Kinetic data also indicated a good correlation with pseudo-second-order model. The highest adsorption capacity was estimated as 107.33 and 105.2 mg/g for Hg (II) and TNP, respectively. Accordingly, the proposed m-GO-NH2 can be a promising adsorbent for the elimination of metal and organic contaminants.Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a biopolymer with applications in different areas such as medicine and cosmetics. HA is currently either isolated from animal sources or produced by microbial fermentation. Animal HA presents some disadvantages such as high cost and risk of viral cross-species or another infectious agent. In the present study, we evaluated the physicochemical characteristics and in vitro antioxidant capacity of HA produced by Streptococcus zooepidemicus CCT 7546. In addition, commercial sodium hyaluronate (SH) from an animal source was used as control. The microbial HA yield after purification was 69.8 mg/L. According to Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, it was seen that bacterial and animal HA spectra are overlapped. The thermogravimetric analysis revealed that microbial HA was more stable than its equivalent from the animal source. However, scanning electron microscopy indicates that the purification method used in the animal product was more effective. Microbial HA showed activity in total antioxidant capacity (14.02 ± 0.38%), reducing power (18.18 ± 6.43%), DPPH radical-scavenging (5.57 ± 0.23 kmol TE/g), and hydroxyl radical-scavenging (28.39 ± 2.40%) tests. Therefore, in vitro antioxidant tests demonstrated that the antioxidant action mechanism occurs through scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) and donating electrons/hydrogen atoms.
The Sensory Profile-2 (SP-2) is the recently revised set of scales that provide information about a child's responses to different types of sensory stimuli.
To examine the methodological quality and psychometric properties of the SP-2 using the Consensus-based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) and Quality Criteria for Health Status Questionnaires (QCHSQ).
The methodological quality and psychometric properties for each of the SP-2 scales were examined by two assessors using the COSMIN and QCHSQ.
The COSMIN revealed that the SP-2 demonstrated strengths in patient-related outcome measure design and internal consistency. However, hypothesis testing, cross-cultural validity and structural validity (construct validity) were notable shortcomings. The QCHSQ indicated the SP-2 has merits in its content validity and construct validity. The SP-2 manual reported insufficient evidence of its responsiveness, interpretability and criterion validity.
Informed assessment selection is fundamental for evidence-based and quality occupational therapy practice provision. Overall, the SP-2 is considered to have adequate psychometric properties, however users should be mindful of the identified shortcomings.
The review and critique of the SP-2 adds to the body of knowledge about the revised instrument and provides an objective perspective about its strengths and weaknesses.

Confabulations refer to the emergence of memories of experiences and events that are incorrect in place and time, or never took place. In alcoholic Korsakoff's syndrome, confabulations have been frequently reported, but seldomly been investigated. Traditional reports on confabulations state that confabulations in KS mainly occur in the post-acute phase of the illness. The aim of the study was to investigate whether confabulations extinguish in KS.
An observational rating of confabulation behaviour (the NVCL-R) was completed for 172 KS patients with alcoholic KS. Post-acute and chronic KS patients were compared cross-sectionally in two centres.
Provoked and spontaneous confabulations were present in post-acute and chronic patients. Patients residing in a long-term care facility more often presented themselves with spontaneous confabulations than patients in a diagnostic centre.
In contrast to the traditional view, confabulations may be present throughout the course of KS, and are possibly more frequentnal approach would help the confirmation of finding no decline in confabulations over time.GEM Premier ChemSTAT is a whole-blood analyzer designed for providing a rapid basic metabolic panel, inclusive of creatinine and blood urea nitrogen, with the unique characteristic of providing measured bicarbonate (HCO3-) levels. The aim of this work was to evaluate the clinical performance of HCO3- assessment with this analyser in a real-life hemodialysis setting. Imprecision was calculated at different HCO3- levels, along with assay comparison with Gem Premier 4000 analysers. GEM Premier ChemSTAT displayed an imprecision and a bias (in comparison to GEM Premier 4000) for HCO3- of 0.4% and 37.3% at 20.8 mmol/L, 1.2% and 25.6% at 16.4 mmol/L, and 2.1% and 11.6% at 11.5 mmol/L, respectively, using three levels of HCO3- quality control sample ChemSTAT System Evaluator. At direct comparison with the GEM Premier 4000 in the hemodialysis setting, Bland-Altman analysis of HCO3- levels evidenced a bias (µ) of -4.9 (95% CI, -5.2 to -4.7) mmol/L. Such difference was attenuated by recalculating the GEM ChemSTAT expected HCO3- values from pH and pCO2 using the Henderson Hasselbach equation, µ=-0.07 (95%CI, -0.19 to 0.05) mmol/L (p = .24). In conclusion, our results show a remarkable difference between the HCO3- values reported by GEM ChemSTAT or GEM 4000. New reference values for GEM ChemSTAT HCO3- shall hence be defined according to our findings. We suggest that further investigation and a re-evaluation of the reference range should be made before extending the clinical use of this device. Objectives Acute-on-chronic hepatitis B liver failure (ACHBLF) is characterized by high short-term mortality, calling for accurate prognostic biomarkers. This study aims to evaluate the predictive value of serum exosomal long noncoding RNA nuclear-enriched abundant transcript 1 (lncRNA NEAT1) for 90-day mortality of ACHBLF.Methods This prospective study consisted of 113 ACHBLF patients from June 2013 to June 2017 as a training cohort and 72 ACHBLF patients from July 2017 to June 2020 as a validating cohort. LncRNA NEAT1 was detected using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction from serum exosomes. Results LncRNA NEAT1 levels were higher in non-survivors than survivors (P 0.05). ACHBLF patients with lncRNA NEAT1 levels above 1.92 showed poorer survival condition than those below (P less then 0.01).Conclusions The serum exosomal lncRNA NEAT1 might be a better prognostic biomarker than MELD score for 90-day mortality of ACHBLF.
Oral health is closely related to extra-oral disease status, as may be represented by the manifestations of gastrointestinal and liver diseases.
This review focuses on the roles that the oral-gut or the oral-gut-liver axis play in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, metabolic fatty liver disease, and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. The discussion will begin with clinical data, including data from preclinical animal models, to elucidate mechanisms. We will also discuss ways to target oral dysbiosis and oral inflammation to treat gastrointestinal and liver diseases.
Several studies have demonstrated that oral pathobionts can translocate to the gastrointestinal tract where they contribute to inflammation and tumorigenesis. Furthermore, oral bacteria that migrate to the gastrointestinal tract can disseminate to the liver and cause hepatic disease. Thus, oral bacteria that ectopically colonize the intestine may serve as biomarkers for gastrointestinal and liver diseases. Also, understanding the characteristics of the oral-gut and oral-gut-liver microbial and immune axes will provide new insights into the pathogenesis of these diseases.

Doxycycline is one of the most prescribed antibiotics by dermatologists. However, the concern regarding adverse events of doxycyline has been rising.
To detect the adverse events of doxycycline using the Korea Adverse Events Reporting System (KAERS) database from January 2014 to December 2018 through a data mining method.
A signal was defined as one satisfying all three indices; a proportional reporting ratio, a reporting odds ratio, and an information component. We further checked whether the detected signals exist in drug labels in Korea and five developed countries, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Japan.
A total of 3,365,186 adverse event-drug pairs were reported and of which 3,075 were associated with doxycycline. Among the thirty-seven signals, nineteen (malaise, ileus, confusion, malignant neoplasm, ectopic pregnancy, ovarian hyperstimulation, vaginal hemorrhage, bone necrosis, acne, rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, folliculitis, skin ulceration, crusting, dry skin, paronychia, mottled skin, application site reaction, and application site edema) were not included on any of the drug labels of the six countries.
We identified nineteen new doxycycline signals that did not appear on drug labels in six countries. Further studies are warranted to evaluate the causality of the adverse events with doxycycline.

Endocrine Mucin-Producing Sweat Gland Carcinoma is a rare, under-reported cutaneous adnexal tumor that is often misdiagnosed and has an unknown incidence of metastasis.
To determine the incidence of metastasis and tumor recurrence, as well as diagnostic accuracy and current trends in treatment modality.
A search was performed following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Tumor pathology and clinical data concerning demographics, presentation, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up were assessed.
A total of 36 publications with 110 cases were identified. Initial pathological diagnosis was incorrect in 45.5% of cases. One case of metastatic disease was reported. The incidence of locoregional recurrence was 10.6% over a mean follow-up period of 21.3 months. Of cases with known methods of resection, 34.6% were resected by excisional biopsy, 42.8% were resected by wide surgical excision, and 31.3% were cleared by Mohs micrographic surgery.
The low reported incidence and level of evidence was suboptimal with only case reports and retrospective case studies being reported.
Reported cases of this pathology demonstrate poor diagnostic accuracy. High rates of misdiagnosis and inadequate definitive treatment suggest the need for more comprehensive work-up and management of lesions suspicious for this pathology.
