retirement status and suicidal behaviour among older aged Australians.

This study was based on the '45 and Up Study', a large prospective cohort study of participants from New South Wales (Australia) aged 45years and older (N = 267,153), followed up over the period 2006-2018. The risk of attempted suicide and suicide was compared between categories of employment and retirement status in a series of recurrent event survival analysis models adjusting for identified time variant and invariant confounders.

Defects in formation and function of motile cilia result in primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), a genetically heterogeneous disorder with a well-characterized phenotype but no effective treatment. A number of model systems, ranging from unicellular eukaryotes to mammals, have provided information about the genetics, biochemistry, and structure of motile cilia. However, with remarkable resources available for genetic manipulation and developmental, pathological, and physiological analysis of phenotype, the mouse has risen to the forefront of understanding mammalian motile cilia and modeling PCD. This is evidenced by a large number of relevant mouse lines and an extensive body of genetic and phenotypic data. More recently, application of innovative cell biological techniques to these models has enabled substantial advancement in elucidating the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the biogenesis and function of mammalian motile cilia. In this article, we will review genetic and cell biological studies of motile cilia in mouse models and their contributions to our understanding of motile cilia and PCD pathogenesis.The sun is of great importance for human health. Twenty-nine upland lakes were sampled in 2017-2018; 19 were previously sampled in 2007-2008. The 2017-2018 samples were analyzed for conductivity, pH, DOC, and 18 trace elements. The lakes had low element concentrations; only 7 of 18 trace elements were > 1 µg/L (Fe, Al, Zn, Mn, B, Sr and Ba). Nine elements were assessed for significant decadal changes; four elements decreased (B, Co, Mn, and Sr) and one increased (Pb). Their correlation with conductivity, pH, and DOC and the associated changes in those variables partially explained the observed trends. In general, elements that were correlated with DOC did not decrease, while those that were not correlated decreased between the two periods.
