Seats
Most 3 wheel double buggies start as single pushchairs. However, some models can be converted to accommodate the second seat using adapters. You'll also see that some models allow you to add a ride-on board for older children who would like to walk but require a little help.
If you're looking for a lightweight option that is ideal for city streets, check out the Joie Evalite Duo. It's easy to maneuver and comes with a large basket that is full of storage. It can accommodate twins from at birth and accepts two car seats, or a carrycot that has a seat. However, the seats have to be facing forwards, and there's no room for a shopping bag under which is why you'll need a sidepack to do that.
If you're looking to take off-road trips then the Mountain Buggy Duet is a good choice. It's a side-by-side with the smallest footprint of any double buggy on the market. This allows it to squeeze through doors that are narrow and on public transport, and enables you to climb up and down kerbs with no trouble. The adjustable handlebar has an additional handbrake for safety and security.
The UPPAbaby Vista 2 double is a lightweight option that is suitable for twins or a baby and toddler. The seats have multi-position reclining and UPF 50+ sunshades, and the canopy can be adjusted to keep the sun out of your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can even be transformed into a triple using the addition of UPPAbaby's "PiggyBack board for older and mobile children.
The iCandy Orange double buggies are among the most well-known on the market. This is due to their superb comfort. It is a true all-terrain pushchair with soft suspension to make smooth work of bumpy surfaces. It can accommodate a massive 30 seating configurations, and comes with a built-in ride-on board for older children who prefer walking plus a 'cinema seating' mode that raises the back seat for better visibility.
The phil&teds dots are brilliant single buggys that can be easily modified to accommodate two (or three!) different configurations. This is especially useful when you have a child in a car seat, since the frame can be equipped with a wedgie for optimum lie-flat positioning, or car seat adapters to a wider range of brands.
Suspension
The quality of the suspension in a triple buggy is crucial to how it will be easy for you and your baby to push. It is essential to have a smooth ride because babies can feel every bump in the road. This is especially relevant if you drive on rough terrain, such as grass or roads that are not paved. Certain models also have locking front wheels to assist with maneuvering and getting over obstacles like curbs.
Some models come with air-filled tyres, which give you a great all-terrain ride, but can be prone to punctures therefore, make sure you have spares in the trunk. Other models use gel or foam tyres, which are designed to take the bumps and are less prone to punctures however, you may find them a little stiff and uncomfortable for your child's back should you decide to run.
3 wheeler pushchairs -by-side buggy is the ideal buggy for city walks. It has a brilliant suspension system that lets you easily and comfortably navigate any terrain. You can also upgrade the duet using our dual kit in order to take 2 children - all within the same compact footprint!
MFM reviewer Kath put the Urban Glide 2 through its tests with her newborn and 3 years old children, and discovered that it coped really well on tricky terrain: "it navigated effortlessly over grass and bumpy pavements, cobbles and dirt tracks with ease and was easy to maneuver around corners and get up and down kerbs. The 16" rear wheels, coupled with the lockable swivel wheel on the front, make it an extremely stable jogging experience. The Urban Glide 2 has a variety of features, like an enormous seat unit that comes with a padded cover and hood that offers 50+ UV protection and rechargeable and easy-to use visibility lights.
Folding
A 3-wheel double buggy can fold very well to store it. There are models that fold flat, stand up (as though they were in a pushchair) and those that open to reveal a more umbrella-style folding, with a hand-operated break. In general, the more wheels a buggy comes with the more able it will be to maneuver over rough terrain. This is especially true if the wheels are larger than typical size. You will have more stability, and it will be less likely that you need to flip or tip your child.
A popular choice is the iCandy Wave, which can be used as early as birth with an infant car seat and transforms into a side-by-side double buggy once your child is old enough for them to sit beside each other. It's a light-feeling option, which makes it easy to push and comes with extra features like bumper bars and a raincover.
Another option is the phil&teds sport, which is future proof as it's brilliant as a single buggy from day one and then adjusts to accommodate 2 (or even 3!) All of this is contained in its small footprint. It has a clever three-wheel design with a sling for better manoeuvrability and stability.
This is one of the most comfortable double buggies for jogging with your children. It features a lockable front wheel which will help you maintain control over hills or off-road terrain. It also has a generously-sized undercarriage basket, an adjustable handlebar, and a soft suspension for comfortable riding.
It's a light and compact model that can be folded with one hand and is perfect for traveling. It is compatible with many infant car seats and has a handy undercarriage basket to store shopping. It's a bit costly however, it does have several notable features, like its one-click folding and many extras, like bumper bars or raincovers.
Stores
Many are awed by the capacity of storage offered by a triple-wheeled buggy. Some models like the Roma Atlas offer a generously-sized basket as well as two handy zip pockets on the hood to keep your phone and keys in reach. It is also designed to be able to handle a little rough terrain making it a good option for family walks or all-terrain hikes.
Other models like the UPPAbaby Vista 2 offer plenty of space and the flexibility to carry twins or even a toddler and a baby (it takes their 'PiggyBack' boards to make this possible). It's the most compact side-by-side double on the market and it has some impressive technology, including game-changing LED visibility lights that change on each side of the buggy frame to ensure safety in dim lighting conditions.
The Joie Evalite Duo, a stroller that is light enough to accommodate twins from birth and is world-facing with a lie-flat position, is something different. The clever frame can expand to allow for an additional seat, but it weighs just 11kg. This makes it simple to lift and maneuver. It can be used with an infant car seat, a carrycot, or both. This allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds.
