Lumbar disc prostheses have been used increasingly in recent years. The successful design of lumbar disc prostheses depends on accurate morphometric parameters. However, the morphologic dimensions of lumbar endplate area have not been investigated in Chinese population.A total of 1800 lumbar endplates were retrospectively accessed in 150 Chinese adults. Eighteen parameters of each lumbar segment were measured by three-dimensional computed tomography reconstructions from T12/L1 to L5/S1. These obtained parameters were compared between genders, bilateral sides, vertebral segments, and different populations.Endplate length and width increased in general, and there was a significant decrease for length/width ratio from T12 to S1 (P = .03). The average concavity depth of the lower lumbar endplate (2.09 ± 0.93 mm) was usually larger than that of the upper lumbar endplate (1.61 ± 0.74 mm) (P = .02). The percentage of the most concave point of the upper and lower lumbar endplate was 50.01 ± 10.76% and 56.41 ± 9.93%s displayed significant difference between genders. The morphometric parameters of different populations also showed differences. In conclusion, there is a morphologic discrepancy in dimensions of lumbar endplate regarding genders, vertebral segments, and different populations. It is essential to design the lumbar disc prosthesis suited for Chinese patients specially, for which the morphometric parameters in our study can be utilized.
We conducted this retrospective analysis to assess whether oral antiplatelet drugs (APDs) during radiotherapy increase bleeding risk.Patients who underwent radiotherapy for esophageal cancer (EC) in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University from January 2015 to December 2019 were screened. After the differences in clinical parameters were eliminated by a propensity-score matched (PSM) analysis at a 11 ratio, the thrombocytopenia, consumption of platelet-increasing drugs, suspension of radiotherapy, and bleeding in patients taking APDs were compared with those in the control group.A total of 986 patients were included in the original dataset. Of these, 34 patients took APDs during radiotherapy. After matching, the APD and control groups each retained 31 patients. There was no significant difference in platelet concentrations between the two groups before radiotherapy (P = .524). The lowest platelet concentration during radiotherapy in the APD group was significantly lower (P = .033). The consumptiopplication of platelet-increasing drugs can avoid the increased risk of bleeding and the reduced efficacy of radiotherapy.
Diabetic neurogenic bladder (DNB) is one of the common complications of diabetes mellitus, which has a high prevalence rate. Some research suggested that acupuncture can improve the clinical symptoms of diabetic neurogenic bladder patients, but there is no systematic review or meta-analysis to assess this therapy. Therefore, this study aims to explore the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture for patients with DNB.
In this study, we will search for electronic databases including the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE,China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wan-Fang, and Baidu Scholar Database from inception to December 2020. buy MPTP We will select randomized controlled trials that have been published in English or Chinese related to acupuncture for DNB. Selection of study, extraction of data, and assessment of study quality will be performed independently by 2 researchers, and we will use Revman 5.3 software which is provided by Cochrane assistance network, to perform the data analysis.
This study will provide evidence of the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture for DNB.
This study will clarify whether acupuncture is an effective treatment for DNB, and will also provide a reference for clinical practice and guidelines development.

Intravenous pyogenic granuloma (IVPG) is a special type of pyogenic granuloma, and its preoperative diagnosis is difficult. We report a rare case of IVPG that develops in the lumen of the internal jugular vein (IJV). Here, we analyze the imaging characteristics of present case and summarize the imaging characteristics of previous reported cases.
A 44-year-old man who presented with a growth in the IJV without any symptoms.
A diagnosis of IVPG was made, based on the pathological examination after surgery.
The patient underwent surgery to excise the vein segment containing the neoplasm.
The patient did not present with any complications in the postoperative follow-up period.
For clinician, IVPG's preoperative diagnosis is difficult. Although histopathology remains the gold standard for diagnosis, the combination of multiple types of imaging examinations is necessary to rule out the differential diagnoses of IVPG.

Piribedil is an orally active dopamine agonist that has been widely used for Parkinson disease (PD), with its partial D2/D3 agonistic functions and alpha2-adrenoreceptor antagonistic effects, piribedil has been proved to be efficacious in the relief of motor symptoms in PD, while it can also lead to impulse control disorders such as pathological gambling due to its dopamine agonistic effects.
A 28-year-old Chinese female patient with Parkinson disease and a history of taking piribedil finally developed pathological gambling and depressive episode.
After a careful clinical observation and evaluation, the patient met the criteria of severe depressive episode and pathological gambling due to antiparkinson therapy.
We discontinued piribedil and picked bupropion, a dopamine reuptake inhibitor, to alleviate the depressive symptom. Benzhexol and selegiline were also added for the control of motor fluctuations.
After 3 weeks' treatment, the patient's depressive mood was significantly alleviated and her recurring PD symptoms were also relieved.
