The 2019 ECTRIMS Congress, in Stockholm, has had record-breaking figures for both attendance and scientific production. There were 9361 participants from 100 different countries for a total of 1541 abstracts. Upon invitation of the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) executive committee, the authors of this meeting report assessed abstracts from all poster and oral presentations for novelty, scientific quality and relevance for basic and clinical multiple sclerosis (MS) research. The objective of this report is to highlight a selection of basic, translational and clinical studies out of the many outstanding projects that were presented. Abstracts and references cited in our report were chosen at the discretion of the authors and all co-authors and the ECTRIMS executive committee agreed on the selection. In the event of discrepancies between the abstract and the uploaded poster or presentation, we aimed to present data derived from the poster or presentation. All abstracts are accessible through the ECTRIMS online library ( https//onlinelibrary.ectrimscongress.eu/ectrims/#!*menu=36*browseby=3*sortby=2*ce_id=160 ) and also published in this journal (Volume 25 Issue 2_suppl, September 2019; https//journals.sagepub.com/toc/msja/25/2_suppl ). A few additional references from the literature were added but were restricted to the ones that authors considered as absolutely required for an optimized understanding of the topics highlighted.Isolated distal deep vein thromboses (IDDVT) represent up to 50 % of legs deep vein thromboses (DVT). However, since their natural history is to date unknown, the need to diagnose and treat them is a matter of debate. The diagnostic strategy based on the assessment of pre-test probability and D-dimer demonstrated a scarse efficiency for IDDVT. The choice between a proximal and a complete ultrasonographic approach should be guided by the clinical context, the local expertise and the patient characteristics. Randomized and observational studies have analyzed the need of therapy and compared different regimens of anticoagulation, with conflicting results. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses tend to support the usefulness of an anticoagulant treatment, even if the optimal dose and duration are not still defined. A careful stratification of the patient's profile, taking into account risk factors for proximal extension, recurrence and bleeding should address the therapeutic approach, which must always be discussed with an adequately informed patient. Further studies aimed to clarify the natural history of IDDVT, and to assess safety and efficacy of lower intensity and shorter duration protocols are urgently needed.Post-catheterization pseudoaneurysms are a well-known complication of many endovascular procedures at the site of arterial puncture. However, long-term neurological complications due to undiagnosed compression are rare. A 60-year-old man presented to our unit for round, non-pulsatile, painless swelling in the inner side of his upper arm. Clinical examination showed finger paralysis, associated with amyotrophy of the forearm. Large brachial pseudoaneurysm with median nerve compression was diagnosed. The patient underwent autologous vein bypass, with poor 6-month neurological recovery. Early diagnosis of pseudoaneurysms is paramount because, when associated with nerve compression, the longer the diagnostic delay, the poorer the neurological prognosis.Although anxiety symptoms/disorders are consistently implicated in smoking processes, no empirical work has identified individual difference factors that may underlie such relations among Latinx smokers. The current study examined anxiety sensitivity as an explanatory factor underlying the relationship between anxiety symptoms and smoking expectancies among Spanish-speaking Latinx smokers. Participants included 363 Spanish-speaking Latinx daily smokers (58.7% female, Mage = 33.3 years, SD = 9.81). Results indicated that anxiety symptoms had a significant indirect effect on positive and negative smoking expectancies through anxiety sensitivity. Such findings suggest that anxiety sensitivity is relevant to understanding the anxiety-smoking expectancies association among Latinx smokers.Spina bifida has been reported to co-occur with pediatric cancer, but comprehensive evaluations remained elusive. We investigated this co-occurrence in two large, population-based studies in Taiwan (N = 1900 cancer cases, 2,077,137 controls) and Denmark (N = 5508 cases, 137,700 controls). Analyses in Denmark were restricted to the period before prenatal diagnostics became available (2004) and pregnancy terminations of fetuses with birth defects became more common. Cisplatinum Using national patient and cancer registries, we linked spina bifida and cancer diagnoses among cases and non-cases. The risk of spina bifida among all cancer cases was increased and similar in Denmark [odds ratio (OR)=8.4, 95% confidence interval (CI) 5.1-13.8] and Taiwan (OR = 8.5, 95% CI 4.0-17.8), particularly for central nervous system (CNS) tumors (Denmark OR = 16.3, 95% CI 8.1-33.0; Taiwan OR = 26.6, 95% CI 8.5, 83.1), including benign CNS tumors (Denmark OR = 41.5, 95% CI 21.2, 81.4). These findings suggest the need for comprehensive investigation of shared risk factors in the link between spina bifida and pediatric cancer.Postpartum distress increases the risk of developing mental disorders over a woman's lifespan. Although immigrant women experience a high rate of postpartum depression, we know very little about the psychosocial experiences of postpartum distress in immigrant populations. No theories have been developed to account for the intersection of cultural and maternal transitions or the relationship of this dual transition to postpartum distress. Therefore, this study aims to generate a conceptual model for describing immigrant women's experience of and social-psychological responses to postpartum distress. This study uses grounded theory to conduct and analyze interviews with 22 Chinese immigrant women who experienced postpartum distress. During their dual transitions, participants encountered many losses significant to their psychological self. The conceptual model of greyscaling and reviving the psychological self provides pathways to respond to these losses, assesses the pathways' impact on experiencing distress, and offers strategies that resolve distress.
