To report a case of bilateral acute macular neuroretinopathy following the first dose of Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) vaccine in a young, Caucasian, and healthy woman.

A 25-year-old Caucasian female patient presented to the ophthalmology department of Dijon University Hospital with a 3-week history of black spots and paracentral scotoma in both eyes. She had no past medical history and was using the combined estrogen-progestin oral contraceptive (COC). These symptoms occurred 24 h after receiving the first Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccination dose. The ophthalmologic signs were preceded a few hours earlier by fever and flu-like symptoms. Ophthalmologic examination revealed a preserved visual acuity with a quiet anterior segment and normal fundus in both eyes. Findings on multimodal retinal imaging, particularly near-infrared reflectance (NIR) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging, were classical of an acute macular neuroretinopathy in both eyes.

COVID-19 immunizations are novel and there is widespread public concern for the lack of data on their potential adverse effects. Cases of Bell's palsy following COVID-19 vaccination were reported disproportionately in the vaccine group during phase 3 clinical trials and have now been reported multiple times post-licensure. To assess the prevalence of psychological distress (PD), and its associated demographic, psychosocial, hospital and health-related factors among hospital workers in Uganda during the COVID-19 related lockdown.

An online cross-sectional study was conducted among three hundred ninety six participants recruited from eight hospitals and PD was assessed using the Kessler 6 distress scale from May to June 2020.

PD was present in 92.7% of the participants with majority (78.3%) having mild to moderate PD whereas 14.4% had severe PD. Severe PD had statistically significant association with having financial liabilities (O.R = 3.69 (1.55-8.77), p = 0.003). Research is lacking on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on marijuana vaping behaviors; a notable limitation as marijuana vaping has been previously associated with respiratory issues among young people. This qualitative study explored how the COVID-19 pandemic influenced vaping perceptions and behaviors among young adults (18 to 25-year-olds).

Qualitative interviews were conducted with 50 regular marijuana vapers. Individuals were eligible if they vaped marijuana at least 3days per week (exclusively or dual use with nicotine). Interview transcripts were analyzed using deductive coding processes to identify themes. Differences in themes by gender and user status (regular marijuana versus regular dual vapers) were explored.

While many participants indicated that the pandemic negatively impacted their attitudes about vaping, participants also noted that their negative attitudes did not translate into reductions in use. Overall, 54% of participants reported increasing vaping during COVID-19. For both regular dual vapers and marijuana vapers, boredom was a prominent theme for increases in vaping. Lack of accessibility of marijuana was cited as a reason for decreasing marijuana among regular marijuana vapers but not for regular dual vapers. Males reported more unchanged attitudes about vaping and more males than females reported still sharing their devices.

Data was retrieved using keywords "Q fever" or "Coxiella burnetii" in title, abstract, and author keywords to describe important research indicators such as the kind and language of articles, the most important publications, research journals and categories, authors, institutions, and the countries having the most significant contribution to this subject. Finally, the emerging areas in field of diagnosis, host range, and clinical presentation were identified. Word cluster analysis of research related to Q fever revealed that major focus of research has been on zoonosis, seroprevalence, laboratory diagnosis (mainly using ELISA and PCR), clinical manifestations (abortion and endocarditis), vectors (ticks), and hosts (sheep, goat, and cattle). This bibliometric study is intended to visualize the existing research landscape and future trends in Q fever to assist in future knowledge exchange and research collaborations.
