BACKGROUND & AIMS Alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) comprises different liver disorders which impose a health care issue. ALD and particularly alcoholic steatohepatitis, an acute inflammatory condition, cause a substantial morbidity and mortality as effective treatment options remain elusive. Inflammation in ALD is fuelled by macrophages (Kupffer cells [KCs]) which are activated by intestinal pathogen associated molecular patterns, eg lipopolysaccharide (LPS), disseminated beyond a defective intestinal barrier. We hypothesized that the immunomodulator dimethyl-fumarate (DMF), which is approved for the treatment of human inflammatory conditions such as multiple sclerosis or psoriasis, ameliorates the course of experimental ALD. METHODS Dimethyl-fumarate or vehicle was orally administered to wild-type mice receiving a Lieber-DeCarli diet containing 5% ethanol for 15 days. Liver injury, steatosis and inflammation were evaluated by histology, biochemical- and immunoassays. Moreover, we investigated a direct immnal published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd.Robotic Endovascular Intervention System (REIS) has been a focused and interesting area in robot-assisted tele-surgery. While, haptic feedback is the latest advancing study in interventional robots. Few systems with haptic feedback are commercialized due to accuracy, instantaneity and the lack of surgeon previous experience on interventional surgery. click here In this paper, a novel haptic force feedback master hand controller system is proposed to solve the problems. A SEA (Series Elastic Actuators)-based mechanism is designed to provide feedback force with high force/torque fidelity, low impedance and inertia. Also, the handle of the mechanism is similar to the catheter, making the surgeon operate the tele-surgery with his experience. The control model of the system is built and PID algorithms are explored to realize the motion control. PID parameters are optimized for fast response time and stability. The experiments and results demonstrate that the master hand controller system has maximum feedback force relative error of 3%, instantaneity of 0.89 seconds and tracking performance of 9 Hz frequency 3 dB bandwidth. Lately acne has considered an IGF-1 mediated disease. Recent research demonstrated that IGF-1 levels decrease after three months of isotretinoin. The purpose of our study is evaluating the influence of acne treatments on IGF-1 serum levels. 46 subjects with acne vulgaris aged 14-30 years were subdivided into 3 groups according to their severity of acne and treated following the European Dermatology forum guidelines. IGF-1 was measured in patients before and after the treatment and then compared to the IGF-1 of a healthy population of the same age. IGF-1 resulted higher in patients than in controls but there was not a statistically significant variation after treatment. To the best of our knowledge this is the first study evaluating the influence of topical and systemic acne treatment on IGF-1 serum levels. In contrast with the literature our results suggest that common therapies for acne are not able to significantly modify IGF-1serum levels. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. METHODS The MR QC database was built with Microsoft Access 2010 and published on a Microsoft Sharepoint website owned and maintained by the authors' institution. Authorized users can access the database remotely with mainstream web browsers on any institutional computers. QC technologists were granted access to add, review, and print daily and weekly QC records. Qualified medical physicists (QMPs) were granted additional access to edit, review, and approve existing QC records and to change tolerance limits. A macro was utilized to conduct an automatic weekly review of QC status and to email the results to a QMP. This web-based QC database was implemented on 17 clinical MRIs at the authors' institution. Weekly ACR QC findings within one year before and after implementation were compared. RESULTS We analyzed 158 QC issues detected by thnal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics published by Wiley Periodicals, Inc. on behalf of American Association of Physicists in Medicine.Human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) facilitates cellular entry of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and SARS-CoV-2 as their common receptor. During infection, ACE2-expressing tissues become direct targets, resulting in serious pathological changes and progressive multiple organ failure or even death in severe cases. However, as an essential component of renin-angiotensin system (RAS), ACE2 confers protective effects in physiological circumstance, including maintaining cardiovascular homeostasis, fluid, and electrolyte balance. The absence of protective role of ACE2 leads to dysregulated RAS and thus acute changes under multiple pathological scenarios including SARS. This potentially shared mechanism may also be the molecular explanation for pathogenesis driven by SARS-CoV-2. We reasonably speculate several potential directions of clinical management including host-directed therapies aiming to restore dysregulated RAS caused by ACE2 deficiency. Enriched knowledge of ACE2 learned from SARS and COVID-19 outbreaks can provide, despite their inherent tragedy, informative clues for emerging pandemic preparedness. © 2020 Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology.Despite the importance of swine intestinal health, there are no easy-to-use and cost-efficient methods to evaluate it under field conditions for sows. To provide some indication about intestinal health, pH of faeces could be used but reference values for the currently high-performing commercial sow breeds are missing. In response, faecal pH of healthy sows from three different herds (herd A 230 sows, herd B 350 sows, herd C 500 sows) was measured throughout the reproductive cycle. Within each herd, 10 sows were selected and rectal faeces samples were collected at different time points during the reproductive cycle day 90 of gestation, day 1, 7, 14 and 21 of lactation, 7 days post-weaning and day 30 of the next gestation. In addition, data on sow body condition (back fat), feed composition and coarseness of the feed were collected. For individual pH measurements, the pH ranged from 6.30 to 7.93. However, for all herds together, the average faecal pH value of the sows throughout the reproductive cycle ranged from 6.
