Trends included sub-themes in overwhelming emotions, emotional strain for staff members, and difficult situations. Conclusions VV in hospitals is a new and valuable way to connect patients with loved ones with mostly positive consequences. VV also has risks to mental health and well-being, particularly for healthcare workers facilitating the call.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), a single-stranded ribonucleic acid (RNA) β-coronavirus. Prolonged duration of symptoms, ill health, disability, and need for hospitalisation are all well-known features of severe COVID-19 disease.
To describe the epidemiological, clinical and imaging characteristics of hospitalised patients of COVID-19 who required prolonged oxygen therapy after testing negative for SARS-CoV-2 and attempt to determine the associated factors leading to delayed recovery, failure to wean, and mortality.
Prospective observational study from 9th September to 6th November 2020 in a tertiary care COVID hospital of Jharkhand. Included COVID-19-infected patients requiring oxygen to maintain a saturation of ≥95% after testing reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) negative. Patients were classified as Group I, those who could be weaned off oxygen, and Group II, those who could not be weaned ofon, precluding their discharge even after they test negative for SARS-CoV-2. Moreover, injury to the hand and wrist can lead to extreme morbidity and disable the injured for life. In this study, we highlight the most commonly damaged nerves and tendons that get ruptured in different types of hand trauma patients. No recent study has been done to document the etiologies and quantify the patterns of nerve and tendon involvement in hand injuries to the best of our knowledge. Methodology This was a cross-sectional study conducted at the largest trauma center in the city and the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery ward of Civil Hospital, Karachi. A convenient sampling of 200 patients was done with the help of a preformed, well-structured questionnaire. Patients whose hand was injured solely were included in the study and those with the involvement of the whole limb or other parts of the body were excluded. However, combined nerve injury of the ulnar, median, and radial nerve was seen in poly digit trauma. The median nerve was the most commonly damaged nerve in poly digit trauma. Conclusion This study significantly states that tendons are frequently injured in hand accidents. Plastic surgeons must also be aware of optimal nerve repair and reconstruction techniques to limit the physical disabilities and economic burden arising from nerve injury of the dominant hand.Deutetrabenazine (DTBZ) (Austedo®) is a novel vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) inhibitor, which acts by blocking dopamine release and other monoamines from neuronal vesicles. Although this drug is considered the first-line treatment for tardive dyskinesia (TD), VMAT2 inhibition has also been shown to improve patients' symptoms with Huntington's disease-induced chorea. We present the case of a 59-year-old woman with a history of TD, who presented to the emergency department following massive DTBZ ingestion. The relative paucity of other overdose symptoms further supports the manufacturer's claims of a low side effect profile for this drug in overdose. Although DTBZ demonstrates an excellent safety profile, emergency physicians should be aware of the potential side effect of DTBZ overdose, in addition to other known side effects of this novel drug.Perivascular spaces (PVSs) surrounding the walls of arteries, arterioles, and venules are a common finding in brain imaging. Even if they do not directly communicate with subarachnoid spaces, there are some cases in which subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and intracerebral hematomas extend to the PVSs by leakage of the leptomeninges. In this report, we present a case of enlargement and bleeding of PVSs in the midbrain of a young woman with head trauma, without evident SAH or intracerebral hematomas.
Ureteral stones may have an influence on kidney functions due to postrenal obstruction or urinary infections. Urgent decompression or stone removal is necessary and recommended to prevent further complications in case of severe conditions such as anuria and urosepsis. Although it is believed that ureteral stone removal would result in renal function improvement, there are still unclear points on whether ureteroscopy (URS) can provide benefit as expected and has some adverse effects. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the alteration of kidney functions of patients who undergo rigid or flexible URS for ureteral stones and find if there are any influencing factors on kidney function alteration.
We analyzed 126 patients who underwent retrogradeintrarenalsurgery (RIRS) for renal stones between May 2018 and February 2020prospectively. The estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was calculated on the day before the surgery, by modification of diet in renal disease (MDRD) formula. The calculation was repeated and saved three times during follow-up for the same patient; on the day after the operation, on the postoperative 30th day, and thepostoperative 90th day.
