Background To research 1) how many acupuncture clinical trials are registered with the WHO International Clinical Trial Registry Platform (ICTRP) and what patterns they demonstrate, 2) publication of the articles of acupuncture clinical trials which were registered with ICTRP. Methods The search strategy using the ICTRP Intervention acupuncture; Recruitment status All; Date of registration; from 1 Jan 1990 to 31 Dec 2018. We searched the indexed articles in PubMed using trial IDs on 25 Feb 2019. When the paper was published, we indicated the number of weeks from the date of registration with ICTRP to the date of publication in order to define time till the publication. We divided the whole period we analyzed into 6 periods of every 3 years and measured the proportion of publication and the time from the date of registration of each trial till its publication in each period by the Kaplan-Meier method. Results Forty-three countries/areas conducted at least one acupuncture clinical trial. The total number of registrations was 1758. China, the USA, and the Republic of Korea accounted for 61% of those registrations. The proportion of publication was 178/1758 10% for the fully published papers and 141/1758 8% for the protocol papers. Conclusions The substantial increase of registrations by China, the Republic of Korea, Iran, Brazil, Japan was observed which may be attributed to improved awareness of the CONSORT statement. However, the fully published papers rate is low at 10%. The publication of results of acupuncture clinical trials should also be rigorously mandated. © 2020 Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine. Only few reports are available from literature and management (surgery vs follow up) is commonly based on the presence of symptoms or complications due to local mass effect, although evidence-based recommendations are still not available. We here report the case of a young adult CF patient with PC, in which cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) provided important information to be integrated to the radiological finding of inferior vena cava compression by the multicystic pancreas complex. Through the analysis of oxygen kinetic cardiodynamic phase pattern, CPET may be helpful to safely exclude significant mass effects on blood venous return and to improve the decision-making process on whether to consider surgery or not in patients with PC. © 2020 The Authors.Aim To quantify the percentage filling of the gutta-percha in obturated root canal cavity using image processing and analysis. Methodology The image processing and analysis using the X-ray radiographs is commonly being used by medical practitioners for easy and speedy diagnosis of patient health. But these methods are qualitative and assessment depends upon dentist's own experience and perception. Fifteen patients were randomly assigned to fifteen Dentists to perform the root canal treatment using warm vertical condensation. X-ray radiographs of pre and post obturation were obtained to carry image processing and analysis. Image enhancement, low pass filtering, k-means clustering algorithm and edge detection technique were applied to get results. Percentage filling of the obturated root canal using X-ray radiography (Dentist's prediction) and proposed algorithm results of the present study were compared. Out of fifteen Dentists, the prediction of twelve Dentists were close in range of percentage filling quantified using proposed algorithm of the present study. When investigated it was found that three discrepancies found due to lack of sufficient experience of the respective Dentist. The proposed algorithm not only helps to overcome this false assessment but also helps to quantify accurate percentage filling of gutta-percha and outlines unfilled cavity gap of root canal. Results The proposed algorithm of present study provides accurate percentage filling of gutta-percha in the obturated root canal up to two decimal points. The present study used gutta-percha as obturation material but the study can be implemented for any obturation material. Conclusion The proposed algorithm of present study accurately quantified the percentage filling of root canal cavity using image processing. It also locates and outlines the unfilled root canal cavity. © 2020 Craniofacial Research Foundation. selleck chemicals llc Published by Elsevier B.V. Previous studies have demonstrated that human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) can promote the malignant progression in various tumors, including OS. Also, it is recognized that exosomes derived from hBMSCs (hBMSC-Exos) mediate cell-to-cell communication and exhibit similar effects on the development of various tumors. However, the role of hBMSC-Exos in the development of OS is still unclear and the underlying mechanism needs to be elucidated. Our results show that hBMSC-derived exosomes promote OS cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Meanwhile, silencing autophagy-related gene 5 (ATG5) in OS cells abolishes the pro-tumor effects of hBMSC-Exos in vitro and in vivo. Our present study demonstrates that hBMSC-Exos promotes tumorigenesis and metastasis by promoting oncogenic autophagy in OS. © 2020 The Authors. Background Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been identified as key players in promoting tumourigenesis in osteosarcoma. LncRNA OR3A4 (OR3A4) has been reported as an oncogene in a number of tumours. However, the clinical value of OR3A4 in osteosarcoma and the role of OR3A4 in osteosarcoma progression are still unknown. Methods The expression levels of OR3A4 in the tumour tissue of osteosarcoma patients and osteosarcoma cell lines were detected by RT-PCR. Kaplan-Meier analysis and log-rank test were performed to evaluate the relationship between the level of OR3A4 expression and the prognosis of osteosarcoma patients. We investigated the association between the tissue expression levels of OR3A4 and different clinicopathological characteristics of osteosarcoma patients by χ2 tests. Bioinformatic databases and luciferase reporter assays were used to predict and validate the target microRNA of OR3A4. Finally, the role of OR3A4 in the proliferation and invasion of osteosarcoma cells was tested by MTT and Transwell assays, respectively.
