Children with SA history demonstrated inferior performance in visual attention/task switching and memory; with an emphasis in the loss of set in the Wisconsin test. The findings suggest the possibility of a primary attention deficit in children with SA history, possibly influencing the performance of other cognitive functions. © 2020 Published by Elsevier Ltd.Objectives Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tubes and ventriculoperitoneal shunts (VPS) are commonly placed in neurologically impaired patients. There is concern about safety of VPS coexisting with PEG tubes due to the potential for an increased risk of infection. In this study, we assess the risk of VPS infection and the amount of time between both procedures. Patients and methods Retrospective chart review of patients from our institution who had VPS and PEG tubes placed during the same hospitalization between 2014 and 2018. Our primary focus was assessing risk of VPS infection and timing of procedures in this patient population. Additionally, we assessed other factors which may contribute to VPS infection including SIRS criteria at time of VPS placement, comorbidities and other procedures performed. None of the SIRS factors were associated with VPS infection. Results 45 patients met inclusion criteria. Our VPS infection rate was found to be 7% (n = 3). These patients had 4, 16, and 36 days between procedures. 89% of our patients had PEG tube placed prior to VPS with 2 of these patients developing a VPS infection. At the time of VPS placement 42% of patients had SIRS. None of the SIRS factors were associated with VPS infection. Conclusion Our VPS infection rate remained low even when they were performed during the same hospitalization as a PEG tube placement. SIRS is not associated with the development of VPS infections and is not an absolute contraindication to placing a VPS. © 2020 Published by Elsevier Ltd.Never in history have global supply-chain relationships in high-tech electronics firms been more sophisticated, complicated, and almost always tied in some major aspect to China. This research examines how interorganizational (IO) cooperation impacts performance and what role relationship learning and information technology (IT) integration play in the value-creation process for Chinese suppliers in business-to-business (B2B) supply chains. We examine this issue using data collected from face-to-face interviews with supply chain managers and executives from 1,004 Chinese high-tech electronic component suppliers. The results strongly support the hypothesis that IO cooperation improves a supplier's performance regarding both its major customer and overall marketplace. Relationship learning and IT integration are important mediating variables that drive performance. The strongest effect in our study was the influence of IO cooperation on relationship learning. A unique aspect of this study is that it focuses on a large sample of a specific supplier type-high-tech Chinese suppliers. This, combined with the fact that the sampled companies were involved in manufacturing 13 different product groups, greatly increases the generalizability of the results. © 2020 The Authors. The vibrational density of states (VDOS), electronic structure and optical properties of bulk organo lead-halide perovskites, CH3NH3PbX3 (where X = Cl, I and Br), very promising and exciting candidate materials for solar-energy applications, have been studied by means of (hybrid) Density Functional Theory (DFT), with and without spin-orbit coupling, and equilibrium Born-Oppenheimer molecular dynamics (BOMD) in the constant-volume, isothermal (NVT) ensemble at 298 K. PI3K inhibitor Particular emphasis has been directed towards the detailed characterisation of optimal hybrid-DFT strategies to reproduce faithfully the band gap, band structure and optical properties vis-à-vis both experiment and more computationally demanding GW calculations (i.e., those involving the single-particle Green's function, G, and the screened Coulomb interaction, W). The VDOS was found to feature intimate coupling between the lead and halide atoms, and was dominated by acoustic phonon modes - particularly so for chlorine, suggesting this as the more effective candidate material of the considered halides. Bulk optical properties were also determined. In view of promising 'hybrid' architectures of perovskites adsorbed on titania substrates, further simulations of lead iodide in contact with titania have been performed to assess thermal stability, as well as dynamical and structural properties of these systems. It was found that lattice strain led to some atomic layers in perovskite further from the interface adopting less crystal-like structure and less pronounced phonon spectra. © 2020 Published by Elsevier Ltd.This study was part of a larger One Health project with the aim of investigating the epidemiology of Cryptosporidium and Giardia infections among humans and animals in rural areas of Tigray, Ethiopia. Here we report on the contamination of different drinking water sources in four locations of this region with these Cryptosporidium oocysts and Giardia cysts; 19 samples were from unprotected surface water sources and 18 from protected water sources. A modified version of the standard ISO 15553 technique was used for analysis, and Giardia cysts were detected in 6 of the samples (16%) and Cryptosporidium in two (5%), with one of these samples containing both parasites. The number of Giardia cysts in positive samples ranged from 3 to 22 cysts per 10 L sample, and the number of Cryptosporidium oocysts in positive samples ranged from 1 to 3 oocysts per 10 L sample. Low numbers of parasites and absence of nuclei, as indicated by the absence of DAPI staining, precluded further molecular analyses. We found no association with contamination and whether the water source was protected or not, but there was an association with location, with one location more likely to have a contaminated sample than the others. These preliminary data suggest that this location should be in focus for further parts of this study. © 2020 The Authors. The cystine/glutamate exchanger (xCT, SLC7A11) is a component of the system Xc amino-acid antiporter that is able to export glutamate and import cysteine into cells. The xCT amino acid exchanger has received a lot of attention, due to the fact that cysteine is an essential substrate for the synthesis of glutathione (GSH), an endogenous antioxidant in cells. The objective of this research was to clone the full-length cDNA of chicken xCT, and to investigate the gene expression of xCT in different tissues, including intestinal segments of broiler chickens during development. The full-length cDNA of chicken xCT (2,703 bp) was obtained from the jejunum by reverse transcription-PCR and sequenced. Homology tests showed that chicken xCT had 80.4%, 80.2%, and 71.2% homology at the nucleotide level with humans, cattle, and rats, respectively. Likewise, amino acid sequence analysis showed that chicken xCT protein is 86.4%, 79.3%, and 75.6% homologous with humans, cattle, and rats, respectively. Additionally, phylogenetic analysis indicated that chicken xCT genes share a closer genetic relationship with humans and cattle, than with rats.
