Also, these structures can be used as natural antioxidants to minimize the diseases related to oxidative stress. In this work, the binding affinity of 32 natural and synthetic halogenated bisphenols were investigated on thyroid hormone receptor-β (THR-β) using the molecular docking, MM/GBSA, molecular dynamics, and a rigorous three-layer ONIOM ((M06-2X/6-31G*PM6AMBER) calculation. The desirable potency is observed for binding of selected compounds to THR-β. The Met313, Asn331, and His435 are the main interacting residues in the binding cavity which involved in the hydrogen and halogen bond interactions with the ligands. The most potent candidate on binding to the active site of THR-β is presented with respect to the results of mentioned calculations. Moreover, the antioxidant activity of compounds has been investigated using the quantum mechanical calculations. The electrostatic potential surfaces illustrate well the antioxidant capacity of compounds. The halogen substituents increase the antioxidant activity of the most stable conformers. The position and number of OH groups are crucial factors which affect the activity, whereas two adjacent hydroxyl groups enhance the antioxidant activity of selected compounds.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. This study aims to use an in silico method to identify genetic variants in the melanoma susceptibility gene. The COSMIC database was queried for genes and cross-referenced with three environment-gene interaction databases (EGP, SeattleSNPs and CTD) to identify shared genes. The majority of approved skin melanoma drugs were found to act on the protein serine/threonine-protein kinase (B-RAF) encoded by the BRAF gene, which was also present in all three referenced databases. Comprehensive computational analysis was performed to predict deleterious genetic variants associated with skin melanoma, and the nsSNPs G469V and G469E were prioritized based on their predicted deleterious effects. Molecular dynamic simulation analysis of the B-RAF protein mutants G469V and G469E reveals that variations in the amino acid conformation at the drug binding site result in inconsistency in drug interaction. Additionally, this analysis showed that the G469V and G469E mutants have lower binding energy for dabrafenib than the wild type. The population with the highest frequency of each deleterious and pathogenic variant has been determined. The study's findings would support the development of more effective treatment strategies for skin melanoma. Communicated by Ramaswamy H. A total of 672 fertilized eggs were assigned to one of eight experimental groups having three replicates with 28 eggs as follows (1) negative control (not injected); (2) positive control (injected with 0.2 mL deionized water); (3) vitamin C at 1 mg; (4) vitamin C at 3 mg; (5) vitamin C at 6 mg; (6) vitamin E at 0.5 IU; (7) vitamin E at 0.75 IU; and (8) vitamin E at 1.0 IU. At the end of incubation, the number of chicks hatched, and their individual body weight were recorded. Among hatched birds, a total of 240 mixed chicks were randomly selected (30 subject per group equally shared in three pen floors). Chicks were vaccinated against Avian Influenza, Gumboro, Bronchitis, and Newcastle disease virus. Performance parameters were weekly evaluated until 42 days of age. At days 28 and 42, broiler serum and spleen and Bursa of Fabricius relative weight were assessed as well as on day 42 the carcass traits. From results, in ovo injection with 3 mg of vitamin C or 0.75 IU of vitamin E, increased significantly (p  less then  .05) the embryos hatchability when compared to the negative control. However, body weight at hatch and growth performance parameters showed no differences among treatments. Similarly, in ovo concentrations of vitamins C or E showed no differences on carcass traits, immunity-related organs weight or immune response for anti-Newcastle disease hemagglutination-inhibition and total immunoglobulins against sheep red blood cells (SRBC) when compared to the control groups. Based on findings, it can be concluded that in ovo feeding vitamins E and C supported positively chicken embryos hatchability demonstrating the key-role as antioxidant agents; however, further studies are currently being evaluated.Neurodegenerative disorders are illnesses that are responsible for neuronal cell death and resulting in lifelong cognitive problems. Due to their unclear mechanism, there are no effective drugs available for the treatment. For a long time, herbal drugs have been used as a role model in the field of the drug discovery process. Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha) in the Indian medicinal system (Ayurveda) is used for several neuronal disorders like insomnia and memory loss for decades. This study aims to identify active components of W. somnifera (WS) as potential inhibitors for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases (ND). To fulfill this objective, Network pharmacology approach, gene ontology, pharmacokinetics analysis, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics simulation (MDS) studies were performed. A total of 77 active components in WS, 175 predicted neurodegenerative targets of WS, and 8085 ND-related targets were identified from different databases. The network analysis showed that the top ten targets APP, EGFR, MAPK1, ESR1, HSPA4, PRKCD, MAPK3, ABL1, JUN, and GSK3B were found as significant target related to ND. On the basis of gene ontology and topology analysis results, APP was found as a significant target related to Alzheimer's disease pathways. Molecular docking results found that Anahygrine, Cuscohygrine, Isopelletierine, and Nicotine showed the best binding affinities -5.55, -4.73, -4.04, and -4.11 Kcal/mol. Further, MDS results suggested that Isopelletierine and Nicotine could be used as potential inhibitors against APP protein and could be useful for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Congenital dysplasia of the pelvis often occurs in isolation, however, it can also involve other pelvic components, and anomalies of the digestive system. Pelvic malformations have effects on the pelvic girdle and pelvic stability influencing the quality of gait. The condition can be treated with a total hip arthroplasty (THA). The concept of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) has been described as a comprehensive rehabilitation approach with a focus on motor learning. This case report seeks to illustrate the clinical reasoning and feasibility of applying the PNF-concept in a patient after a THA with multiple congenital pelvis malformations.

A male, 44 years of age, physically active laborer was treated with THA after hip dysplasia, with comorbid missing pubic symphysis. The patient presented with complaints in gait speed, gait distance, hip joint mobility and stability.

PNF-based motor-control training, including specified PNF-pattern exercises with specific PNF-facilitation principles andies" from daily life and sports. A specified PNF-based therapy including motor learning components, was a feasible approach in this case of complex pelvic skeletal malformations.A patient suffering from visuo-spatial neglect was investigated as a special interest case during a study on the effectiveness of "restorative approaches" after visual field loss. This patient trained with our newly developed Virtual Reality (VR) system "Salzburg Visual Field Trainer" for 254 days. Perimetric results show a visual field expansion of 48.8% (left eye) and 36.8% (right eye) translating to an improvement of approximately 5.5° to 10.5° of visual angle. Further, subjective self-report shows improvements of up to 317% in visual field functionality. Our results indicate that patients suffering from visuo-spatial neglect could benefit from a VR-based restorative intervention.Adultification, perceiving a child as older and more mature, and anger bias, perceiving anger where it does not exist, are two phenomena disproportionally imposed on Black children compared to White children. The current study assessed whether perceiving a Black child as older increases the odds of mistakenly perceiving anger. Participating were 152 parents who viewed video representations of 40 children in an emotion understanding paradigm. Black children were not seen as older than White children but they did have 1.27 higher odds of being misperceived as angry (p  less then  .05). Additionally, for each year increase in perceived age, the odds of anger bias increased by 1.04 for the Black children (p  less then  .05), but did not increase for White children. Implications of this finding include Black children receiving increased consequences when adults perceive them as older and angry. This commentary explores the missing discourse of sexual rights and sexual pleasure in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) that purport to leave no one behind. The SDG propose a welcome focus on sexual health and human rights for all, expanding beyond the Millennium Development Goals. While promising in many ways for advancing global sexual and reproductive health, and reproductive rights, the omission of sexual rights is troubling. So too is the erasure of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) persons, and sex workers, from the SDG discussions of social inequities. Illustrative examples are provided to demonstrate how a sexual rights focus could advance SDG 3 focused on healthy lives and well-being for all. First, sexual rights are presented as integral to realizing Target 3.3's focus on ending the HIV pandemic among LGBTQ persons and sex workers (and LGBTQ sex workers). Second, sexual pleasure is introduced as an integral component of sexual health and sexual rights that could facilitate the realization of Target 3.7's aim to provide universal access to sexual and reproductive health information and education. To truly leave no one behind and realize sexual health for all, the SDG need to begin from a foundation of sexual rights.Since the outbreak of COVID-19, a variety of vaccine platforms have been developed. Amongst these, inactivated vaccines have been authorized for emergency use or conditional marketing in many countries. To further enhance the protective immune responses in populations that have completed vaccination regimen, we investigated the immunogenic characteristics of different vaccine platforms and tried homologous or heterologous boost strategy post two doses of inactivated vaccines in a mouse model. Our results showed that the humoral and cellular immune responses induced by different vaccines when administered individually differ significantly. In particular, inactivated vaccines showed relatively lower level of neutralizing antibody and T cell responses, but a higher IgG2a/IgG1 ratio compared with other vaccines. Boosting with either recombinant subunit, adenovirus vectored or mRNA vaccine after two-doses of inactivated vaccine further improved both neutralizing antibody and Spike-specific Th1-type T cell responses compared to boosting with a third dose of inactivated vaccine.
