Precipitation, complexation and cation exchange dominated Pb sorption and the corresponding contributions accounted for 17.89-32.73%, 28.84-46.22%, and 21.05-53.27%, respectively. Additionally, desorption characteristics of Pb illustrated that WBC_PMA owned more prominent stabilization ability than that of WBC and WBC_PMB. The findings of this study suggested that pre-modification method increased the contents of active groups in biochar and strengthened the removal efficiency of Pb ultimately. Due to the complexity of the actual Pb-containing wastewater environment, it was necessary to evaluate the effects of various factors on the stabilization performance of the pre-modified biochar in further.Drought, a natural hydrometeorological phenomenon, has been more frequent and more widespread due to climate change. Water availability strongly regulates the coupling (or trade-off) between carbon uptake via photosynthesis and water loss through transpiration, known as water-use efficiency (WUE). Understanding the effects of drought on WUE across different vegetation types and along the wet to dry gradient is paramount to achieving better understanding of ecosystem functioning in response to climate change. We explored the physiological and environmental control on ecosystem WUE in response to drought using observations for 44 eddy covariance flux sites in the Northern Hemisphere. We quantified the response of WUE to drought and the relative contributions of gross primary production (GPP) and evapotranspiration (ET) to the variations of WUE. We also examined the control of physiological and environmental factors on monthly WUE under different moisture conditions. Cropland had a peak WUE value under moderate drought conditions, while grassland, deciduous broadleaf forest (DBF), evergreen broadleaf forest (EBF), and evergreen needleleaf forest (ENF) had peak WUE under slight drought conditions. WUE was mainly driven by GPP for cropland, grassland, DBF, and ENF but was mainly driven by ET for EBF. Vapor pressure deficit (VPD) and canopy conductance (Gc) were the most important factors regulating WUE. Moreover, WUE had negative responses to air temperature, precipitation, and VPD but had a positive response to Gc and ecosystem respiration. Our findings highlight the different effects of biotic and abiotic factors on WUE among different vegetation types and the important roles of VPD and Gc in controlling ecosystem WUE in response to drought.Beneficial effects of methyl jasmonate (MeJA) on plants under different abiotic conditions have long been demonstrated. This study aimed to figure out how exogenous MeJA mitigated high-Se toxicity in rice from plant physiology and gene express perspective to provide the theory and technique for safe production of Se-rich rice. The results showed that low concentrations of MeJA at 0.1-1.0 μM inhibited high-Se induced nonreversible toxicity by enhancing antioxidant-system and reducing H2O2 and MDA content in rice seedlings. In comparison with control, addition of low concentrations of MeJA at 0.1-1.0 μM reduced the Se content in roots by 13.6-48.8% and in shoots by 52.6-59.9%. Besides, lower concentrations of MeJA decreased the Se(IV) transformation to SeCys and SeMet. The qRT-PCR analysis showed that application of low concentration of MeJA down-regulated the gene expression of OsNIP2;1, and OsPT2 in roots and OsNIP2;1, OsPT2, OsSBP1, and OsCS in shoots, which inhibited Se absorption. However, high concentrations of MeJA at 2.5-5.0 μM decreased antioxidant capacity and increased H2O2 and MDA content in rice seedlings. The results suggested that MeJA at 0.1-1.0 μM can be used to mitigate high-Se toxicity in rice production. This research augments the knowledge for future utilization of MeJA in down-regulating Se levels in crops.Herein we analyze the profitability of a novel regenerative process to synergize biogas upgrading and carbon dioxide utilization. Our proposal is a promising alternative which allows to obtain calcium carbonate as added value product while going beyond traditional biogas upgrading methods with high thermal energy consumption. Recently we have demonstrated the experimental viability of this route. In this work, both the scale-up and the profitability of the process are presented. Furthermore, we analyze three representative scenarios to undertake a techno-economic study of the proposed circular economy process. The scale-up results demonstrate the technical viability of our proposal. The precipitation efficiency and the product quality are still remarkable with the increase of the reactor size. The techno-economic analysis reveals that the implementation of this circular economy strategy is unprofitable without subsidies. Nonetheless, the results are somehow encouraging as the subsides needed to reach profitability are lower than in other biogas upgrading and carbon dioxide utilization proposals. Indeed, for the best-case scenario, a feed-in tariff incentive of 4.3 €/MWh makes the approach profitable. A sensitivity study through tornado analysis is also presented, revealing the importance of reducing bipolar membrane electrodialysis energy consumption. Overall our study envisages the big challenge that the EU faces during the forthcoming years. The evolution towards bio-based and circular economies requires the availability of economic resources and progress on engineering technologies.Cypermethrin (CYP), a broad-spectrum pyrethroid insecticide is extensively used. CYP is also considered as a potential endocrine disruptor with the thyroid-disturbing property. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/elacridar-gf120918.html Protein kinase C alpha (PKCα) is a pleiotropic signal transduction molecule that functions crucially in thyroid hormone (TH) homeostasis and thyroid functions. To explore underlying roles of PKCα in CYP-mediated disturbance of TH homeostasis, Sprague-Dawley rats and rat thyroid cells were used in this study. Results showed that β-CYP stimulated TH biosynthesis, as shown by the increase in plasma levels of TT4, FT4, TT3, FT3, and TSH. After β-CYP treatment, expressions of PKCα, three miRNAs (miR-17-5p, miR-330-3p, and miR-331-3p), thyroid transcription factor TTF-1, and thyroid-specific proteins (TSHr, TPO, and Tg) were significantly increased, while expressions of PI3K p110α, p-Akt, FOXA1, and thyroid transcription factors (TTF-2 and Pax8) were decreased. Further studies found that β-CYP induced PKCα translation by the miR-330-3p-targeted PI3K/Akt-FOXA1 cascade and then PKCα positively regulated TTF-1 to promote TPO and Tg expressions, which in turn facilitated TH biosynthesis.
