Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation is a computational method which focuses on atomic/molecular behavior at the microscale. The last two decades have witnessed a substantial increase in number and a broadening in scope regarding applications of MD in a wide spectrum of areas, including EG-related research. In this mini-review, MD works which solve EG-related problems and provide new insights into the functionality of EG are considered. Challenges of the MD method in EG research are articulated, and the future of MD in solving EG-related problems is also evaluated.

Participants were 989 Dutch middle-aged to older adults from the SMART-MR prospective cohort, followed up to 12 years with up to 3 measurements of memory and brain MRI. Education and Dutch National Adult Reading Test (DART) were used as proxies of cognitive reserve, and intracranial volume (ICV) and baseline brain parenchymal fraction (BPF) for brain reserve. Univariate growth curve models analyzed associations of reserve with memory decline, and multiple-group bivariate growth curve models tested the longitudinal brain-memory relationship as a function of reserve. Models were additionally stratified by mid-life and late-life.

Ninety-six one-day-old AA broiler chickens were separated into four groups, including control group, AFB1 (1 mg/kg) group, curcumin (300 mg/kg) + AFB1 (1 mg/kg) group and curcumin (300 mg/kg) group. After 28 days treatment, livers were collected for different experimental analyses. The morphological observation results showed obvious necrotic characteristics, including cell swelling, rupture of cell and mitochondrial membranes and inflammation in chicken livers. AFB1 exposure increased oxidative stress index (ROS and MDA) and decreased the antioxidant activity markers (SOD, CAT and GSH) and ATPase activities in chickens' liver. A series of transcriptome-proteome based analysis accompanied with toxicity evaluations were performed for the ornamental jellyfish Phacellophora camtschatica.

Through combined morphological observation and Cytochrome c oxidase subunit Ⅰ (CO1) molecular alignment, the sample jellyfish was identified as P. camtschatica. A total of 25,747 unigenes and 3058 proteins were obtained from the successfully constructed transcriptome and proteome, in which 6869 (26.68%) and 6618 (25.70%) unigenes, as well as 2536 (82.93%) and 2844 (93.00%) proteins were annotated against the databases of Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), respectively. The jellyfish displayed obvious in vivo lethal effects with significant increases of multi-organ functional indexes as well as in vitro activities. Total of 62 toxins from 120 toxin-related unigenes were screened including 16 metalloproteases, 11 phospholipases and others. Moreover, 11 toxins were further screened by using the erythrocyte model, where the zinc metalloproteinase nas-15-like (1) was the most abundant. Maternal occupational exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) may have adverse effect on birth outcomes. However, little is known about paternal EDCs exposure and the combined effect of parental exposure on birth outcomes.

To assess the effects of both maternal and paternal occupational EDCs exposure on adverse birth outcomes, and further explore if multi-vitamins supplement and infant sex modify the association.

We conducted a prospective cohort study of 5421 mother-father-newborn groups in Guangzhou, China. A questionnaire informed by a job exposure matrix (JEM) was applied to collect parental occupational EDCs exposure based on the type of work performed. We used logistic regression to estimate association between parental EDCs exposure and birth outcomes (including preterm birth (PTB), low birth weight (LBW), birth defects and congenital heart defects (CHD)). Stratified analyses and Cochran Q tests were performed to assess the modifying effect of maternal multi-vitamins supplement use and e babies, although the modification effects were not significant.

However, research concerning toxicity in the stomach is limited. In this study, arsenic-induced gastric toxicity was investigated in a mouse model, and grape skin extract (GSE) was confirmed to have protective effects against arsenic toxicity. Our experimental results showed that exposure to 10 mg/l arsenic via drinking water for 56 days caused oxidative damage and inflammatory responses. The H2O2 and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents were significantly increased, accompanied by significant decreases in total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD) activity and glutathione (GSH) content in the gastric tissue of arsenic-treated mice. Two inflammatory signalling pathways, i.e., TLR2/MyD88/NF-κB and IL-6/STAT-3, were activated, along with inflammatory cell infiltration and the elevated mRNA expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β and IFN-γ) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) in the gastric tissue of mice exposed to arsenic. Meanwhile, the mRNA levels of the ZO-1, ZO-2 and occludin genes, which encode the key components of tight junction (TJ) complexes, were downregulated.
