This study aims to analyze if the fluctuating asymmetry (FA) of the Corocoro grunt Orthopristis ruber is affected by mercury concentration in Brazilian Southeastern eutrophicated bay. The O. ruber fishes were collected in two areas of the Guanabara Bay, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Vermelha Beach, influenced to ocean waters, and Paquetá Island, for greater freshwater loads of the rivers of the region, both in wet and dry seasons. Possibly availability of food resources, exposure to other pollutants and harmful agents (pesticide, algal toxicity, among others), and environmental and oceanographic factors may be reflecting on the FA detected for the O. ruber population. Mercury (Hg) is a harmful trace metal when present in the food, because of the high toxicity, high levels of absorption, and low excretion rate. Hg accumulates in human organisms through fish consumption, which may represent a risk to health. Analytical determinations of THg were performed by Direct Mercury Analyzer, following the manufacture's recommendations and following the procedure proposed by Guimarães et al. (Food Sci Nutr 4398-408, 2015). No evidenced in the influence of THg on FA. In turn, the THg was significantly different between areas. Higher THg levels were found in O. ruber populations in the Vermelha Beach, with mean values of HgT 0.08 ± 0.01 mg/kg-1, and the Paquetá Island with HgT 0.05 ± 0.01 mg/kg-1. Likely higher THg on the Vermelha Beach occurred due to hydrodynamic factors, increasing the bioavailability of THg from the sediment and incorporated into the food web. This indicates that the higher THg levels in the outermost area of the Guanabara Bay can directly influence the bioaccumulation of this metal in the commercially important species present in this region, through the trophic chain because O. ruber constitutes an important part of the diet of themselves.Novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) causing COVID-19 disease has arisen to be a pandemic. Since there is a close association between other viral infection cases by epidemics and environmental factors, this study intends to unveil meteorological effects on the outbreak of COVID-19 across eight divisions of Bangladesh from March to April 2020. A compound Poisson generalized linear modeling (CPGLM), along with a Monte-Carlo method and random forest (RF) model, was employed to explore how meteorological factors affecting the COVID-19 transmission in Bangladesh. Results showed that subtropical climate (mean temperature about 26.6 °C, mean relative humidity (MRH) 64%, and rainfall approximately 3 mm) enhanced COVD-19 onset. The CPGLM model revealed that every 1 mm increase in rainfall elevated by 30.99% (95% CI 77.18%, - 15.20%) COVID-19 cases, while an increase of 1 °C of diurnal temperature (TDN) declined the confirmed cases by - 14.2% (95% CI 9.73%, - 38.13%) on the lag 1 and lag 2, respectively. In addition, NRH and MRH had the highest increase (17.98% (95% CI 22.5%, 13.42%) and 19.92% (95% CI 25.71%, 14.13%)) of COVID-19 cased in lag 4. The results of the RF model indicated that TDN and AH (absolute humidity) influence the COVID-19 cases most. In the Dhaka division, MRH is the most vital meteorological factor that affects COVID-19 deaths. This study indicates the humidity and rainfall are crucial factors affecting the COVID-19 case, which is contrary to many previous studies in other countries. These outcomes can have policy formulation for the suppression of the COVID-19 outbreak in Bangladesh.Understanding the effect of landscape characteristics on water quality can provide insight into mitigating water quality impairment. However, there is no consensus about the key controlling factors influencing water quality. This paper examined the combined effects of land use and topography on water quality across multi-scale, and identified the key controlling factors determining water quality variation in the headwater watershed of the Hengxi reservoir in Eastern China. Water quality impairment (WQI), expressed as a composite variable, was established to measure the overall water quality. We used the partial least squares (PLSR) method to explore the combination of landscape metrics and identify the key controlling factors. Results showed that the optimal PLSR model at 50-m, 100-m, and 150-m buffer scales and catchment scale explained 77%, 63%, 60%, and 56% of variability in WQI, respectively. At catchment scale, patch density, the percentage of paddy field, and hypsometric integral were the key controlling factors impacting water quality. At buffer scales, the slope gradient, the percentage of forest land, and topographic wetness index were more effectively determined WQI variation. Thus, the key controlling factors depend on spatial scales. Both spatial scales and corresponding key controlling factors should be considered in the adjustment of land use composition and planning of landscape configuration to better protect water quality.Cyanobacteria are photosynthetic autotrophic aquatic prokaryotes. One of the methods for controlling cyanobacterial blooms is to destroy the phycobiliproteins required for photosynthesis. selleck chemicals In this study, to improve the biodegradation of the fluoroquinolones through inhibit cyanobacteria, the molecular docking scores of 32 fluoroquinolones (FQs) with four categories of phycobiliproteins from cyanobacteria were calculated after sine normalization to characterize the binding ability between them. A two-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (2D-QSAR) model was constructed based on the comprehensive scores. Danofloxacin (DAN) with the highest comprehensive score was chosen for molecular modification. When docking with four categories of phycobiliproteins from cyanobacteria, the docking values of DAN-11 and DAN-16 were increased up to 35.75%. Moreover, their functional characteristics and environmentally friendly predictive values were improved. When the DAN-11 and DAN-16 molecules docked with the other cyanobacterial phycobiliproteins, indicating that the designed DAN derivatives had general applicability to poison cyanobacteria, the weak interaction forces might increase the binding ability between the DAN derivatives and the receptor phycobiliprotein compared with the target molecule.
