The present study aimed to identify potential epidemiological and behavioural risk factors and clinical predictors of BV among women in Delhi, India. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted to assess 283 non-pregnant women aged 18-45 years for BV using Nugent's scoring criteria. Information on demographics, sexual behaviours, hygiene practices and clinical symptoms was obtained and evaluated for their association with Nugent-BV status. Results A positive diagnosis for Nugent-BV was made in 69 (24.4%) participants, 55 (19.4%) were intermediate and 159 (65.2%) were negative for Nugent-BV. Infertility (p = .02) and recent unprotected sexual exposure (p = .02) were strongly associated with Nugent-BV. On the other hand, women who reported regular use of condoms during intercourse were more likely to test negative (p = .03). None of the patient complaints, however, had any significant correlation with Nugent-BV diagnosis. Conclusion Women in their reproductive years share the highest burden of adversities associated with bacterial vaginosis. History of infertility, recent unprotected sexual exposure and frequent use of condoms were correlates having significant associations with Nugent-BV.Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is an important cause of death worldwide. MicroRNA (miRNA)-mediated gene silencing is involved in tumor biology. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the function and mechanism of action of miR-582-3p in HCC. We performed reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blotting to detect the expression levels of miR-582-3p, ribonucleotide reductase regulatory subunit M2 (RRM2), and markers of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway (Wnt, Gsk-3β, β-catenin, and C-myc). The potential binding between miR-582-3p and RRM2 was confirmed using a dual-luciferase reporter assay. The proliferative and migratory capacities of the cells were evaluated using the cell counting kit-8 and wound-healing assays, respectively. Mouse models were used to validate the role of miR-582-3p in vivo. We observed the downregulation of miR-582-3p levels in HCC tumors and cell lines. Its upregulation in Huh7 and Hep 3B cells impaired their proliferation and migration, and the in vivo results showed suppressed tumor growth. Additionally, miR-582-3p upregulation also reduced the expression levels of Wnt, β-catenin, and C-myc, but enhanced the expression levels of glycogen synthase kinase-3β, both in vitro and in vivo. miR-582-3p targeted RRM2, and a negative correlation was observed in its expression patterns in HCC. Furthermore, RRM2 overexpression aggravated the proliferative and migratory capabilities of Hep3B and Huh7 cells and triggered Wnt/β-catenin signaling. However, miR-582-3p depleted RRM2 expression, thereby attenuating the oncogenic effects of RRM2. This research probed the function of enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) in activity of trophoblast cells and its correlation with growth arrest and DNA damage inducible alpha (GADD45A). EZH2 was predicted to be downregulated in placental tissues in PE according to a gene chip analysis, and reduced expression of EZH2 was detected in the placental tissues of patients with PE. Overexpression of EZH2 augmented proliferation and invasiveness of two trophoblast cell lines HTR-8/SVneo and JEG3 cells. EZH2 catalyzed trimethylation of lysine 27 on histone 3 (H3K27me3) in GADD45A promoter to suppress its transcription. GADD45A silencing increased the activity of the trophoblast cell lines and inactivated the p38/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway. Rescue experiments confirmed that either inhibition of GADD45A or p38 restored the proliferation, migration, and invasiveness of the trophoblast cell lines suppressed by EZH2 silencing. In conclusion, this work suggests that EZH2 enhances activity of trophoblast cell lines by suppressing GADD45A-mediated p38/MAPK signaling pathway.

Mobile health (mHealth) apps have facilitated symptom monitoring of COVID-19 symptoms globally and have been used to share data with health care professionals and support disease prediction, prevention, management, diagnostics, and improvements in treatments and patient education.

The aim of this review is to evaluate the quality and functionality of COVID-19 mHealth apps that support tracking acute and long-term symptoms of COVID-19.

We systematically reviewed commercially available mHealth apps for COVID-19 symptom monitoring by searching Google Play and Apple iTunes using search terms such as "COVID-19," "Coronavirus," and "COVID-19 and symptoms." All apps underwent three rounds of screening. The final apps were independently assessed using the Mobile Application Rating Scale (MARS), an informatics functionality scoring system, and the Center for Disease Control and World Health Organization symptom guidelines. The MARS is a 19-item standardized tool to evaluate the quality of mHealth apps on engagemre that would allow patients to communicate their symptoms to specific caregivers or their own health care team. App developers should also follow updated technical and clinical guidelines from the Center for Disease Control and the World Health Organization.It is unknown how lower-leg injury and knee arthroscopy, both associated with venous thromboembolism (VTE), affect coagulation. To study the effect of (1) lower-leg trauma and (2) knee arthroscopy on coagulation, plasma samples of the Prevention of Thrombosis following CAST immobilization (POT-CAST, #NCT01542762) and Prevention of Thrombosis following Knee Arthroscopy (POT-KAST, #NCT01542723) trials were used, which were collected shortly after lower-leg trauma and before/after ( less then 4 hours) knee arthroscopy. For aim 1, 1204 lower-leg injury patients were compared with preoperative samples of 1001 controls. Mean differences/ratios (if ln-retransformed because of skewedness) were adjusted for sex, age, body mass index, comorbidity, malignancy, and oral contraceptives using linear regression. For aim 2, perioperative mean changes of 715 arthroscopy patients were calculated. Plasma levels of fibrinogen, factor (F)VIII, FIX, FXI, von Willebrand Factor (VWF), and D-dimer were measured in all individuals. Parameters of underlying mechanisms (tissue factor, interleukin-6 [IL-6], myeloperoxidase DNA, cell-free DNA) were measured in random subsets. In lower-leg injury patients, coagulation parameter levels increased, especially FVIII, VWF, and D-dimer, that is, adjusted mean differences FVIII 26.8% (95% confidence interval [CI], 23.7-29.9), FIX 13.8% (95% CI, 11.9-15.6), FXI 5.1% (95% CI, 3.3-7.0), VWF 29.8% (95% CI, 26.0-33.6), fibrinogen 32.5 mg/dL (95% CI, 25.8-39.2), and D-dimer (mean ratio) 3.3 (95% CI, 3.1-3.6). Remaining parameters were unchanged, except for increased IL-6 levels. After arthroscopy, all parameters decreased. Lower-leg trauma is associated with increased procoagulant factor levels in contrast to knee arthroscopy. This suggests that, in both situations, different pathways are involved in development of VTE.

The COVID-19 pandemic has inequitably impacted the experiences of people living with ill health/impairments or from minoritized ethnic groups across all areas of life. Given possible parallels in inequities for disabled people and people from minoritized ethnic backgrounds, their existence before the pandemic and increase since, and the discriminations that each group faces, our interest is in understanding the interplay between being disabled AND being from a minoritized ethnic group.

The overarching aim of the Coronavirus Chronic Conditions and Disabilities Awareness (CICADA) project, building on this understanding, is to improve pandemic and longer-term support networks, and access to and experiences of care, services, and resources for these underserved groups, both during the pandemic and longer term, thereby reducing inequities and enhancing social, health, and well-being outcomes.

This mixed methods study involves three "sweeps" of a new UK survey; secondary analyses of existing cohort and panel the United Kingdom (UK) National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) in March 2021 and began in May 2021. Further work within the project (84 interviews) was commissioned in March 2022, a substudy focusing on mental health, specifically in Northeast England, Greater Manchester, and the Northwest Coast of the United Kingdom. Data collection began in August 2021, with the last participants due to be recruited in September 2022. As of January 2022, 5792 survey respondents and 227 interviewees had provided data. From April 2022, the time of article submission, we will recruit participants for the substudy and wave 2 of the surveys and qualitative work. We expect results to be published by winter 2022.

In studying the experiences of disabled people with impairments and those living with chronic conditions who come from certain minoritized ethnic groups, we are aiming for transformative research to improve their health and well-being.
