Background Green micro-alga, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii (a Chlorophyte), can be cultured in the laboratory heterotrophically or photo-heterotrophically in Tris- Phosphate- Acetate (TAP) medium, which contains acetate as the carbon source. Chlamydomonas can convert acetate in the TAP medium to glucose via the glyoxylate cycle, a pathway present in many microbes and higher plants. A novel bacterial strain, CC4533, was isolated from a contaminated TAP agar medium culture plate of a Chlamydomonas wild type strain. In this article, we present our research on the isolation, and biochemical and molecular characterizations of CC4533. Methods We conducted several microbiological tests and spectrophotometric analyses to biochemically characterize CC4533. The 16S rRNA gene of CC4533 was partially sequenced for taxonomic identification. We monitored the growth of CC4533 on Tris-Phosphate (TP) agar medium (lacks a carbon source) containing different sugars, aromatic compounds and saturated hydrocarbons, to see if CC4533 cal bioremediation. Clinical staging, prognostic scoring, and initial treatment strategies have historically been based on paradigms developed in B-cell lymphomas. Despite primary treatment protocols that are typically anthracycline-based and frequently involve consolidative autologous stem cell transplantation in first remission, many patients develop disease progression. There remains a high unmet medical need for improved treatment strategies in the relapsed or refractory setting. Salvage chemotherapy and stem cell transplantation in those who are suitable has traditionally been the accepted approach, but this remains a minority of the total patient population. As increasing knowledge is gleaned regarding the biological heterogeneity within the various PTCL subtypes, newer targeted agents have been developed, studied, and approved in this small, heterogeneous population of relapsed or refractory disease. Given its success and tolerability in this pretreated population, brentuximab vedotin, an anti-CD30 antibody drug conjugate, was brought earlier in the disease course and is a model for advances in the targeted treatment of PTCL. As others undergo further development in the relapsed setting and successes are brought earlier in the disease course, the outcome for PTCL patients is likely to improve. However, innovative clinical trial designs are crucial for the assessment of targeted agents in this highly heterogeneous population. This review explores the current treatment environment for patients with relapsed and refractory PTCL, including newer strategies such as targeted agents and immunotherapy.Endometriosis of the abdominal wall is a rare entity, the etiopathogenesis remains unclear. It most often occurs after gynecological or obstetric surgery. We report the case of a patient with a dual localization of endometriosis in the abdominal wall, the diagnosis was made by abdominal CT scan. The treatment was surgical. The pathology study confirmed the diagnosis of parietal endometriosis. The postoperative course was uneventful with a favorable outcome for 2 years without recurrence. Through our case, we will discuss the characteristics of this entity in order to understand the interest of an early diagnosis and management to deduce possible means of prevention during each gynecological or obstetric surgery.Primary sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis (SEP) is an idiopathic and rare condition characterized by chronic peritoneal inflammation. We describe the case of an intraoperative diagnosis of SEP, presenting as a mimicker of small bowel obstruction. The patient was a 59-year-old male with suspected small bowel obstruction. On exploratory laparotomy, it was noted that there was thick fibrous tissue involving the visceral and parietal peritoneum enveloping grossly dilated loops of small bowel. This case reports on the histopathological features of peritoneal biopsies as well as radiological findings. There is no consensus regarding the standard management for idiopathic SEP. The present case demonstrates a significant improvement in the patient's condition with conservative management alone. A critical teaching point is that in the absence of an obvious cause, SEP is a rare but important differential diagnosis for surgeons to consider in the context of recurrent bowel obstruction.Amyand's hernia in a child is a very rare entity. It poses a diagnostic challenge to the surgeon due to its variety of presentation. We are presenting a case of a 5-year-old child who presented to our institute with right-sided irreducible inguinal hernia. On exploration, the content of the hernia was caecum with normal appendix for which herniotomy with appendectomy was done.Synovitis, acne, pustulosis, hyperostosis and osteitis (SAPHO) syndrome has been proposed to describe a clinicoradiological entity manifesting in the joints, skin and bones. We describe a patient with SAPHO syndrome for whom bilateral tonsillectomy was effective for the treatment of arthralgia, which was quantified using multiple pain scales.The introduction of breast conservation surgery together with advances in oncoplastic techniques has revolutionized the management of retroareolar breast tumours. Traditionally, cancers in this location were often managed with central excision and primary closure or mastectomy. More recently, oncoplastic breast-conserving techniques such as the Grisotti mammoplasty have been increasingly encouraged as an alternative option as it allows oncological safe margin resections while restoring cosmesis. The use of a Grisotti flap enables safe resection of a retroareolar tumour with concurrent reconstruction of the defect using a local rotational advancement dermoglandular flap allowing a satisfactory cosmetic result in term of contour and projection. This technique is often limited to those patients with sufficient native nipple-inferior mammary fold (IMF) distance to accommodate for some inevitable post-operative reduction in this distance. We describe a modification of the original description, such that satisfactory cosmetic outcome can be achieved, even in patients with a short nipple areolar complex to inframammary fold distance.Transverse colon volvulus is an extremely rare cause of bowel obstruction with approximately 100 cases reported in literature. Transverse colon volvulus presents with signs and symptoms of large bowel obstruction, but it can become a surgical emergency due to bowel infarction or peritonitis. We present a rare case of transverse colon volvulus in a 36-year-old male patient with severe autism. We hope this case report will raise awareness of this disease.
In order to provide evidence for improving the quality of managers in elderly care institutions, this paper explored the situation of managers of elderly care institutions in a city in Central China under the national guidelines for the combination of medical and elderly health care.
A cross-sectional study carried out in a city in Central China was designed.
. The online questionnaire was distributed to the managers of six elderly care institutions in a city in Central China.
. The questionnaire was sent to 61 recipients; from this, 60 responses were obtained.
There was a 98% response rate. The study found that most managers in elderly care institutions were middle-aged, with low education level and years of management. The job mobility was high, and 27% of the managers had no relevant certificates. Management years had a significant influence on the rate of certificate holding (
< 0.05). Some managers were less than 30 years old and had college degree or above, which indicated that people witose who pass the examination, the number of local nurses for the elderly will be increasing, and the quality of the elderly care service will be improving.
Specialized training and high salary should be provided for managers to improve their elderly care skills and hence the quality of elderly care service. In addition, in order to improve the education level of managers, a long-term continuing education system should be established gradually. Through expanding the enrollment scale of the nursing school, carrying out training about elderly care skills, and issuing vocational skills certificates to those who pass the examination, the number of local nurses for the elderly will be increasing, and the quality of the elderly care service will be improving.Precision teaching (PT) involves shaping increases in frequencies during frequency-building interventions (Dembek & Kubina, Reading Improvement, 55(3), 93-105, 2018) toward an optimal frequency level, or aim. However, common PT reinforcement systems, such as celeration aim lines and personal best, result in very lean schedules of reinforcement if exceptions are not made to the rules. Therefore, a schedule that could shift in the density of reinforcement and the requirement of delivery based on a learner's current behavior is warranted for learners who require more frequent reinforcement. Galbicka (Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 27(4), 739-760, 1994) outlined a systematic approach to bringing objectivity into the art of shaping. The percentile schedules of reinforcement met the 4 requirements for shaping, with PT bringing even more clarity to the fourth requirement of a discrete terminal response. The current article serves as a tutorial on how to incorporate a sophisticated and objective shaping preparation into various PT interventions.
Interleukin-16 (IL-16) is a chemotactic cytokine that is found to increase in Cancer and cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in
were associated with diseases. Thus, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate possible associations between
rs4778889, rs11556218, rs4072111, and rs1131445 SNPs and the risk for cancer or CVD.
This study was performed according to the PRISMA statement. Medline, Web of Science, and Scopus databases were systematically reviewed, and a meta-analysis was conducted.
The analysis comprised 6386 individuals with cancer and 2415 with CVD. The SNP rs11556218 was significantly associated with an increased risk for cancer in Chinese in different genetic inheritance models. Also, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first meta-analysis to show an association of rs4778889 with an increased risk of gastric cancer and rs11556218 with an increased risk of CVD in Chinese.
Our meta-analysis suggested that the SNPs rs11556218 and rs4778889 of
were associated with an increased risk for cancer in Chinese and rs11556218 with increased risk for CVD in Chinese, highlighting the need for further studies on the impact of these polymorphisms on cancer treatment and surveillance.
