Exposure to Ni-refining fumes suppressed cell proliferation and increased lactate production compared with those in an untreated control group in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Ni-refining fumes induced the Warburg effect, which was observed based on increases in the levels of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α, hexokinase 2, pyruvate kinase isozyme type M2, and lactate dehydrogenase A. In addition, Ni-refining fumes promoted increased expression of NLRP3 at both the gene and protein levels. Furthermore, inhibition of the Warburg effect by 2-Deoxy-d-glucose reversed the increased expression of NLRP3 induced by Ni-refining fumes. Collectively, our data demonstrated that the Warburg effect can promote the expression of the NLRP3 inflammasome induced by the Ni-refining fumes in BEAS-2B cells. The activity of gamma-glutamyl transferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, creatine phosphokinase, lactate dehydrogenase, cholinesterase, alkaline phosphate, and α-amylase and the concentration of serum calcium, Mg, phosphorus, and chloride ion were measured. Animals and workers were exposed to examination of the same indicators. Four themes-emotional expression, active mourning, expectations, and meaning-making-are presented as a poem to reflect the creative form and delivery of music. Presumptive Stressful Life Events Scale, Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale, and Alcohol Relapse Risk Scale were used.Results Severity of alcohol harmful use was significantly higher in psychiatry patients than gastroenterology. Increased number of gastroenterology patients reported "change in their sleeping habits" as an important factor for relapse than psychiatry, which was not significant. Only stimulus-induced vulnerability was significantly increased in psychiatry patients compared to gastroenterology. Social support significantly correlated with the alcohol relapse risk scores in the psychiatry group, while in the gastroenterology, the severity of alcohol harmful use scores significantly correlated with total alcohol relapse risk scores.Conclusions The individual stressors and the risk for relapse were different between the two groups. There was no difference in social support between the two groups. These findings can have implications for using these factors in relapse prevention strategies by focusing on the factors specifically found in each group. However, these findings have to be studied in a larger community sample.

For patients with cancer who are older than 65 years, the 2018 ASCO Guideline recommends geriatric assessment (GA) be performed. However, there are limited data on providers' practices using GA. Therefore, ASCO's Geriatric Oncology Task Force conducted a survey of providers to assess practice patterns and barriers to GA.

Cancer providers treating adult patients including those ≥ 65 years completed an online survey. Questions included those asking about awareness of ASCO's Geriatric Oncology Guideline (2018), use of validated GA tools, and perceived barriers to using GA. Descriptive statistics and statistical comparisons between those aware of the Guideline and those who were not were conducted. Statistical significance was set at

The aim of this study was to make a volumetric comparison of some medial temporal lobe structures and neuropeptides between the patients of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and healthy individuals.

The study comprised of a group of patients diagnosed with mild AD (n15) and a Control group (n15) (16 females, 14 males, mean age72.90 ± 4.50). Voxel-based morphometry and MRICloud analyses were performed on the MR images taken in 3D measurements of gray matter volumes of all subjects. Following a 10-minute hug test, blood samples were taken from all participants for oxytocin (OT) and arginine vasopressin (AVP) analyses.

The patient group had a statistically lower right hippocampus volume (

 = 0.004) and OT values (

 = 0.028) than the Control group. OT signal values increased with a volume increase in the right parahippocampal gyrus (PHG_R), and OT conc. and AVP conc. values increased with increasing volume of the PHG_R.

It is suggested that the right hippocampus, right fusiform gyrus, left amygdala, left parahippocampal gyrus, and left entorhinal cortex atrophies can be used as predictors in the early diagnosis of AD.
