Ranging from sequencing techniques to PCR-based methods and other more complex strategies, this approach, currently applicable in some solid tumors with robust evidence, is showing promising opportunities in other cancers. However, difficulties in validating their clinical utility exist within limitation at different levels among several techniques, reporting of the results, lack of appropriate clinical trial designs, and unknown economic impact. The aim of this review and meta-analysis was to summarize the effects of controlled clinical trials examining the influence of IF and ERD on lipid profiles. Methods A systematic review of four independent databases (PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar) was performed to identify clinical trials reporting the effects of IF or ERD, relative to non-diet controls, on lipid profiles in humans. A random-effects model, employing the method of DerSimonian and Laird, was used to evaluate effect sizes, and results were expressed as weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Heterogeneity between studies was calculated using Higgins I2, with values ≥50% considered to represent high heterogeneity. Subgroup analyses were performed to examine the influence of intto a non-diet control, IF and ERD are effective for the improvement of circulating TC, LDL-C, and TG concentrations, but have no meaningful effects on HDL-C concentration. These effects are influenced by several factors that may inform clinical practice and future research. Numerous supplements claim cardioprotection and reduction of cardiovascular risk factors, but the roles of many supplements have not been determined. In the vast number of supplements on the market asserting cardioprotective effects, only 3 have been thoroughly evaluated and consistently reported as effective by our clinic patients. They have used supplements such as fish oil, multivitamins, and calcium, but many had not known of the benefits of resveratrol, curcumin, and nitric oxide as supplements for improving cardiovascular health. The cardioprotective effects of these dietary supplements in both animal models and humans have been explored with proposed mechanisms of action mostly attributed to antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Resveratrol is one of the most studied polyphenols with established cardiovascular benefits. Preclinical studies have demonstrated these effects exerted via improved inflammatory markers, atherogenic profile, glucose metabolism, and endothelial function and are further supported by clinical trials. Curcumin has a well-established anti-inflammatory role by regulating numerous transcription factors and cytokines linked to inflammation. Inflammation is an underlying pathology in cardiovascular diseases, rendering curcumin a potential therapeutic compound. Similarly, nitric oxide supplementation has demonstrated cardiovascular benefits by normalizing blood pressure; enhancing blood flow; and reducing inflammation, immune dysfunction, and oxidative stress. Transplant centers routinely collect more than one peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) graft. However, subsequent HD-CHT/ABSCT treatments are often not performed for a variety of reasons. Currently, little is known about the actual utilization rate of stored PBSCs. The collection, storage and disposal of PBSC products was analyzed in a large cohort of MM patients (n=1,114) during a 12-year period with a minimum follow-up time of 6 years. The final data set analysis was performed in March 2019, which was set as the reference date. Based on institution-specific charges, an estimation of the costs for PBSC collection/processing and storage was performed. The median number of sufficient PBSC transplants per patient was 3ical questions. Despite this wealth of research, the association between laterality and cognitive abilities in the cat (Felis catus) is not well understood. Therefore, it was the aim of the present study to investigate the relationship between laterality and problem-solving ability in cats. To this end, strength and direction of paw preferences in 41 cats were measured using two novel food reaching tasks in which the animals needed to open a lid in order to reach the food reward. We found that cats that showed a clear preference for one paw were able to open more lids succesfully than ambilateral animals. Moreover, cats that preferred to interact with the test apparatus with their paw from the beginning, opened more lids than cats the first tried to interact with the test apparatus using their heads. Results also suggested a predictive validity of the first paw usage for general paw usage. It was also shown that the cats' individual paw preferences were stable and task-independent. These results yield further support to the idea that lateralization may enhance cognitive abilities.The first ever venous thrombotic condition associated with spaceflight, an internal jugular vein thrombus requiring anticoagulation, has recently been reported. Systematic investigation of space travel-associated thrombotic risk has not been conducted. Cellular, animal, and human studies performed in ground-based models and in actual weightlessness revealed influences of weightlessness and gravity on the blood coagulation system. However, human study populations were small and limited to highly selected participants. Evidence in individuals with medical conditions and older persons is lacking. Evidence for thrombotic risk in spaceflight is unsatisfactory. This issue deserves further study in heterogeneous, high risk populations to find prevention strategies and to enable safe governmental and touristic human spaceflight.
