uration of surgery compares favorably with conventional combined hilar approaches. The COVID-19 pandemic swept the globe in January of 2020 causing mass panic and extreme hysteria. While pandemics are not new, COVID-19 is emerging as a public health crisis in nearly every household in America. In this paper, I discuss how COVID-19 has ravaged one of the wealthiest African American counties in the United States. Using Public Health Critical Race Praxis (PHCR) I seek to examine how disparities exist in health care and public funding is not equally distributed regardless of wealth and status for minoritized communities. Using PCHR's framework I highlight many of the disparities that exist in health care for people of color during this global health crisis and provide implications for improvement in federal, state, and local funding in communities of color. WRW4 This article advances scholarship on the intersection between public health and social work particularly alluding to the need for increased advocacy for marginalized communities. The NHS faces challenges in recruiting and retaining clinicians. The NHS Long-Term Plan aims to increase NHS staffing levels as one of its objectives. With adequate support, refugee doctors can help fill gaps in staffing and deliver high-quality patient care. There is a moral imperative to support this group to promote inclusion and equality. London is the only region in England to offer refugee doctors the opportunity of a funded six-month supernumerary F2 role with access to a bespoke education programme and to the resources offered by the Professional Support Unit (PSU). Our aim was to evaluate retention rates of refugee doctors in the NHS following this six-month placement.Between October 2009 (at the inception of CAPS) to March 2020, 85 refugee doctors entered the CAPS programme. Of the 48 doctors who responded to our questionnaire, 45 are still working in the NHS (93.8%). Most are working as Locally Employed Doctors across a range of hospital specialities (47%) but general practice was the single most popular career choice (29%).The CAPS scheme is successful in integrating refugee doctors into the NHS at a relatively low cost. More support should be offered to this group in terms of career progression, and the scheme should be rolled out to other regions of the UK, particularly those in which there is a shortage of doctors.Counting mitotic figures (MF) in hematoxylin and eosin-stained histologic sections is an integral part of the diagnostic pathologist's tumor evaluation. The mitotic count (MC) is used alone or as part of a grading scheme for assessment of prognosis and clinical decisions. Determining MCs is subjective, somewhat laborious, and has interobserver variation. Proposals for standardizing this parameter in the veterinary field are limited to terminology (use of the term MC) and area (MC is counted in an area measuring 2.37 mm2). Digital imaging techniques are now commonplace and widely used among veterinary pathologists, and field of view area can be easily calculated with digital imaging software. In addition to standardizing the methods of counting MF, the morphologic characteristics of MF and distinguishing atypical mitotic figures (AMF) versus mitotic-like figures (MLF) need to be defined. This article provides morphologic criteria for MF identification and for distinguishing normal phases of MF from AMF and MLF. Pertinent features of digital microscopy and application of computational pathology (CPATH) methods are discussed. Correct identification of MF will improve MC consistency, reproducibility, and accuracy obtained from manual (glass slide or whole-slide imaging) and CPATH approaches.Metastasis is the most prevalent cause of cancer-associated deaths amongst patients with cervical cancer. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is essential for carcinogenesis, and it confers metastatic properties to cancer cells. Gossypol is a natural polyphenolic compound with anti-inflammation, anti-oxidant, and anticancer activities. In this study, we investigated the antimetastatic and antitumour effects of gossypol on human cervical cancer cells (HeLa and SiHa cells). Gossypol exerted a strong inhibition effect on the migration and invasion of human cervical cancer cells. It reduced the focal adhesion kinase (FAK) pathway-mediated expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2 and urokinase-type plasminogen activator, subsequently inhibiting the invasion of SiHa cells. In addition, gossypol reversed EMT induced by transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-[Formula see text]1) and up-regulated epithelial markers, such as E-cadherin but significantly suppressed Ras homolog family member (Rho)A, RhoB, and p-Samd3. The tail vein injection model showed that gossypol treatment via oral gavage reduced lung metastasis. Gossypol also decreased tumour growth in vivo in the nude mouse xenograft model. All these findings suggest that gossypol suppressed the invasion and migration of human cervical cancer cells by targeting the FAK signaling pathway and reversing TGF-[Formula see text]1-induced EMT. Hence, gossypol warrants further attention for basic mechanistic studies and drug development. As a traditional Chinese alternative health care approach, acupuncture is gaining increasing attention and reputation in China and overseas. While becoming increasingly popular globally, some consumers and professionals still know little about the therapy and underlying mechanisms of acupuncture. Due to local superiority, there are large numbers of both clinical applications and mechanistic studies performed in China compared to countries overseas. Herein, this review attempts to give a comprehensive profile of the development, application, and mechanisms of acupuncture in treating major diseases. The number of clinical publications concerning acupuncture-treated neurological diseases, endocrine and metabolic diseases, circulatory diseases, respiratory diseases, etc. is first counted, and then, the application and therapeutic mechanisms of acupuncture on the predominant diseases in each category, including obesity, facial paralysis, sciatica, depression, hypertension, asthma, etc., are specifically discussed in this paper.
