The MOF expression level is significantly reduced in many cancers, however the biological function of MOF and its underlying mechanism are still elusive in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Estrogen receptor α (ERα) has been considered as a tumor suppressor in HCC. Here, we demonstrated that MOF expression is significantly reduced in HCC samples, and is positively correlated with that of ERα. MOF interacts with ERα, and participates in acetylation of ERα at K266, K268, K299, thereby inhibiting ERα ubiquitination to maintain the stability of ERα. In addition, MOF participates in the upregulation of ERα-mediated transactivation. Depletion of MOF significantly promotes cell growth, migration, and invasion in HCC cell lines. Taken together, our results provide new insights to understand the mechanism underlying the modulation function of MOF on ERα action in HCC, suggesting that MOF might be a potential therapeutic target for HCC.

To present an effective and easily applicable method for tracheoesophageal puncture (TEP) closure by using a localized annular flap instead of bulky and distant flaps.

The medical records of patients who underwent TEP closure surgery with the annular mucosal flap technique between July 2012 and August 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Fistula size, indication for closure, duration of surgery, radiotherapy status, and surgery results were analyzed.

We have used our technique in nine patients. No postoperative bleeding, wound infection, esophageal stenosis, and tracheostoma stenosis occurred. In all these patients except one, successful closure was achieved. None of the patients had a recurrence of the TEP.

The patient's oral feeding at the sixth hour after procedure without using a nasogastric tube makes the technique preferable as a priority.This study investigated the integrative effects of parents' perceptions of child difficultness and parental emotion dysregulation on emotion-related parenting among a group of Chinese parents of school-age children. One hundred and fifty parent-child dyads (121 biological mothers and 29 biological fathers as primary caregivers; Mage = 39.22 years) from urban Beijing, China participated in the study. Parents reported on their own emotion dysregulation and their children's difficultness, as well as their emotion socialization practices. Children (Mage = 8.54 years; ranged from 6 to 12 years) reported on their parents' use of psychological control strategies. Main and interactive effects were tested using path analysis. Results indicated that parents' perceived child difficultness was negatively associated with supportive reactions to children's expression of negative emotions, and parental emotion dysregulation was positively associated with unsupportive reactions. When parents perceived their children to be difficult and also reported emotion regulation difficulties of their own, they showed the highest levels of psychological control (child reports). These findings suggest differential effects of parent cognition and emotion on supportive and unsupportive reactions to children's negative emotions. Both cognition and emotion play important roles in relation to parents' use of psychological control.

This study assessed the Streptococcus pneumoniae colonisation rate and susceptibility to antibiotics among preschool children in rural Vietnam.

Nasopharyngeal samples were collected from 546 preschool children aged 6-59months living in 460 households in the rural BaVi District of Hanoi and their main caregivers completed questionnaires. The samples were cultured, and the Streptococcus pneumoniae colonisation rate and antibiotic susceptibility were investigated. Resistance data from this 2014 study were compared with studies in 1999 and 2007, to identify 15-year trends, together with clinical isolates from a national surveillance system of 16 Vietnamese hospital laboratories established in 2013.

We found that 221/546 (40%) of the cultures were positive for Streptococcus pneumoniae. The susceptibility rates were trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole (5%), erythromycin (8%), ciprofloxacin (12%), benzyl-penicillin (35%), tetracycline (49%), cefotaxime (55%), moxifloxacin (99%) and vancomycin (99%). All the susceptibility rates were lower in 2014 than 1999 and 2007, except tetracycline. Multi-drug resistance was 80% in 2014, compared to 60% in 2007 and 31% in 1999. Antibiotics was reported used by 191 (35%) within one month, mainly cephalosporins 86 (45%), amoxycillin/ampicillin 69 (36%) and macrolides 30 (16%).

The Versius surgical system, from CMR Surgical, is the first UK-based robotic platform to become commercially available. This is a prospective series in accordance with the IDEAL development framework for surgical innovation reporting the clinical implementation and initial experience using this robotic platform.

Patients with colorectal cancer were included. Exclusion criteria included T4 tumours, ultra-low rectal cancer and severe comorbidity (American Society of Anesthesiologists grade ≥ 3). Institutional ethical approval was obtained, and patients were counselled preoperatively with informed consent. Patients underwent colorectal resection using the Versius surgical system. Procedures were anticipated as hybrid operations (laparoscopic/robotic) consistent with a proof of concept/technical feasibility study.

Main outcome measures included operative time, complication rates and pathological results. Thirty-two patients (15 men) underwent colorectal cancer resections. The mean age was 68years (27-85years). Estimated blood loss was 150ml; range <100to <500ml. For right hemicolectomy, the average operative time was 221min (183-323min). The average console time was 111min (64-213min). For robotic anterior resection, the total operative time was on average 319min (222-408min) with an average console time of 204min (85-242min). Eight patients experienced Grade II morbidities (22%) with no serious morbidities and no mortalities. Mean return to bowel function was 2.9days (1-6days). The average length of stay was 5.3days with a median of 4days (2-20days). All resections were R0 with an average lymph node yield of 20 nodes (8-46 nodes).

There is an established role of bacterial microflora in acute infections. However, we proposed that biofilm-forming organisms might be present in the microflora of anal fistula of prolonged duration. This aspect has rarely been studied earlier. Therefore, the study describes the microbiology of anal fistula and the biofilm-forming capacity of the isolated organisms. A total of 30 patients were included in the study as per the criteria. Anal fistula tissue sample, tissue fluid, and blood samples were collected from each individual. The collected specimens were detected for the presence of aerobic and anaerobic microflora through standard microbiological method and polymerase chain reaction. Furthermore, the role of biofilm formation by microtitre plate assay and serum matrix metalloproteinases-9 was also studied. The result showed significant predominance of gut-derived microflora with high-to-moderate biofilm-producing ability in anal fistulas of prolonged duration. The burden associated with this expanded healthcare function, however, is significant (fatigue, emotional distress and exhaustion). The aim of this article was to present French sociologist Jacques Donzelot's theoretical perspective on governing through the family. According to Donzelot, such a government is exercised through various power techniques, including the instrumentalization of the family role and the transfer to families of the responsibility for health care. This author describes how healthcare institutions call on the family to perform hospital and biomedical practices within the home. A spin-off of neoliberalism, the practices of governing through families specifically target women, who are considered to be the pillar of the family. Donzelot's perspective is very relevant to nursing, but is still rarely mobilized in the discipline. His critical perspective allows for a re-reading of relations of power and mechanisms of surveillance and control of families, issues that are often overlooked in nursing research.
