Our results clearly demonstrate that the spectral perceptions of plants can be quantified using the light absorption of their photoreceptors, not visual color or spectra. We expect that our findings will contribute to a better understanding of plant perceptions of and responses to light quality, and improve the productivity of plants cultivated under artificial light.Enteric viral pathogens causing gastroenteritis include adenovirus and rotavirus, among others. Rotavirus is the leading cause of severe diarrhea in infants and young children worldwide. Among the adenoviruses known to cause gastroenteritis are those of species F (serotypes 40, 41). Here, we describe the development and validation of a laboratory-developed gastrointestinal triplex rRT-PCR (triplex) assay that targets adenovirus and rotavirus. Stool specimens were tested from patients across Ontario. Specimens were previously tested for adenovirus and/or rotavirus by electron microscopy (EM) or immunochromatographic test (ICT). Triplex sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values compared to Seegene assay (a commercial assay used here as the standard reference method) were 100%, 97.8%, 86.0%, 100% for adenovirus, and 99.1%, 98.4%, 96.3%. 99.6% for rotavirus, respectively. The triplex assay had a 95.2% and 97.3% overall percent agreements (OPAs) when compared to EM for adenovirus or rotavirus detection, respectively, and an OPA of 90.9% when compared to rotavirus ICT for rotavirus detection. Triplex assay exhibited similar performance to the Seegene assay for both adenovirus and rotavirus and detected more adenovirus and rotavirus than traditional testing methods. SOCS2-/- mice showed higher disease activity during colitis with increased mRNA expression of the pro-inflammatory cytokines nitric oxide synthase 2 (NOS2) and interleukin 1 β (IL1-β). At recovery time point, SOCS2-/- showed better recovery with less fibrosis measured by levels of α-SMA and collagen deposition. Protein and mRNA expressions of transforming growth factor beta β1 (TGF-β1) receptors were significantly lower in SOCS2-/- mice compared to wild-type littermates. Using an in vivo bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) proliferation assay, SOCS2-/- mice showed higher intestinal epithelial proliferation compared to wild-type mice. Our results demonstrated that deletion of the SOCS2 protein results in higher growth hormone sensitivity associated with higher pro-inflammatory signaling; however, it resulted in less tissue damage with less fibrotic lesions and higher epithelial proliferation, which are markers of GH-protective effects in IBD. This suggests a pleiotropic effect of SOCS2 and multiple cellular targets. Besides clinically, these vision loss disorders present a high genetic and allelic heterogeneity. To date, over 250 genes have been associated to retinal dystrophies with reported causative variants of every nature (nonsense, missense, frameshift, splice-site, large rearrangements, and so forth). Except for a fistful of mutations, most of them are private and affect one or few families, making it a challenge to ratify the newly identified candidate genes or the pathogenicity of dubious variants in disease-associated loci. A recurrent option involves altering the gene in in vitro or in vivo systems to contrast the resulting phenotype and molecular imprint. To validate specific mutations, the process must rely on simulating the precise genetic change, which, until recently, proved to be a difficult endeavor. The land cover dynamics results show that cropland and forest are the main land cover types in Jiangxi province. Urban land drastically increased after 2000, expanding from 846.54 km2 in 2000 to 2317.48 km2 in 2015. Forest and water obviously decreased across the study periods. Consequently, the total ecosystem service values decreased from 37.91 × 1010 Yuan in 1995 to 35.27 × 1010 Yuan in 2015. The values showed a declining trend, especially during the 1995-2000 period. The largest declines in ecosystem service values were caused by decreases in forest and water cover. Regulating services experienced the largest declines in ecosystem services value. Moreover, water supply showed the largest decline in ecosystem service value between 1995 and 2015. Not surprisingly, food production increased in the whole period, especially in the 1995-2000 period. Forest and cropland played the most important roles in the total ecosystem service values of Jiangxi province. We then discussed the relationship among ecosystem services based on the ecosystem service trade-off degree. The results show that the dominant relationship among ecosystem services in Jiangxi province was synergy; thus synergy mostly occurred in all ecosystem services except for food production from 1995 to 2015. However, during the 1995-2000 period, trade-offs mainly existed in both food production and waste treatment. The proportion of synergy greatly increased in the 2000-2015 period, and the synergistic relationship between waste treatment and other ecosystem services increased. However, the trade-off relationship between food production and other ecosystem services still has not improved, which should be concerned in the future. Changes in the percentage share of cropland showed a declining trend; thus, the potential risk of cropland loss should be monitored.
