Retinoblastoma survivors in low- and middle-income countries are exposed to high-intensity treatments that potentially place them at higher risk of early subsequent malignant neoplasms (SMNs).

We followed 714 (403 [56.4%] nonhereditary and 311 [43.5%] hereditary) retinoblastoma survivors diagnosed from August 1987 to December 2016, up to the age of 16years. We quantified risk of SMNs with cumulative incidence (CI) and standardized incidence ratios (SIR) analysis. Multivariate regression Cox model was used to determine the association of treatments and risk of SMNs.

Median follow-up was of 9years (range 0.18-16.9) and 24 survivors (3.36%) developed 25 SMNs (n = 22 hereditary, n = 2 nonhereditary). Compared with FO-2Cl, FO-EH-2Cl is designed by replacing the octyl alkyl chains with branched iso-octyl alkyl chains, leading to an enhanced molecular packing, crystallinity, and redshifted absorption. With a small molecule BSFTR as donor, the device of BSFTRFO-EH-2Cl obtains a better morphology and achieves a higher power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 15.78% with a notable fill factor (FF) of 80.44% than that of the FO-2Cl-based device with a PCE of 15.27% and FF of 78.41%. To the authors' knowledge, the FF of 80.44% is the highest value in ASM-OSCs. These results demonstrate a good example of fine-tuning the molecular structure to achieve suitable active layer morphology with promising performance for ASM-OSCs, which can provide valuable insight into material design for high-efficiency ASM-OSCs.

Whether curative-intent radiotherapy could be safely applied to lung cancer patients with interstitial lung diseases (ILD) remains unclear. We aim to evaluate radiation induced lung toxicities (RILTs) and the efficacy of intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) in these patients. ILD is characterized by inflammation or fibrosis in the interstitial tissue of the lung.

Stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and ILD patients treated with curative-intent IMRT between 2010 and 2019 were retrospectively reviewed. Pre-radiation computed tomography (CT) was scored according to a thin-section CT scoring system for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

A total of 85 of 1261 stage III NSCLC patients were found with ILD. Seventeen (20%) of them developed G3+ (greater than or equal to grade 3) RILTs. The incidence abruptly dropped to 11.1%, 3.8%, and 0% for patients with honeycombing score ≤1, V20 <20%, or both, respectively. Multivariate analysis showed that honeycombing score >1 and V20 ≥20% were independently associated with higher risk of G3+ RILTs. The median overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were 14.0months and 7.4months in the whole group, whereas 26.5months and 10.6months in the low-risk group (patients with honeycombing score <1 and V20 <20%). In the univariate analysis for overall survival, G3+ RILTs were evaluated as risk factors (p=0.026) and low-risk group as the only protective factor (p=0.063). In the multivariate analysis, G3+ RILTs were the only independent risk factor for OS.

In six fresh cadaveric distal radii, seven periarticular locking screws in two rows for each plate were inserted according to the measured length using a depth gauge and then replaced with another that was 1 and 2 mm longer, respectively. The actual protruded length of each screw was determined using computed tomography (CT) images. The accuracy of US and DTV measurements was determined using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), as both measurements were compared with CT measurements. The ICC of US and DTV was 0.96 and 0.75, respectively, for all screws. After excluding the data for proximal-row screws, the ICC of US remained unchanged at 0.96, and that of DTV improved to 0.86. The ICC of US was significantly higher than that of DTV (p  less then  0.01). US had a 100% detection rate for screw protrusion of more than 1.0 mm. US examination showed excellent consistency with CT measurements and its accuracy was not affected by screw location. US might thus be a practical tool for detecting dorsal cortex screw penetration during volar distal radius plating.

Protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) is a devastating complication of the Fontan circulation. Although orthotopic heart transplantation (HTx) typically results in resolution of PLE symptoms, isolated cases of PLE relapse have been described after HTx.

Patients with Fontan-related PLE who had undergone HTx at participating centers and experienced relapse of PLE during follow-up were retrospectively identified. Available data related to pre- and post-HTx characteristics and PLE events were collected.

Eight patients from four different centers were identified. Median time from Fontan procedure to the development of PLE was 8years, and median age at HTx was 17years (range 7.7-21). In all patients, PLE resolved at a median time of 1month after HTx (0.3-5). PLE recurrences occurred at a median time of 7.5months after HTx (2-132). Each occurrence was associated with one or more significant clinical events; most commonly cellular- or antibody-mediated rejection; and less commonly graft dysfunction, infection, thrombosis, and posttransplant lymphoproliferative disease. PLE recurrences resolved after the successful treatment of the concomitant event, after a median time of 2months in seven cases, while persisted and recurred in one patient in association with atypical mycobacterium infection and subsequent PTLD onset and relapses. Six patients were alive during follow-up at a median time of 4years (1.3-22.5) after HTx.

Early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC) (<50 years) incidence has increased in Australia and worldwide. However, the diagnosis of EOCRC is often delayed. Recent research has discovered some differences from later-onset colorectal cancer (LOCRC) (>50 years). An awareness of the unique features of EOCRC is crucial to reduce time from symptom onset to diagnosis.

Here, we report the synthesis of new [DFOB]- -based ILs paired with triethylmethylphosphonium [P1222 ]+ , and diethylisobutylmethylphosphonium [P122i4 ]+ . We also report the first OIPCs containing the [DFOB]- anion, formed by combination with the 1-ethyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium [C2 mpyr]+ cation, and the triethylmethylammonium [N1222 ]+ cation. The traditional synthetic route using halide starting materials has been successfully replaced by a halide-free tosylate-based synthetic route that is advantageous for a purer, halide free product.
