To give a comprehensive understanding of the efficacy of antimicrobial-loaded scaffolds as drug delivery system for periodontal regeneration, and to review the recent advances in the field of periodontal regeneration.

The literature was reviewed using key words "antimicrobial releasing periodontal scaffolds" on Science Direct, PubMed and Web of Science search engines. Shortlisted articles were evaluated on the basis of specific inclusion-exclusion criteria.

Of the 544 studies found, 34(6.25%) met the inclusion criteria. The trend indicated an increase in use of antimicrobial-loaded scaffolds that caused inhibition of periodontal pathogenic bacteria, accompanied with greater cellular interaction, and differentiation for alveolar bone healing. Contemporary treatment tactics clinically prove the ability to limit disease progression, but complete periodontal regeneration needs to be validated yet.

Emerging trends are not only improving the inhibitory effect of bacterial growth, but are also making a favourable environment for cell proliferation and differentiation, resulting in alveolar bone repair and re-growth.

To explore the correlates directly associated with body mass index and cardiorespiratory fitness among undergraduate female physiotherapists.

The cross-sectional study was conducted from October to December 2020 at Ali-Ul-Murtaza Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Muhammad Institute of Medical and Allied Sciences, Multan, Pakistan, and comprised undergraduate female physiotherapists aged17-25 years. The subjects were assessed on the basis of Physical Activity Readiness Questioner, body mass index and standard criteria of cardiorespiratory fitness. Data was analysed using SPSS 20.

Of the 334 subjects with a mean age of 20.89±1.66 years, 200(59.88) were overweight and 34(10.17) were underweight. Overall 83(24.9) reported good quality of life, 194(58.1) were satisfied with their general health, and 228(68.3) presented with a history of cardiometabolic disorder. There was a highly significant positive correlation in overweight and negative correlation in underweight subjects (p≤0.05).

The frequency of overweight female physical therapy students was high.

To assess the impact of the coronavirus disease-2019 pandemic on paediatric postgraduate training as perceived by the trainees.

The cross-sectional exploratory study was conducted at the Department of Paediatrics, King Edward Medical University, Lahore, Pakistan, from May to June 2020, and comprised paediatric postgraduate trainees associated with various hospitals across the country who were approached online with a pre-designed 24-item questionnaire during the peak months of the pandemic. Data was analysed using SPSS 25.

Of the 226 postgraduates, 134(59.2%) were females. The overall mean age was 28.85±3.06 years. Of the total, 200(88.5%) and 195(86.2%) reported that pandemic had adversely impacted their training and research. The number of trainees managing >30 patients and doing >5 procedures per week before the pandemic decreased from 126(55.8%) and 150(66.4%) to 38(16.8%) and 41(18.1%), respectively, during the pandemic (p=0.01). Regarding e-learning, 168(74.3%) trainees thought it might partly compensate for training, 135(59.7%) showed readiness for it, and 179(79.2%) believed this could not replace actual patient interaction.

The coronavirus disease-2019 pandemic was found to have adversely impacted paediatric postgraduate training.

To assess the effect of diet-related mobile application based on artificial intelligence on the nutritional status of children post-cardiac surgery, and to compare their diet-related problems with their counterparts having the usual diet.

The two-arm double-blind randomised controlled trial will be conducted at a tertiary care hospital in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, over an expected duration of 6 months from March to August 2021. Intervention group A will be given a diet-related mobile application based on artificial intelligence, while usual-care group B will be handed a pamphlet with instructions related to post-operative diet on discharge.

The findings will improve perception about the influence of artificial intelligence on nutritional status of children post-cardiac surgery. If proven to be effective, this mobile application can be used in other hospitals.

The study protocol will give an indication that whether diet-related mobile application can contribute to improving the nutritional status of children post-cardiac surgery. As the pandemic has forced people to minimise hospital visits, this is the right time to evaluate the utility of such an application.

To explore threshold concepts in a Basic Health Sciences module.

The qualitative study was conducted at the Islamabad Medical and Dental College, Islamabad, Pakistan, in March 2019, and comprised students and faculty members in the gastrointestinal tract module of spiral I of the integrated modular curriculum in Basic Health Sciences. Data on student experiences was collected using semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions. The data was coded and themes were identified by the researchers independently. A thematic matrix was produced, cross-referencing data relating to troublesome areas identified by the students against the threshold concept criteria. The identified themes were discussed among the researchers to reach consensus. Only the identified themes were taken as the expected threshold concepts in the gastrointestinal tract module.

Of the 18 subjects, 14(77.8%) were students and 4(22.2%) were facilitators. There were 8 areas identified by the students as troublesome in the module; develng concepts of the module.

To highlight the clinical characteristics of primary biliary cholangitis on the basis of gender in terms of the extent of liver injury and extra-liver autoimmune expressions.

The retrospective study was conducted at the Tri-Service General Hospital, Taiwan, and comprised data of patients aged >20 years diagnosed with primary biliary cholangitis between January 2000 and December 2018. Patients in the control group were randomly selected from the health examination centre. Liver injury manifestations and susceptibilities were analysed along gender lines. The gene expression microarray data from the National Centre for Biotechnology Information Gene Expression Omnibus database was also used to explore the relationship between autoimmune-induced inflammation and androgen response expression. Statistical analysis was done using Graph-Pad Prism 7.0.

Of the 75 cases, 63(84%) were females with a mean age of 64.6±1.78 years, and 12(16%%) were males with a mean age of 46.6±5.6 years. Of the 66 controls, 55(83.ceptor responses and inflammation was linked to gender-related hepatic injuries, which may explain why liver inflammation in male patients is generally more severe compared to the female patients.

To determine the factors related to low bone density in postmenopausal women with rheumatoid arthritis.

The prospective cross-sectional study was conducted at the Rheumatology Department of Fauji Foundation Hospital, Rawalpindi, Pakistan, from June 1 to November 30, 2020, and comprised postmenopausal women with rheumatoid arthritis. On the basis of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry scan of total hip, femoral neck, and lumbar spine, the subjects were categorised into osteoporosis, osteopenia and normal bone density groups. The risk factors were compared across these subgroups. Data was analysed using SPSS 21.

Of the 114 women, 74(64.9%) had osteoporosis, 31(27.2%) had osteopenia and 9(7.9%) had normal bone mineral density. Those with osteoporosis were older (p<0.05), had low body mass index (p<0.002) and had a longer duration since menopause (p<0.004) compared to the other groups. Age and body mass index were significant factors associated with the condition (p<0.05).

Older age, lesser body mass index and time since menopause were the factors significantly associated with osteoporosis.
