To discuss the clinical and prognostic indicators of pediatric malignant rhabdoid tumor of the kidney (MRTK), and to increase the understanding of the occurrence and development of MRTK.

From July 2014 to September 2021, all cases were confirmed by postoperative pathological examination. Among the 42 patients, there were 25 males and 17 females, with a median age of 10 (1-84) months. Abdominal mass or hematuria were the main clinical manifestations. Preoperative chemotherapy was performed in 9 cases (VC). The tumor stages were stage I-IV. Preoperative metastasis was found in 9 cases; the most common site was the lung. Postoperative patients received conventional chemotherapy, including VDACE regimen and UH-1 regimen. Among the 42 children in this group, survival at follow-up in this study was 26.2%(11/42).

Preoperative anemia was found by univariate analysis, hypertension and hypercalcemia had shorter survival time. In addition, tumor-related factors had a significant impact on survival, with incompletegnificantly improve the survival rate. Diagnosis depends on clinical manifestations, imaging, histopathology, immunohistochemistry and other comprehensive judgment. Age less than 12 months, preoperative metastasis, and no postoperative chemotherapy were independent risk factors for prognosis.

High myopia-related complications have become a major cause of irreversible vision loss. Evaluating the association between potential factors and high myopia can provide insights into pathophysiologic mechanisms and further intervention targets for myopia progression.

Participants aged 12-25 years from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2001-2006 were selected for the analysis. Myopia was defined as spherical equivalent (sum of spherical error and half of the cylindrical error) of any eyes ≤-0.5 diopters. High myopia was defined as the spherical equivalent of any eye ≤ - 5.00 diopters. Essential variables were selected by Random Forest algorithm and verified by multivariable logistic regression.

A total of 7,033 participants and 74 potential factors, including demographic (4 factors), physical examination (6 factors), nutritional and serological (45 factors), immunological (9 variables), and past medical history factors (10 factors), were included into the analysis. Random Forest algorithmhould be interpreted with caution because the potential increased type I error after the multiple testing. It still needs further investigation regarding the mechanism underlying this association. Neither C-reactive protein nor asthma increased the risk and severity of myopia.

Multiple clinical trials with different exercise protocols have demonstrated efficacy in the management of migraine. However, there is no head-to-head comparison of efficacy between the different exercise interventions.

A systematic review and network meta-analysis was performed involving all clinical trials which determined the efficacy of exercise interventions in reducing the frequency of monthly migraine. Medical journal search engines included Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus spanning all previous years up to July 30, 2022. Both aerobic and strength/resistance training protocols were included. The mean difference (MD, 95% confidence interval) in monthly migraine frequency from baseline to end-of-intervention between the active and control arms was used as an outcome measure. Efficacy evidence from direct and indirect comparisons was combined by conducting a random effects model network meta-analysis. The efficacy of the three exercise protocols was compared, i.e., moderate-intensity aerobic exercisrocess and handling of missing outcome data.

Strength training exercise regimens demonstrated the highest efficacy in reducing migraine burden, followed by high-intensity aerobic exercise.

Observational studies and Mendelian randomization experiments have been used to identify many causal factors for complex traits in humans. Given a set of causal factors, it is important to understand the extent to which these causal factors explain some, all, or none of the genetic heritability, as measured by single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that are associated with the trait. Apoptosis inhibitor Using the mediation model framework with SNPs as the exposure, a trait of interest as the outcome, and the known causal factors as the mediators, we hypothesize that any unexplained association between the SNPs and the outcome trait is mediated by an additional unobserved, hidden causal factor.

We propose a method to infer the effect size of this hidden mediating causal factor on the outcome trait by utilizing the estimated associations between a continuous outcome trait, the known causal factors, and the SNPs. The proposed method consists of three steps and, in the end, implements Markov chain Monte Carlo to obtain a posterior distribution for the effect size of thehidden mediator. We evaluate our proposed method via extensive simulations and show that when model assumptions hold, our method estimates the effect size of the hidden mediator well and controls type I error rate if the hidden mediator does not exist. In addition, we apply the method to the UK Biobank data and estimate parameters for a potential hidden mediator for waist-hip ratio beyond body mass index (BMI), and find that the hidden mediator has a large effect size relatively to the effect size of the known mediator BMI.

We develop a framework to infer the effect of potential, hidden mediators influencing complex traits. This framework can be used to place boundaries on unexplained risk factors contributing to complex traits.

Preliminary data from organ transplant recipients have shown reduced seroconversion rates after the administration of different SARS-CoV-2 vaccination platforms. However, it is unknown whether different vaccination platforms provide different levels of protection against SARS-CoV-2. To answer this question, we prospectively studied 431 kidney and liver transplant recipients (kidney n = 230; liver n = 201) who received either the ChAdOx1 vaccine (n = 148) or the BNT-162b2 vaccine (n = 283) and underwent an assessment of immunoglobulin M/immunoglobulin G spike antibody levels. The primary objective of the study is to directly compare the efficacy of two different vaccine platforms in solid organ transplant recipients by measuring of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies against the RBD of the spike protein (anti-RBD) two weeks after first and second doses. Our secondary endpoints were solicited specific local or systemic adverse events within 7 days after the receipt of each dose of the vaccine. There was no difference in the primary outcome between the two vaccine platforms in patients who received two vaccine doses. Unresponsiveness was mainly linked to diabetes. The rate of response after the first dose among younger older patients was significantly larger; however, after the second dose this difference did not persist (p = 0.079). Side effects were similar to those that were observed during the pivotal trials.

The incidence and mortality of aortic dissection (AD) are increasing. In pathological studies, macrophages, T lymphocytes and dendritic cells were found in the tunica media of the aorta. Acetaldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH

) gene polymorphisms are associated with a high incidence of hypertension in Asian populations. However, there is no clear evidence of the relationship between ALDH

and aortic dissection in Asians. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence of aortic dissection in different ALDH

genotypes and explore changes in the vasculature.

Three-week-old male mice were administered freshly prepared β-aminopropionitrile solution dissolved in drinking water (1g/kg/d) for 28 days to induce TAD. An animal ultrasound imaging system was used to observe the formation of arterial dissection and changes in cardiac function. Subsequently, mice were euthanized by cervical dislocation. The aortas were fixed for HE staining and EVG staining to observe aortic elastic fiber tears and pseudoluma formation under a microscope.

Knockout of ALDH

mitigated β-aminopropionitrile-induced TAD formation in animal studies. Ultrasound results showed that ALDH

knockout reduced the degree of ascending aortic widening and the incidence of aortic dissection rupture. Pathological sections of multiple aortic segments showed that the protective effect of ALDH

knockout was observed in not only the ascending aorta but also the aortic arch and descending aorta. The expression levels of genes related to NK CD56bright cells, Th17 cells, T cells and T helper cells were decreased in ALDH

knockout mice treated with β-aminopropionitrile for 28 days.

ALDH

knockout protects against aortic dissection by altering the inflammatory response and immune response and protecting elastic fibers.

To investigate the relationship between retinal microvasculature and cerebral hemodynamics in patients with internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis.

Patients with unilateral moderate or severe ICA stenosis(≥50%) from West China hospital, Sichuan university were consecutively and prospectively recruited enrolled in the current study. En face angiograms of the superficial vascular complex (SVC), deep vascular complex (DVC), superficial vascular plexus (SVP), intermediate capillary plexus (ICP), and deep capillary plexus (DCP) were generated by automatic segmentation using swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA) to assess the retinal microvascular perfusion. The cerebral blood flow perfusion on bilateral middle cerebral artery territories measured at the basal ganglia level was assessed by brain computed tomography perfusion (CTP). CTP data were postprocessed to generate maps of different perfusion parameters including cerebral blood flow (CBF), cerebral blood volume (CBV), time to peages in superficial vascular layer (SVC and SVP) were correlated with brain hemodynamic compromise in patients with unilateral moderate or severe ICA stenosis(≥50%). Given the limited size of our study, future studies with larger sample size are needed to confirm our findings.

Carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative (CPGN) bacteria impose life-threatening infections with limited treatment options. Rigor and rapid detection of CPGN-associated infections is usually associated with proper treatment and better disease prognosis. Accordingly, this study aimed at evaluating the phenotypic methods versus genotypic methods used for the detection of such pathogens and determining their sensitivity/specificity values.

A total of 71 CPGN bacilli (30 Enterobacterales and 41 non-glucose-fermenting bacilli) were tested for the carbapenemase production by the major phenotypic approaches including, the modified Hodge test (MHT), modified carbapenem inactivation method (mCIM), combined disk test by EDTA (CDT) and blue-carba test (BCT). The obtained results were statistically analyzed and correlated to the obtained resistant genotypes that were determined by using polymerase chain reactions (PCR) for the detection of the major carbapenemase-encoding genes covering the three classes (Class A, B, and D) of carbapenemases.
