To determine whether a prototypical compressed-sensing volume-interpolated breath-hold (csVIBE) provides diagnostic value in detecting rectosigmoid infiltration in deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE).

csVIBE was employed in 151 women undergoing pelvic magnetic resonance imaging, of whom 43 had undergone surgery for suspected endometriosis. The accuracy of T2-weighted BLADE and BLADE/csVIBE, additional diagnostic value of csVIBE, and diagnostic confidence were rated by two readers. Additionally, the presence of the "mushroom cap sign" was assessed on BLADE and csVIBE.

The diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of BLADE and BLADE/csVIBE were not significantly different between Readers A and B. For both readers, the confidence in the diagnosis increased with csVIBE, but this increase in the odds ratio was not significant for both readers. Both readers preferred csVIBE over BLADE with regard to detection of the "mushroom cap sign."

csVIBE may provide a diagnostic benefit for surgical strategy selection through better delineation of the "mushroom cap sign."

Wilms' tumor is the most common pediatric renal tumor. Almost half of all cases have involvement of the inferior vena cava, which must be addressed at the time of surgical excision. Further extension into the right atrium may pose an immediate vital risk and necessitates special operative techniques that employ cardiopulmonary bypass.

We report the case of a child with a left Wilms' tumor with inferior caval and right atrial involvement, which led to significant hemodynamic compromise and urgent surgery. A left nephrectomy and cavoatrial thrombectomy were performed via a sterno-laparotomy. Our strategy employed moderate hypothermic circulatory arrest at 26°C and antegrade cerebral perfusion in order to improve visualization and ensure complete thrombectomy and protection of the abdominal organs.

This case emphasizes the advantages of moderate hypothermic circulatory arrest compared to deep hypothermic circulatory arrest and normothemic cardiopulmonary bypass.

Evasion from cell death occurs in prostate cancer (PCa). We verified whether serum levels of cell death markers can have diagnostic value in PCa.

A total of 233 men scheduled for prostate biopsy [prostate specific antigen (PSA) level 2-10 ng/ml] were enrolled. Serum nucleosomes, nucleosomes containing the H3 histone (H3), high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), and soluble receptor for advanced glycation end products (sRAGE) were analyzed by enzyme immunoassays.

There were no differences (p>0.05) in nucleosomes, H3, and sRAGE levels between patients with and without PCa or clinically significant PCa (csPCa). HMGB1 had lower levels in PCa patients (p=0.023) and was a predictor of PCa (p=0.047), but not of csPCa (p=0.180).

In patients with critical PSA levels between 2-10 ng/ml, HMGB1 had some diagnostic value for overall PCa detection, but it was not predictive of csPCa. Nucleosomes, H3 and sRAGE did not discriminate between PCa or csPCa and controls.

Surgical treatment for spinal deformity aims to correct malformation, release the nerves, and reconstruct spinal stability. To explore and develop a new improved spinal correction system (ISCS) for clinical application, we studied the stability and biomechanical characteristics of the ISCS through finite element analysis and comparison of the ISCS with the pedicle screw and rod system (PSRS).

Using L1-L3 CT image data of a normal adult male lumbar spine for establishment of L1-L3 finite element model, we established posterior internal fixation models for a comparative finite element analysis of PSRS and ISCS. An axial load of 500 N and a moment of 10 N•m were applied to L1 to simulate flexion, extension, lateral bending, and axial rotation. Stress distribution characteristics, load sharing, strain bending stiffness and strain angle change of the models were measured.

In flection and extension directions, the maximum stress of the L2 vertebral body and the L1/2 and L2/3 discs in PSRS was less than that ot of scoliosis and, therefore, warrants further clinical studies in patients with other spinal deformities.

To date, multiple different surgical techniques have been established for hallux valgus surgery, with each technique having its unique advantages and limitations. The open distal chevron osteotomy is widely accepted, but increasing patient demands have led several minimally invasive (MIS) techniques to be described in recent years. PluronicF68 The aim of this study was to compare outcomes after minimally invasive (MIS) distal chevron osteotomy and the minimally invasive Reverdin-Isham method.

We assessed clinical and radiographic outcomes after MIS chevron osteotomy in 57 feet of 49 consecutive patients with a mean follow-up of 58.9 (range=39.0-85.4) months. Outcomes after MIS Reverdin-Isham osteotomy were analyzed by means of a systematic literature review with a minimum follow-up of 6 months.

Radiographic outcomes were significantly better in the MIS chevron cohort for intermetatarsal angle (p<0.001), hallux valgus angle and distal metacarpal articular angle (p<0.05). Concerning clinical outcomes, both methods provided comparable improvement.

MIS distal chevron osteotomy in mild to moderate hallux valgus deformity correction results in superior radiographic outcomes compared to the MIS Reverdin-Isham osteotomy. Sufficient correction of IMA cannot be achieved with the MIS Reverdin-Isham osteotomy.
