A new species of cixiid planthopper (Hemiptera Fulgoroidea) in the genus Oecleus Stål, Oecleus mackaspringi sp. n., is described from Spring Garden, Jamaica. This new taxon is associated with coconut palm (Cocos nucifera L.) and was found while surveying palm plots with active cases of lethal yellowing (LY). This is the first report of the genus Oecleus from Jamaica. Sequence data for the COI gene and 18S gene are also provided.Phidon chanco sp. nov. is the first species of the genus where both sexes are described Male and female genitalia are described and illustrated using SEM. The new species can be distinguished from the other members of the genus, by the existence of brachypterism in both sexes; in males the median triangle of the sternum IX is long, sclerotised, and its apex strongly armed with numerous denticles; in females the tergite X is emarginate. The new species is distributed exclusively in the coastal forests of central Chile, in association with remnants of native flora and protected areas.A redescription of Pagurus albus (Benedict, 1892) is presented together with a description of a new species of hermit crab, Pagurus pseudoalbus sp. n., from the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Pagurus pseudoalbus sp. n. differs from P. albus and P. perlatus by the length of antennal acicles, which do not exceed the distal margin of the 4th antennal segment, whereas in the latter two species, the antennal acicles exceed the 4th antennal segment; the antennular peduncle is proportionally longer than the ocular peduncle in the new species compared to P. perlatus, but shorter than in P. albus; the palm of the right cheliped in P. pseudoalbus sp. n. is 1.3 times as long as broad, while in P. albus and P. perlatus it is 1.0 and 1.4 times as long as broad, respectively. Including the new species, the genus Pagurus in the Eastern Tropical Pacific currently includes 16 species.Laena hongqiao sp. n. is described from Shanghai. This discovery expands the provincial distribution of the huge tenebrionid genus Laena in mainland China, and enriches the knowledge of the species diversity in Shanghai. A key modified from Schawaller 2008 and Wei Ren 2018 is provided to include this new species.Four species of the tribe Lobellini (Collembola Neanuridae Neanurinae) are recorded from Langshan National Geopark, Hunan Province, Central-South China. Two of them, Crossodonthina langshanensis sp. nov. and Lobellina gladius sp. nov., are new to science and described in this paper. I with 9 chaetae, Th. I with 4+4 tubercles, VT with 6-8 (usually 7) chaetae. New localities of Crossodonthina choui Jiang Zhang, 2012 and Lobellina yinae Jiang, Huang Luan, 2018 are also provided.Hoverflies (Diptera Syrphidae) of the subfamily Microdontinae were surveyed in Northeast China. A total of six species were identified, including one new to science, Microdon dentigiganteum sp. nov. from Liaoning. This new species has a pair of very large-size posterior calcars on the scutellum and very wide flat tarsi. New records of Metadon spuribifasciatus (Huo, Ren et Zheng, 2007), Microdon analis (Macquart, 1842) and Microdon auricomus Coquillett, 1898 from Jilin province, and Microdon ignotus Violovitsh, 1976 and Microdon oitanus Shiraki, 1930 from Liaoning province are provided. A key to the six studied species and diagnostic figures are presented.We present the first checklist of Asian beetles of the subgenus Copris (Paracopris) Balthasar, 1939 including new data on the distribution. In addition, Copris (Paracopris) javanensis Bui, Ziegler Bonkowski, new species from Java (Indonesia) is described and Copris (Paracopris) punctulatus Wiedemann, 1823 is redescribed based on specimens deposited in the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle (Paris, France), including detailed illustrations of both sexes and male genitalia. At the same time, a neotype is designated for C. (P.) punctulatus as the type specimen was lost.In North America, Paleogene Verrucidae are rarely encountered. Only a single named species has been previously discussed by Zullo Baum (1979), who provisionally assigned a Palaeocene form from North Carolina to Verruca rocana Steinmann, 1921. Eocene deposits in Washington State (USA) have now yielded two new species from intertidal to shallow water environments Verruca gailgoedertae sp. nov. from the middle Eocene Crescent/McIntosh transition zone, and Verruca sorrellae sp. nov. from the upper Eocene to lowest Oligocene Gries Ranch and basal Lincoln Creek formations. Both species are characterized by punctate shell plates, and are placed in the lineage of Verruca stroemia (O.F. Müller, 1776). In Alabama, marls from the upper Yazoo Formation (Pachuta and Shubuta Members) have yielded Verruca alabamensis sp. nov., an uncommon deeper water form associated with abundant brachiopods and phosphate deposition. This last species shows no development of punctae and is not related to the lineage that leads directly to Verruca stroemia.Adults and larvae of Aleochara are found in fly-infested habitats, where the larvae are ectoparasitoids of fly pupae. There are three subgenera recorded in Brazil. This study provides a taxonomic revision of Brazilian species of the subgenus Aleochara. As a result, we recognize seven species in Brazil, A. bonariensis Lynch, A. bugnioni Fauvel, A. lustrica Say, A. chrysorrhoa Erichson and three species described by Sharp A. auricoma, A. mundana and A. prisca. Redescriptions and illustrations of the male and female genitalia are provided for all species. Nomenclatural changes A. bugnioni is considered a new junior synonym of A. lateralis Erichson, and A. pseudochrysorrhoa Caron, Mise Klimaszewski is a new junior synonymy of A. bonariensis. In addition, the type of A. verecunda Sharp, was not studied and the name is considered as species inquirenda, while A. curtula (Goeze) is not confirmed in Brazil and its Neotropical records is discussed. Finally, a key to species is provided and an updated checklist of the Brazilian species of Aleochara (Aleochara), including synonyms, is compiled.
