Ischemia/hypoxia and oxidative stress are considered to play a role in WMLs formation. This study aimed to investigate ischemia-modified albumin (IMA), ferroxidase and thiol/disulfide homeostasis in migraineurs with and without WMLs. PATIENTS AND METHODS Sixty-two migraineurs with WML, 59 migraineurs without WML and 61 controls were included in the study. All participants underwent brain MRI. WMLs was evaluated according to the Fazekas scale. IMA, ferroxidase, total thiol, native thiol and disulfide measurements were carried out in all participants. RESULTS The IMA levels were higher in the migraine groups compared to the control group (p  less then  0.001) and in the WML group compared to non-WML (p  less then  0.001). The total and native thiol levels were higher in the non-WML group compared to the control and WML groups (p  less then  0.001 for both). The disulfide levels were similar between the control and non-WML groups, but they were significantly lower in the WML group compared to the control and non-WML groups. There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of the ferroxidase levels (p = 0.092). The thiol/disulfide, IMA and ferroxidase levels were not significantly correlated with the frequency and duration of attacks, severity of pain and disability due to migraine. CONCLUSION Increased serum IMA levels in migraineurs point to the role of ischemia/hypoxia, and increased total thiol and decreased disulfide levels indicate an oxidant/antioxidant imbalance in migraine. Ischemia/hypoxia may play a role in WMLs formation in migraine. RATIONALE Men who have sex with men (MSM) in China are disproportionately affected by HIV and mental health issues. Although predominately western-based research suggests a minority stress perspective to explain health disparities, how Chinese MSM experience stress related to being a sexual minority and how such experiences affect their health have not been carefully examined. OBJECTIVE This study was a qualitative investigation of how stress related to sexuality (e.g., stigma, discrimination, and oppression) are experienced among MSM in China and how these experiences affect their psychological and behavioral health. METHOD In-depth, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 24 MSM in China. Grounded theory was employed to guide data analysis. RESULTS Six categories emerged, which included A Family-Oriented, Heteronormative Culture, Interpersonal Rejections and Marginalization, Internalization of Stigma, the Psychological Impact of Minority Stress, Impact on HIV-related Behavioral Health, and Coping. A conceptual model was developed, which illustrated relationships among categories and described sources, processes, and impact of minority stress among MSM in China. Cultural, social, and internalized sources of minority stress were shown to have detrimental effects on participants' psychological health and HIV-related behavioral health. Various coping strategies shared the purpose of navigating well-being in one's direct environment and in the larger culture. CONCLUSIONS Findings demonstrate the relevance of minority stress in behavioral health among Chinese MSM as well as the need to conceptualize minority stress within MSM's sociocultural context. HIV prevention efforts may benefit from a contextualized understanding of minority stress and addressing minority stress in a culturally congruent, community-centered fashion. Pervasiveness of technology in the everyday life has caused the world of 'risk' to change tremendously, and this is particularly true for childbearing females. The social construction of pregnancy and childbirth as, arguably, medical events that necessitate medical intervention - ever more so for multifetal pregnancies - makes it almost impossible to avoid the notions of risk that surround the events. Drawing on semi-structured interviews with 41 mothers of twins or triplets, we investigate how understandings of risk, combined with the ideology of good motherhood and information provided by physicians impact perceptions of fetal reduction or termination. We have discussed and theorized empirical findings within the framework of risk, discourses of the responsibilization of females, and the potential 'sacred child' in a context where selective reduction becomes a potentiality. Because long-term prophylaxis (≥100 EDs) can provide substantial patient benefits, FVIII products should demonstrate long-term safety and efficacy. AIM To demonstrate long-term (≥100 EDs) efficacy and safety of BAY 81-8973 in paediatric PTPs. METHODS PTPs aged ≤12 years with severe haemophilia A without inhibitors could continue in the ongoing open-label extension study after completing ≥50 EDs in the LEOPOLD Kids main study. Patients received BAY 81-8973 for prophylaxis (25-50 IU/kg ≥2×/week), bleed treatment, and surgery. Bleeds were documented in electronic patient diaries. Inhibitor development was monitored every 6 months. RESULTS At the August 2017 interim data cutoff, 46 patients (median [range] age at enrolment, 6.0 [1.0-11.0] years) had spent a median (range) of 602.5 (148-1069) EDs and 4.6 (1.0-5.9) years in the main plus extension studies. Median (quartile [Q]1; Q3) annualised bleeding rate for bleeds within 48 h after a prophylaxis infusion and total bleeds was 1.0 (0.2; 1.9) and 2.0 (0.4; 3.6), respectively. Most (>94%) bleeds were mild or moderate; 71.8% were treated with ≤1 infusion. Cardiovascular diseases are one of the important causes of mortality in patients with hemophilia. This study investigated the myocardial functions, blood pressure changes, arterial stiffness, and risk factors associated with cardiovascular diseases in children with hemophilia. MATERIAL AND METHODS In total, 17 children with severe hemophilia A and 23 healthy children were included in the study. Myocardial functions were evaluated using standard and tissue Doppler echocardiography. METHOD A cohort of patients with unilateral TLE and aged-and gendered-matched controls were enrolled in this retrospective study. T1-weighted MPRAGE data for the volume, FLAIR image intensity, DTI and MAP-MRI parameters were performed for bilateral hippocampi of all subjects. The sensitivity, specificity, lateralization ratios and Cohen's d effect sizes of all MR measurements were calculated.
