However, little is known regarding the feasibility of MET in patients with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis (OA). The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of MET in patients with symptomatic knee pain with radiographic verified OA.Methods Patients with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis were recruited to a group-based high repetitive high dose MET intervention for 12 weeks in a primary health care setting. Indicators of feasibility included processes (recruitment, program adherence, and exercise compliance), and scientific feasibility (safety and pain evaluated by using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS)).Results Out of 31 individuals with symptomatic knee OA, 29 (93%) were included in this study. A total of 26 patients (90%) completed the intervention and 83% reached an attendance rate of ≥30 treatments. No adverse events were reported, and a majority of the patients reported a pain intensity less then 30 mm (VAS) throughout the intervention period. The results showed a 70% reduction of median pain intensity between baseline (33 mm, IQR 39), and post-assessment (10 mm, IQR 25, P = .003).Conclusion These findings support an overall positive feasibility of MET for patients with symptomatic knee OA. The results also demonstrated that achieving a high dose of exercises might be challenging for this population. Thus, individual variations in exercise dose may be a confounding factor when evaluating high dose MET in future clinical studies.Succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase (SSADH) deficiency is an autosomal recessive disorder of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) degradation, resulting in elevations of brain GABA and γ-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB). Here in this work, we measure brain GABA in a large cohort of SSADH deficiency patients using advanced MR spectroscopy techniques that allow separation of GABA from overlapping metabolite peaks. We observed significant increases in GABA concentrations in SSADH deficiency patients for all 3 brain regions that were evaluated. Although GABA levels were higher in all 3 regions, each region had different patterns in terms of GABA changes with respect to age. We also report results from structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the same cohort compared with age-matched controls. Medical students as future physicians will have an important role in tobacco control; therefore, their tobacco use behavior is of particular interest. Consumption of combustible tobacco (cigarettes, waterpipes, cigars, and pipes) is prevalent throughout Europe, whereas smokeless tobacco use is common mainly in the Nordic countries.
Aim of our study is to assess tobacco use among medical students from different countries studying in Hungary with special focus on students from Norway where smokeless tobacco is widely used. In vitro deselection methods that included an excess of negatively charged membrane preparations, or deoxyribonucleic acid, during phage selection of optimization libraries were unsuccessful in avoiding enrichment of highly charged, nonspecific antibody variants. However, a combination of structure-guided rational library design, next-generation sequencing of library outputs and application of linear regression models resulted in the identification of an antibody that maintained high affinity for IL-21 R and exhibited a desirable stability and biophysical profile.
