Not applicable.To identify and validate the neural signatures of resting-state oscillatory connectivity for chronic migraine (CM), we used machine learning techniques to classify patients with CM from healthy controls (HC) and patients with other pain disorders. The cross-sectional study obtained resting-state magnetoencephalographic data from 240 participants (70 HC, 100 CM, 35 episodic migraine [EM], and 35 fibromyalgia [FM]). Source-based oscillatory connectivity of relevant cortical regions was calculated to determine intrinsic connectivity at 1-40 Hz. A classification model that employed a support vector machine was developed using the magnetoencephalographic data to assess the reliability and generalizability of CM identification. In the findings, the discriminative features that differentiate CM from HC were principally observed from the functional interactions between salience, sensorimotor, and part of the default mode networks. The classification model with these features exhibited excellent performance in distinguishing patients with CM from HC (accuracy ≥ 86.8%, area under the curve (AUC) ≥ 0.9) and from those with EM (accuracy 94.5%, AUC 0.96). The model also achieved high performance (accuracy 89.1%, AUC 0.91) in classifying CM from other pain disorders (FM in this study). These resting-state magnetoencephalographic electrophysiological features yield oscillatory connectivity to identify patients with CM from those with a different type of migraine and pain disorder, with adequate reliability and generalizability.We previously demonstrated that in an isolated brainstem-spinal cord preparation from neonatal rats, a local bath application of strychnine (a broad antagonist of glycine and GABAA receptors) to the spinal cord enhances thoracic inspiratory motor activity. Herein, to investigate the involvement of the inspiratory spinal interneurons that provide excitatory input to the motoneuron, we conducted calcium imaging using this preparation. Oregon Green 488 BAPTA-1 AM, a fluorescent calcium indicator, was injected into the ventromedial surface of the thoracic cord. In all cells that showed inspiratory-related fluorescence changes > 2% of the baseline fluorescence intensity, the inspiratory-related fluorescence change decreased when the focal depth was deepened. The application of strychnine to the spinal cord increased the inspiratory-related intracellular calcium rise in these cells. These results suggest that the enhancement of inspiratory interneuron activity could be involved in this enhancement of inspiratory motor activity.

The black-crowned night heron (Nycticorax nycticorax) is an ardeid bird successfully adapted to the nocturnal environment. Previous studies had indicated that the eyes of the night herons have evolved several specialized morphological traits favoring nocturnal vision. However, the molecular mechanisms of the nocturnal vision adaptation of night herons remained inattentions. In this study, the whole genome of N. nycticorax was sequenced and comparative analyses were performed on the vision-related and olfactory receptor (OR) genes to understand the molecular mechanisms of the visual and olfactory adaptation of night herons.

The results indicated that a number of vision genes were under positive or relaxed selection in N. nycticorax, whereas a number of other vision genes were under relaxed or intensified selection in the boat-billed heron (Cochlearius cochlearius), which suggested that the two species adapt to nocturnality with different genetic mechanisms. The different selections acting on vision genes aence that several vision genes of the night herons were subjected to different natural selections, which can contribute to a better understanding of the genetic mechanisms of visual adaptions of the night heron. In addition, the finding of the reduced number of total and expressed OR genes in night herons may reflect a trade-off between olfaction and vision.

The histological differentiation grades of gastric cancer (GC) are closely related to treatment choices and prognostic evaluation. Radiomics from dual-energy spectral CT (DESCT) derived iodine-based material decomposition (IMD) images may have the potential to reflect histological grades.

A total of 103 patients with pathologically proven GC (low-grade in 40 patients and high-grade in 63 patients) who underwent preoperative DESCT were enrolled in our study. Radiomic features were extracted from conventional polychromatic (CP) images and IMD images, respectively. Three radiomic predictive models (model-CP, model-IMD, and model-CP-IMD) based on solely CP selected features, IMD selected features and CP coupled with IMD selected features were constructed. The clinicopathological data of the enrolled patients were analyzed. Then, we built a combined model (model-Combine) developed with CP-IMD and clinical features. Model-CP-IMD achieved better AUC results than both model-CP and model-IMD in both cohorts. Model-Combine, which combined CP-IMD radiomic features, pT stage, and pN stage, yielded the highest AUC values of 0.910 and 0.912 in the training and testing cohorts, respectively. Model-CP-IMD and model-Combine outperformed model-CP according to decision curve analysis.

DESCT-based radiomics models showed reliable diagnostic performance in predicting GC histologic differentiation grade. The radiomic features extracted from IMD images showed great promise in terms of enhancing diagnostic performance.

Ginseng, an important traditional Chinese medicine and a new resource food, has two production modes farmland ginseng and forestland ginseng. Ginseng faces many problems such as high soil bulk density, easy hardening, low nutrient content, reduced porosity and increased soil acidification because of continuous cropping. Increasing studies indicate that plant rhizosphere symbiotic bacteria have an important effect on plant growth and development. We speculate that differences in microbial community may play an important role in promoting ginseng growth, development and health. To reveal the differences between farmland and forestland ginseng cultivation, and to address problems associated with continuous ginseng cropping, we investigated the effects of differences in plant rhizosphere symbiotic bacterial communities in promoting ginseng growth, development, and health.

In Western countries, it is common practice for a woman to be supported by a trusted person during childbirth, usually the other parent. Numerous studies have shown that this has a positive effect both on the woman's satisfaction with the birth process and on physical outcomes. However, there is little research on the birth experience of partners and their wellbeing. The aim of this review is to summarise the existing literature on partner experience, consider its quality and identify the underlying themes.

Both a systematic literature search in three databases and a manual search were conducted, for qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods studies from Western countries examining the experiences of partners present at a birth.

A total of 35 studies were included. Only one study included same-sex partners (the other studies addressed fathers' experiences only) and only one validated questionnaire examining partners' birth experiences was identified. Four major themes were found to influence partnersher studies, especially same-sex partners.

Protection by preventive Ebola vaccines has been demonstrated in clinical trials, but a complete picture of real-world effectiveness is lacking. Our previous study modeling the impact of preventively vaccinating healthcare workers (HCW) alone or with a proportion of the general population (GP) estimated significant reductions in incidence and mortality. The model assumed 100% vaccine efficacy, which is unlikely in the real world. We enhanced this model to account for lower vaccine efficacy and to factor in reduced infectiousness and lower case fatality rate in vaccinated individuals with breakthrough infections.

The previous model was enhanced to still permit a risk, although lower, for vaccinated individuals to become infected. Nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) concomitant with coronary artery disease (CAD) may increase the risk of thromboembolism. Antithrombotic therapy for NVAF patients with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains contradictory and challenging. This study aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) in a cohort of patients with NVAF and PCI.

A total of 109 patients undergoing LAAC procedures between March 2017 and December 2020 were categorized into 2 groups, Group I included 36 patients with PCI while group II included 73 patients without. Peri-procedural and long-term complications, as well as ischemia and bleeding events, were retrospectively analyzed.

Group I had more diabetes mellitus (55.6% vs. 26.0%; p = 0.003), higher CHA2DS2-VASc scores (5.44 ± 1.85 vs. 4.22 ± 1.64; p = 0.002) and HAS-BLED scores (3.39 ± 0.93 vs. 2.74 ± 1.05; p = 0.003) compared to Group II.
