Trans-resveratrol (TRA) possesses a variety of pharmacological activities, making important to explore simple, inexpensive, and reliable analytical methods for identification and quantification of it. We report on the synergistic effects originated from layer-by-layer films of graphene (Gr)-gold nanoparticles (Au) and molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for electrochemical detection of TRA. To construct the TRA electrochemical sensor (GCE|Gr-Au/MIPs), the films of Gr-Au, MIPs were step by step formed onto GCE via in-situ and controllable electrodeposition and polymerization processes. The compositions, morphologies, and electrochemical properties of obtained films were investigated by various methods. Under the optimized experimental conditions, the electrochemical sensor showed superior performance toward selective and sensitive determination of TRA with K3[Fe(CN)6] as electrochemical signal probe. As methyl jasmonate (MeJA) is known to act on various fruit qualities, we investigated whether it acts via the LOX pathway in cold-stored 'Nanguo' pears. MeJA treatment increased the content of volatile esters and unsaturated fatty acids and the activities of alcohol acyltransferase, alcohol dehydrogenase, and LOX. It also up-regulated the expression of key genes (PuAAT, PuADH3, PuADH5, PuADH9, PuLOX1, and PuLOX3) in the LOX pathway and that of transcription factors (PuMYB21-like, PuMYB108-like, PuWRKY61, PuWRKY72, and PuWRKY31), whose genes were differentially expressed in preliminary transcriptome analysis. Therefore, considering its effects on LOX pathway-related genes and transcription factors, MeJA may be useful in preventing cold-storage-induced decline in ester biosynthesis, aroma, and consequently the quality of cold-stored 'Nanguo' pears.

The present study was designed to estimate the rate of death anxiety and the factors influencing its occurrence in cancer patients using a systematic review and meta-analysis approach.

Five academic databases, including Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, Embase, and ProQuest, were searched systematically from inception until the end of January 2020. Observational studies that reported mean score of death anxiety in cancer patients, regardless of language restriction, were eligible to be included. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to assess the methodological quality of included studies. A meta-analysis was performed using a random effect model with the DerSimonian and Laird weighted method. Publication bias was assessed using the funnel plot and Begg's and Egger's tests.

In 366 older oncology patients, PF and CF were assessed using the Physical Component Summary (PCS) of the SF-12 and Attentional Function Index, respectively. Latent profile analysis was used to identify subgroups of older patients with distinct PF/CF profiles.

Three distinct PF/CF profiles were identified (i.e., Very Low PF+Moderate CF (15.6%); Low PF+Low CF (39.3%), Normal PF+Normal CF (45.1%)). Compared to the both Normal class, patients in the other two classes had a lower functional status, a worse comorbidity profile, and were less likely to exercise on a regular basis. Compared to the Both Normal class, patients in the Both Low class were less likely to be married/partnered, more likely to live alone, less likely to be employed, and more likely to report depression and back pain. Compared to the other two classes, patients in the Both Low class had a lower annual household income and were receiving chemotherapy with a worse toxicity profile.

The framework models the excitation, propagation and scattering of guided waves from welds by respectively employing a hybrid model that couples a 3D FEM model of a piezoelectric transducer with a 2D SAFE model of the rail; a 2D SAFE model of the rail; and another hybrid method which couples a 3D FEM model of the arbitrary discontinuity (weld) with two SAFE models of the rail to represent the semi-infinite incoming and outgoing waveguides. Optimal damping parameters for hysteretic and viscous damping, respectively, are determined using a model updating procedure to approximate attenuation in the rail. Good agreement between the experimental measurement and simulation is demonstrated, even for weld reflections originating over 640 m from the transducer location.
