Overall image quality and conspicuity of anatomic structures were superior in PPBH than in SV PET images. PPBH induced significantly less misalignment of the liver and diaphragm in all planes compared to SV. For the gall bladder, PPBH showed significantly less misalignment than SV only in the transverse plane. The maximum SUV in all of the liver areas was significantly higher with PPBH compared to SV. PPBH exhibited significantly higher mean SUV in the liver adjacent to the left diaphragmatic dome and left lateral border and higher minimum SUV only in the liver adjacent to the left diaphragmatic dome.

To understand large animal veterinarians' knowledge of select zoonotic diseases that cause livestock abortions and identify barriers to using personal protective equipment (PPE).

A convenience sample of 469 veterinarians currently working with livestock.

We sent an electronic survey invitation to large animal veterinarians through various veterinary organizations. Respondents answered questions addressing knowledge and prior experience with select abortion-associated zoonotic diseases, resources available for infection control, attitudes and barriers to PPE use, and demographics.

Median participant age was 49 years (range, 22 to 82 years), and 54% (235/438) were male. Half of veterinarians (185/348) were contacted 5 or fewer times per year to consult on livestock abortions. No veterinarians surveyed answered all questions on zoonotic disease transmission correctly. Personal protective equipment access varied, from 99% (289/290) having access to gloves to 20% (59/290) having access to respirators. Concerns for spreading disease to other animals (136/289 [47%]) and to other humans (108/287 [38%]) ranked as the most common reported motivators for PPE use. Reported barriers to PPE use among survey participants were the inconvenience of taking PPE into the field (101/286 [35%]) and the inconvenience of wearing PPE (97/286 [34%]). Access to PPE was not correlated with PPE use.

To evaluate patterns of bacterial culture and antimicrobial susceptibility test results for dogs with retrobulbar abscesses and generate recommendations for empirical antimicrobial selection.

133 dogs examined between 2002 and 2019.

Records were retrospectively reviewed to determine type of bacterial culture, number and type of bacterial isolates, antimicrobial susceptibility test results, concurrent and recent antimicrobial exposure, effect of culture results on antimicrobial regimen, and outcome.

Aerobic culture alone was performed in 37 dogs, and aerobic and anaerobic culture was performed in 96 dogs. Isolates were recovered from 96 dogs, with multiple isolates recovered from 54 (56%) of those dogs. Of the 69 dogs for which both aerobic and anaerobic culture was performed and at least 1 isolate was obtained, 34 (49%) had purely aerobic infections, 15 (22%) had mixed aerobic and anaerobic infections, and 20 (29%) had purely anaerobic infections. Pasteurella spp (n = 26), Streptococcus spp (20), and to characterize anaerobic antimicrobial susceptibilities and to compare results of susceptibility testing with in vivo responses to antimicrobial administration.

An 8-year-old spayed female Yorkshire Terrier-Poodle dog was evaluated for persistent pollakiuria and stranguria following routine cystotomy for calcium oxalate cystoliths.

The dog presented for a cystotomy with intermittent hematuria. Postoperative radiographs revealed no remaining cystoliths. Urine, cystolith, and bladder mucosal aerobic cultures were negative. Pollakiuria, stranguria, and hematuria developed immediately after surgery and persisted despite antibiotics. Ultrasound revealed suspected fibrous adhesions within the urinary bladder lumen connecting the dorsal and ventral bladder wall creating a septum. This was confirmed cystoscopically 4 weeks after surgery.

Cystoscopic-guided laser ablation was performed to incise abnormal tissue connecting the ventral and dorsal bladder wall using a holmiumyttrium-aluminum-garnet laser. Three weeks later, ultrasound revealed adhesion resolution though mild pollakiuria and stranguria persisted. Oxybutynin was prescribed and clinical signs resolved. At 27 orted as a complication after cystotomy in any species and should be considered as a cause of persistent lower urinary signs after surgery. Ultrasound identified the lesion in this dog. Because bladder abnormalities can develop quickly after surgery, ultrasound might be considered if urine testing is not supportive of infection. Cystoscopic-guided laser ablation was a successful minimally invasive treatment in this case.In industrial processes, the sampling rates of process variables are discrepant because of the nature of instruments and measuring demands, which forms the challenging issue, that is, the multirate modeling in the data-driven soft sensor development. In this work, a multiresolution pyramid variational autoencoder (MR-PVAE) predictive model is proposed to solve this problem based on the deep feature extraction and feature pyramid augmentation. First, a multirate data filter is designed through a resolution searching strategy to turn the original process data into a multiresolution dataset. Then, the pyramid variational autoencoder (PVAE) is proposed to extract deep nonlinear features from the data with different resolutions. In PVAE, the augmented feature pyramid is constructed layer by layer to fuse extracted features from low resolution to the high. As a consequence, the extracted features with various resolutions are gathered to form the regression model, where the process information contained in data with discrepant sampling rates can be fully utilized. Due to the layer-by-layer enhanced features, the prediction accuracy of the soft sensing model are gradually improved. Meanwhile, an optimized training strategy is established to select the optimal feature pyramid for prediction. A numerical experiment and an industrial soft sensing case are given to validate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed MR-PVAE model.The number of end devices that use the last-mile wireless connectivity is dramatically increasing with the rise of smart infrastructures and requires reliable functioning to support smooth and efficient business processes. To efficiently manage such massive wireless networks, more advanced and accurate network monitoring and malfunction detection solutions are required. In this article, we perform a first-time analysis of image-based representation techniques for wireless anomaly detection using recurrence plots (RPs) and Gramian angular fields and propose a new deep learning architecture enabling accurate anomaly detection. We elaborate on the design considerations for developing a resource-aware architecture and propose a new model using time series to image transformation using RPs. We show that the proposed model 1) outperforms the one based on Gramian angular fields by up to 14% points; 2) outperforms classical ML models using dynamic time warping by up to 24% points; 3) outperforms or performs on par with mainstream architectures, such as AlexNet and VGG11 while having less then 10x their weights and up to ≈ 8% of their computational complexity; and d) outperforms the state of the art in the respective application area by up to 55% points.
