There is a dilemma whether the Chernobyl accident is the main source of this anthropogenic radionuclide in the region of Vojvodina, Northern Province of Serbia. The difference compared to the other dominant source of radiocaesium in the environment, the nuclear weapon tests, is lying in the local character of contamination due to accidents, which implies it's highly dependent on meteorological parameters, such as precipitation and wind in the area at that time. According to published data, the average value of surface contamination by radiocaesium on the territory of the former Yugoslavia after the Chernobyl accident was several times higher than the estimated contamination by nuclear testing (1945-1963). The main aim of this research is to explore possible correlations of the spatial distribution of precipitation from April 1986 to December 1987 with the deposition of radiocaesium in the surface soil to justify this claim in the absence of data on caesium deposition before the Chernobyl accident for the Vojvodina region. The database of 137Cs content in Vojvodina soil and precipitation for this region during the timeframe of interest were used. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/blu9931.html From a total of 245 precipitation stations in Vojvodina, 164 to 244 precipitation stations were selected for analysis in conditionals from different time scale aspects and data validation. The best correlation between amounts of total precipitation and 137Cs content in surface soil obtained for two rainy periods 2nd-5th and 7th-21st May 1986. In spite of various techniques employed for nanoparticle synthesis such as laser ablation, mechanical milling, spinning and chemical deposition, usage of hazardous chemicals and expensiveness of the process makes it unsuitable for the continuous production. Hence the necessity of sustainable, economic and environment friendly approach development have increased in recent years. Microbial synthesis of nanoparticles connecting microbiology and nanotechnology is one of the green techniques employed for sustainable production. Gold, silver and other metal nanoparticles like platinum, palladium, molybdenum nanoparticles biosynthesis by bacteria, fungi, yeast and algae have been reported in the present review. On account of microbial rich community, several microbes have been explored for the production of nanoparticles. Nanoparticles are also employed for environmental remediation processes such as pollutant removal and detection of contaminants. Lack of monodispersity and prolonged duration of synthesis are the limitations of bio-synthesis process which can be overcome by optimization of methods of microbial cultivation and its extraction techniques. The current review describes the different microbes involved in the synthesis of nanoparticles and its environmental applications.This investigation was aimed to identify microplastics in the sediment and mudskipper fish (Periophthalmus waltoni) in mangrove forests in southern Iran. Sediments and mudskipper samples were collected at high, mid, and low tidal points of five stations. A total of 2657 plastic particles in different size, color, shape, and genera were identified from sediment samples and 15 microplastic were isolated from mudskippers. The highest and lowest abundance of isolated microplastics from sediments was observed in mangrove forests of Bidkhoun (urban area) and Bordkhon, respectively while no microplastics were found in the fish tissue in those stations. The black (60%) and white (7%) color microplastics in the mudskipper had the highest and the lowest frequency. The highest and lowest polymers in mangrove forest sediments were corresponded to polystyrene (26%) and polycarbonate (3%), respectively. Raman and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) techniques were used to identify the type of the polymer. Most of the microplastics found were made of polystyrene, polypropylene, and polyethylene terephthalate. The type of studied area and texture of sediment separately affected the frequency of microplastic and mesoplastic (P-value less then 0.05) in the sediment samples. The abundance of microplastics in the sediment samples of the Bidkhoun mangrove forest was higher than other studied stations due to proximity to urban and industrial areas. The findings of this study raised concerns about microplastic pollution in the mangrove forests of southern Iran, a threat to the ecosystem and public health, which requires careful actions to prevent and diminish its adverse effects.

The prevalence of type 2 diabetes is alarmingly increasing around the world and its impact exceeds the predictions made by WHO in the early 2000s. Today there is growing scientific evidence that exposure to endocrine disruptors and mainly POPs can contribute to the development of type 2 diabetes. The main objective of this case-control study is to assess the link between the plasma levels of certain chlorinated persistent organic pollutants, and the prevalence of type 2 diabetes in the general population of Algeria.

The study was conducted on 361 subjects, to whom the plasma levels of selected biomarkers were determined on GC-MS. A logistic regression was performed to examine the prevalence of diabetes in the POPs categories, considering sex, age, BMI, family history of diabetes, smoking and hypertension.

Diabetic subjects had higher plasma concentrations of POPs than non-diabetic subjects. After adjusting for the known risk factors for type 2 diabetes in Algeria, the risk expressed in OR (95% CI) was 12.58 (4.76-33.26) for 4,4'DDE, 3.69 (1.90-7.15) for HCB and 2.28 (1.20-4.39) PCB153. PCB138 and PCB180 showed no significant risk.
