Injected glucocorticoid's (corticosteroids) are commonly used in musculoskeletal practice. The current global COVID-19 pandemic has increased attention on the potential for locally injected corticosteroids to exert a systemic immunosuppressive effect and the implications this may have in relation to COVID-19 infection and vaccination.

This narrative review summarises the evidence regarding the potential systemic immunosuppressive effects of peripheral corticosteroid injections in relation to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

High OBP prevalence was greater when defined by AAP compared with ESH criteria (43.5% vs. 24.5%; p less then .001), while high HBPM prevalence was similar between Arsakeion and Goiânia criteria (33.5% and 37.5%; p = .34). Fifty-five percent of the sample fulfilled at least one criterion for high BP, but only 31% of this subsample accomplished all four criteria. Regardless of the HBPM criteria, AAP thresholds were associated with lower prevalence of normotension and masked hypertension and greater prevalence of white-coat and sustained hypertension than ESH thresholds. These findings support the need to standardize the definition of hypertension among adolescents.The association between pulse pressure and long-term mortality was investigated among acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients who received percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The study population included 5055 ACS patients in the Department of Cardiology of Beijing Friendship Hospital who were enrolled from January 2013 to July 2019. The median duration of follow-up was 24 months. Multivariate Cox regression was used to analyze the relationships between PP on inpatient admission and mortalities. Non-linear associations were studied by restricted cubic splines. Considering the heart function, the analyses were performed in the whole cohort and the LVEF > = 0.5 cohort separately. Subgroup analyses were performed according to the different diagnosis (the myocardial infarction subgroup and the unstable angina pectoris subgroup). When PP was used as categorical variable, the high PP group (≥61 mm Hg) significantly increased the risk of death compared with the intermediate PP group (50-60 mm Hg) in the both cohorts. When PP was used as continuous variable, a U-shape relationship were found between PP and mortalities in the whole cohort (p (for nonlinearity) = .005 and .003, respectively), with reference PP level of 55 mm Hg. However, this U-shape relationship disappeared in the LVEF > 0.5 cohort (p (for nonlinearity) = .111 and .117, respectively). The similar results were obtained in MI subgroup. From this study, the U-shape relationships between PP level and all-cause and cardiac mortalities were found in ACS patients who underwent PCI. The U-shape relationships disappeared in the LVEF > 0.5 cohort. The reference PP level was 55 mm Hg.Dating violence is a serious manifestation of harmful behaviour during adolescence. During the past decades, considerable research has shed light on patterns, causes, and consequences of dating violence. One of the most notable findings emerging from widely used survey instruments is that female adolescents report perpetrating physical dating violence more or equally frequently as male adolescents. Similarly, male youth appear to equally frequently report that they have been victims of physical dating violence as female adolescents. This commentary reviews issues emerging from the debate on gender symmetry in dating violence and proposes directions for future research. It suggests that future research needs to consider three interrelated issues to advance the field, namely to improve the understanding of differences in harm, advance the knowledge of gender differences in the short-term dynamics involved in conflict and aggression, and strengthen the evidence base on shared and gender-specific developmental aetiologies of dating violence.Radial stem growth dynamics at seasonal resolution are essential to understand how forests respond to climate change. We studied daily radial growth of 160 individuals of seven temperate tree species at 47 sites across Switzerland over 8 years. Growth of all species peaked in the early part of the growth season and commenced shortly before the summer solstice, but with species-specific seasonal patterns. Day length set a window of opportunity for radial growth. Within this window, the probability of daily growth was constrained particularly by air and soil moisture, resulting in intermittent growth to occur only on 29 to 77 days (30% to 80%) within the growth period. The number of days with growth largely determined annual growth, whereas the growth period length contributed less. In this article, intelligent and multifunctional e-skin consisting of laser-scribed graphene and polyurethane (PU) nanomesh is realized with high comfort. The e-skin can be used as a strain sensor with large measurement range (>60%), good sensitivity (GF≈40), high linearity range (60%), and excellent stability (>1000 cycles). By analyzing the morphology of e-skin, a parallel networks model is proposed to express the mechanism of the strain sensor. In addition, laser scribing is also applied to etch the insulating PU, which greatly decreases the impedance in detecting electrophysiology signals. Finally, the e-skin is applied to monitor the electrocardiogram, electroencephalogram (EEG), and electrooculogram signals. A time- and frequency-domain concatenated convolution neural network is built to analyze the EEG signal detected using the e-skin on the forehead and classify the attention level of testers.

To assess the prevalence of elevated liver enzymes and associated diabetes-related comorbidities in type 2 diabetes (T2D).

Between 2010 and 2019, 281 245 patients with T2D (aged 18-75 years) from 501 Diabetes Prospective Follow-up (DPV) centres were evaluated, resulting in analysis of 51 645 patients with complete data on demographics and liver enzymes.

Elevated liver enzymes were found in 40.2% of all patients. However, only 8.6% of these patients had International Classification of Diseases-10 codes for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and/or nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. Adjusted for age, sex, diabetes duration, body mass index and glycated haemoglobin, a higher prevalence of arterial hypertension (P < 0.0001), dyslipidaemia (P < 0.0001), peripheral artery disease (P=0.0029), myocardial infarction (P=0.0003), coronary artery disease (P=0.0001), microalbuminuria (P < 0.0001) and chronic kidney disease (P < 0.0001) was seen in patients with elevated versus normal liver enzymes. The prevalence of elevated liver enzymes was lowest in patients receiving sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors or a combination of SGLT2 inhibitors and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists.

The present study was performed to characterize the secondary metabolites and to evaluate the antimicrobial potential of different G. urbanum root and rhizome extracts. For this purpose, individual metabolites of fresh and fermented G. urbanum root and rhizome extracts were analyzed by HPLC-DAD-MSn and GC/MS. Among others, rare ellagitannin-sulfates could be characterized by LC/MSn . In addition, the antibacterial activity of various extracts of fresh and dried G. urbanum roots and rhizomes against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538) and Cutibacterium acnes (CP033842.1; FDAARGOS 503 chromosome) were assessed and compared to that of G. rivale.
