A proportion of women undergoing mastectomy for breast cancer choose to undergo breast reconstruction. Evidence suggests that women's preparedness for this surgery is low and that this may contribute to feelings of unmatched expectations and anxiety. There is substantial interest in decision-aids to remedy this. This study explores the incorporation of digitally rendered three-dimensional images into pre-operative counselling sessions as a means of enhancing patient preparedness.

A database of three-dimensional images was produced showing both optimal and sub-optimal aesthetic outcome, matched to participant on the basis of type of surgical reconstruction, body habitus, and skin tone. Women undergoing mastectomy for breast cancer followed by immediate reconstruction were targeted for inclusion. Participants interacted with image software during pre-operative counselling sessions by viewing, rotating, and zooming in/out to gain a more in-depth appreciation of post-operative aesthetic outcome. Semi-structurly valued the ability to use the software to generate a more realistic idea of what to expect after their operation. Future work should focus on better understanding any quantifiable benefit from incorporating three-dimensional images routinely into pre-operative decision-making.

It has been found that up-regulation of histone deacetylases 1 (HDAC1) is involved in the development of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). However, it is still unclear whether inhibition of HDAC1 suppresses the development of PAH via restoring miR-34a level in monocrotaline (MCT)-induced PAH rats.

PAH rat models were induced by intraperitoneal injection of MCT. HDAC1 was suppressed by intraperitoneal injection of the class I HDAC inhibitor MS-275, and miR-34a was over-expressed via tail vein injection of miR-34a agomiR.

HDAC1 protein was significantly increased in MCT-induced PAH rats; this was accompanied with down-regulation of miR-34a and subsequent up-regulation of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9)/tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP-1) and MMP-2/TIMP-2. Administration of PAH rats with MS-275 or miR-34a agomiR dramatically abolished MCT-induced reduction of miR-34a and subsequent up-regulation of MMP-9/TIMP-1 and MMP-2/TIMP-2, finally reduced extracellular matrix (ECM) accumulation, pulmonary arterial remodeling, right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP) and right ventricle hypertrophy index (RVHI) in PAH rats.

We describe a 67-year-old woman who developed an undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma in her thigh. Despite treatment with standard chemotherapy regimens, she had a rapidly progressive course of disease with pulmonary metastases and passed away 8months from diagnosis with pulmonary complications. Her medical history was remarkable in that she had a spheno-occipital chordoma at age 39 and later developed multiple other tumors throughout her life including Hodgkin lymphoma and squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma of the skin. She had a family history of chordoma and her family underwent extensive genetic study in the past and were found to have a duplication of the TBXT gene.

The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly impacted people's lives across a broad spectrum of psychosocial domains. We report the development and psychometric evaluation of the self-report COVID-19 Pandemic Mental Health Questionnaire (CoPaQ), which assesses COVID-19 contamination anxiety, countermeasure necessity and compliance, mental health impact, stressor impact, social media usage, interpersonal conflicts, paranoid ideations, institutional & political trust, conspiracy beliefs, and social cohesion. Further, we illustrate the questionnaire's utility in an applied example investigating if higher SARS-Cov-2 infection rates in psychiatric patients could be explained by reduced compliance with preventive countermeasures.

FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT) and TERMINAL FLOWER1 (TFL1) have been identified as closely related eukaryotic phosphatidylethanolamine-binding proteins ('EuPEBPs') that integrate multiple environmental stimuli, and act antagonistically to determine the optimal timing of the floral transition. There have been dozens of strikes by health workers in Kenya in the past decade, but there are few studies of their impact on maternal andchild health services and outcomes. We conducted a retrospective survey study to assess the impact of nationwide strikes by health workers in 2017 on utilization of maternal andchild health services in western Kenya.

We utilized a parent study to enroll women who were pregnant in 2017 when there were prolonged strikes by health workers ("strike group") and women who were pregnant in 2018 when there were no major strikes ("control group"). Trained research assistants administered a close-ended survey to retrospectively collect demographic and pregnancy-related health utilization and outcomes data. Data were collected between March and July 2019. The primary outcomes of interest were antenatal care (ANC) visits, delivery location, and early child immunizations. Generalized estimating equations were used to estimate risk ratios between the strike and control groups, adjustl child health services. Strategies to maintain these services during strikes are urgently needed.
