The α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methy-4-isoxazole propionate (AMPA) receptor plays a critical role in the development and persistence of pain, and AMPA receptor antagonists are considered possible therapeutic targets for controlling pain. This report describes a patient with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) type I in the right lower leg and foot who responded well to perampanel, an AMPA receptor antagonist, for managing the chronic pain.

A 61-year-old woman complained of pain in her right lower leg and foot over a period of 7 year (numeric rating scale 8) due to CRPS type I.

Despite the combination of 300 mg pregabalin, 225 mg/1950 mg tramadol/acetaminophen, and 10 mg nortriptyline per day, her right lower leg and foot were nearly disabled due to the severity of the pain. High-dose prednisolone was found to be ineffective. Then, perampanel (4 mg; 2 mg twice) was administered to this patient daily.

The day after treatment with perampanel, her pain completely disappeared. Additionally, at day 7 and 1 month follow-up, she reported no pain in the right lower leg and foot. Moreover, no adverse effects were reported after the application of perampanel.

These results suggest that perampanel may potentially be used to treat centralized pain.

A hepatobronchial fistula and lung abscess following a pyogenic liver abscess is a rare entity and it is not easy to diagnose this condition based on the symptoms and chest radiography.

An 81-year-old man presented with productive cough and dyspnea.

Chest radiography indicated increased opacities in the right lower lung field with an air-fluid level suggestive of pneumonia complicated by a lung abscess. Chest and abdominal computed tomography revealed an abscess in the right lower lung field that bordered an abscess at segment 7 of the liver. Tubography confirmed a fistula between the liver and lung abscesses.

Due to communication between 2 abscesses, transhepatic approach was done instead of transpleural approach to avoid complications.

A liver abscess complicated by a lung abscess was resolved following percutaneous transhepatic drainage of the liver abscess and antibiotic administration.

Pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is a technically demanding procedure with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Therefore, preoperative evaluation of anatomy is indispensable. Multi-detector row computed tomography (CT) enables us to precisely understand arterial anatomy. It is a well-known fact that anatomical variants are often present in the hepatic artery (HA) but rarely in the gastroduodenal artery (GDA). We present the case of a patient with ampullary cancer with a rare anatomical anomaly, "replaced GDA (rGDA) " arising from the superior mesenteric artery, along with a history of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) using right gastroepiploic artery (RGEA).

A 69-year-old male patient was referred to our department for further investigation of elevated hepatobiliary enzymes. He presented with no symptoms besides intermittent fever of 38°C. He had an operative history of CABG using the RGEA.

Child sun protection has recently been linked to the future disappearance of fatal melanoma in adults in successive generations. In the Netherlands, however, mortality rates from melanoma have increased gradually from the 1950s, with some indication of stabilisation since 2010, which may be compatible with a birth cohort effect by sun-protective measures and screening. To study the trajectories ahead a trend analysis was applied. Numbers of people with cutaneous melanoma as underlying cause of death from 1950 to 2018 and population data were derived from Statistics Netherlands. A graphical approach was used to explore trends in mortality by age, calendar period, and cohorts born in the successive periods of 1889 to 1979. Age-period-cohort modelling outcomes and population forecasts provided projections of mortality until 2045. Based on 24,151 cases of melanoma death (13,256 men, 10,895 women), age-standardised mortality rates were similar from 1950 to 1989 for both genders, and increased thereafter more in ine of mortality in younger generations can be expected in the Netherlands, but mortality is still rising for the total population.

Delirium is a common postoperative complication. Many studies have found that dexmedetomidine is associated with a reduced incidence of postoperative delirium (POD). This meta-analysis aimed to analyze the effects of dexmedetomidine on POD incidence among elderly patients undergoing general anesthesia.

We searched 4 electronic databases (i.e., Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane, and Web of Science) from inception to November 30, 2020, for randomized controlled trials that evaluated the effects of dexmedetomidine in preventing the occurrence of POD in elderly patients (aged ≥60 years). This study aimed to investigate the surface electromyography (sEMG) of the swallowing muscles, bilaterally, and the effect of RMT on swallowing muscles in stroke patients with respiratory muscle weakness.

Forty patients with first episode of unilateral stroke were included in this retrospective controlled trial. After exclusion of 11 patients with respiratory muscle strength stronger than 70% of the predicted value, 15 were allocated to the RMT group and 14 to the control group. This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic effects of ranibizumab and conbercept on wet age-related macular degeneration.

Randomized controlled trials comparing ranibizumab and conbercept in the treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration were searched in the PubMed, Medline, EMbase, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang databases, and Weipu Journal. Two reviewers independently extracted the data and assessed the methodological quality. Data analysis was performed using Rev Man 5.3 software for statistical analysis.

A total of 16 randomized controlled trials, including 1018 patients, were included, and the results showed that the effect of ranibizumab on uncorrected visual acuity was not significantly different from that of conbercept (Mean difference [MD] = -.03, 95% Confidence interval [CI] [-.10-.05], P = .47), and there was no significant difference between the two drugs in the effect on best-corrected visual acuity (MD = .00, 95% CI [-.02-.03], P = .73). Accumulated evidence have shown that plasmacytoma variant translocation 1 acts as an oncogene and tumor suppressor in various cancers. In fact, the rs13255292 and rs2608053 single nucleotide polymorphisms of plasmacytoma variant translocation 1are known to affect lymphoma; however, their effects on gastric cancer are primarily unknown. In this study, we evaluated the association between these plasmacytoma variant translocation 1 polymorphisms and the risk of gastric cancer.In the present study, 462 patients diagnosed with gastric cancer and 377 cancer-free controls were enrolled. The TaqMan genotyping assay was used to analyze the association between rs13255292 and rs2608053 single nucleotide polymorphisms and the risk of gastric cancer.The rs2608053 dominant model (CT + TT) was associated with a decreased risk of gastric cancer in T3 + T4 (odds = 0.33 - 0.98, P = .042) and stage III gastric cancer subgroups (OR = 0.49, 95% CI = 0.27 - 0.89, P = .020) compared to the CC genotype.The rs13255292 and rs2608053 single nucleotide polymorphisms in plasmacytoma variant translocation 1 may contribute to susceptibility of gastric cancer. Further studies with more subjects and different ethnic groups are needed to validate our results.

Globally, congenital cataract remains one of the main causes of visual loss in children. This study was designed to plot the overall research output and evaluate some key bibliometric indicators in congenital cataracts research.

Publications on congenital cataracts were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. The published literature was searched using the keywords "congenital cataract" OR "congenital cataracts" in the title filed with document types and language restrictions. The data were exported into HistCite to analyze; publication year, top authors, countries, institutions, journals, keywords, and most cited studies. VOSviewer software was used to construct network visualization mapping.

A total of 1427 publications (1903-2021) published in English language were included in this study. Over the past few decades, the total number of publications in congenital cataracts was found to be increased. The most productive year was 2016 (n = 72), while the most cited year was 1941 (1268 citations).
