The NHE led to higher muscle activation than the other exercises (

< 0.001). When exercise type and muscle interaction were examined, SM activation was lower than BF (

= 0.04) and ST (

= 0.001) during NHE (

< 0.05). The highest level of muscular activation was recorded during the NHE in both male and female participants.

The NHE may be the most effective exercise for the hamstring muscles as it leads to greater muscle activation. SLDL, USLDL, and BLC exercises may be preferred at the beginning of strength training programs since they lead to lower muscular activation compared with the NHE.

To select the optimum hamstring exercise, it is important to know the activation levels of the hamstring muscles during different eccentric exercises.

This study performed simulations and experiments on three kinds of dust exhaust hoods, namely, updraft, side-draft and air-curtain exhaust hoods. Results show these three kinds of exhaust hoods varied significantly in dust-capturing efficiency. The dust-capturing efficiency of the updraft exhaust hood was the lowest (56.8%) while the air-curtain exhaust hood performed best in dust collection, with a dust-capturing efficiency of 93.8%. For a rectangular air-curtain exhaust hood with a size of 900 mm x 1200 mm, the dust-capturing efficiency first increased and gradually tended to stabilize with increasing air-curtain velocity and suction airflow rate. According to the present research results, the reasonable long-side air-curtain velocity and suction airflow rate were in the range 4 ~ 6.27 m/s and 5.4 ~ 9 m3/min, respectively. Apitolisib Under these conditions, dust-capturing efficiency can be as high as 79.6-86.5%. Implications This study performed simulations and experiments on three kinds of dust exhaust hoods updraft, side-draft and air-curtain. Simulation results show the dust-capturing efficiency of the air-curtain exhaust hood is best of 93.8%. Experimental results show under reasonable conditions, the dust-capturing efficiency of a rectangular air-curtain exhaust hood is 79.6-86.5%. This research is very meaningful, which not only has important innovation in the study of micro mechanism of dust collectors but provides powerful theoretical and experimental support for technological innovation. Background Metabolic syndrome (MetS), a cluster of risk factors, leads to cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). The second leading cause of mortality in Mexico is T2D. Genetic factors participate in the pathogenesis of MetS. The HNFA gene encodes a transcription factor that plays a crucial role in energy homeostasis by regulating the metabolism of glucose and lipids. This study aimed to investigate the association of the T130I variant of the HNF4A gene in Mexican children with MetS and its constituent components. Methods The study was performed in 477 children from elementary schools. MetS was classified according to the de Ferranti definition. Biochemical parameters were measured and genotyping was performed. Logistic regression under a dominant genetic model was used to analyze the association of the T130I variant of the HNF4A gene with MetS and with its components separately. Results The prevalence of MetS was 25.4%, and 18.9% in children who presented insulin resistance. Interestingly, this is the first time that a significant association between the T130I variant of the HNF4A gene and MetS has been reported [odds ratios (OR) = 2.31; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.10-4.83; P = 0.026]. Moreover, carriers of the risk allele show higher abdominal obesity (OR = 1.20; 95% CI 1.09-4.50; P = 0.029). These findings highlight the active role of genetic variants in the pathogenesis of MetS in Mexican children. Conclusions The high prevalence of children with MetS and insulin resistance places this population at an elevated risk of early CVD and T2D. However, results on fish physiological responses are still fragmentary and often controversial, and no data are available on the effect of insect meal-based diets on fish reproduction. On this regard, zebrafish, with its relatively short life cycle, represents an ideal experimental model to explore this topic. In this study, female zebrafish were fed for 12 months on a control diet based on fish meal (FM) and fish oil and two experimental diets with full-fat BSF (Hermetia illucens) prepupae meal inclusion, to replace 25% and 50% of FM (BSF25 and BSF50). All diets were isonitrogenous, isolipidic, and isoenergetic. The effects of these two experimental diets on female's reproduction were investigated through a multidisciplinary approach, including the evaluation of growth, gonadosomatic index, spawned/fertilized eggs and hatching rate, adult female carcass and fertilized egg fatty acid composition, histological analysis of the ovary, spectroscopic macromolecular composition of class IV oocytes, and expression of genes involved in fish lipid metabolism in the liver. Results showed that while fish were perfectly able to cope with a 25% insect meal dietary inclusion, a 50% inclusion level caused the overexpression of genes involved in lipid metabolism, a general reduction in the number of spawned eggs, and differences in the frequency rate of previtellogenic oocytes, class III, IV, oocytes and postovulatory follicles and atretic oocytes, in the macromolecular composition of class IV oocytes, and in the fatty acid composition of the fertilized eggs, respect to control and 25% group. While marijuana use rates are significantly high within college students, less is known about use patterns and correlates in Latinx groups. This study assessed the relationships between ever use and frequency of use of marijuana, polysubstance use, expectancies, motives, and mental illness symptoms among Latinx college students (n = 345). Results indicated more frequent marijuana use was positively associated with enjoyment, celebration, social anxiety, low risk, sleep and availability and was negatively associated with experimentation, boredom, altered perception, and anxiety. Other dual use with tobacco expectancies were also observed. These constructs should be explored prospectively and inform prevention and intervention efforts.
