The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is the premier and only security alliance uniting 30 countries and growing with many partner states in the provision of collective security and against threats posed by conflict and natural disasters. Security of countries and communities is increasingly threatened by a broad spectrum of unconventional types of war and disease threats - from hybrid and asymmetric to multi-domain and peer-to-peer/near-peer conflict. The NATO Centre of Excellence for Military Medicine (MILMED COE) is the centre of gravity for medical best practices and promotion of medical doctrine across the NATO alliance. Disaster medicine is multidisciplinary and in NATO, multinational, requiring best practices that are driven by data and evidence to prevent death on the battlefield and prepare for future conflicts. "Vigorous Warrior" is a live military and disaster medicine exercise series using both civilian and military actors across all sectors of health focused on health security and identifying lessons learned to ready the alliance for future threats. In this brief report, we make the case that the Vigorous Warrior exercise exposes gaps, highlights challenges and generates an evidence base to make NATO military medicine systems more robust, more efficient and in provision of best medical practices. We specifically argue that clinical data capture must be duplicated and continuous across the alliance to ensure evidence-based medicine stays current in NATO military medical doctrine.
Acrylamide is a toxic compound found in occupational and non-occupational environment. It originates from industrial use, technological processes in construction as well as food production, water purification, and laboratory use. Adverse effects including neurotoxicity, probably carcinogenicity, genotoxicity, teratogenicity, and reproductive toxicity were reported in many studies. Our study is focused on acrylamide content in selected food products in the Czech Republic.
In this study, we determined acrylamide content in selected samples of commonly consumed food products (potato chips, biscuits, popcorn, corn flakes, breakfast cereals, and baked muesli).
The concentration of acrylamide in most samples of potato chips, biscuits and popcorn exceeded the benchmark limits. The acrylamide content in samples of potato chips from one manufacturer in 4 cases out of 5 analysed samples exceeded benchmark limit. On the other hand, no corn flakes sample acrylamide content from the same manufacture exceeded the benchmark limit. Selleck ML349 With 20 of all analysed samples exceeding the benchmark levels for acrylamide, it can be concluded that 47.6% of samples did not comply with the benchmark level.
Dietary intake of frequently consumed food products with the acrylamide content exceeding the recommended comparative value could have adverse effects on the human health. Our study confirmed high amount of acrylamide in some selected food samples. The reduction of dietary burden with acrylamide is possible by complying with the correct technological principles in food preparation.

The study examined the fatty acids composition and main nutrients composition in two freshwater fish species in the Czech Republic during one year.
Samples of common carp and rainbow trout were taken from a market chain during a year. All samples were homogenized and analyzed for lipid, protein, water, and ash contents. Energy value (E), sum of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and saturated fatty acids (SFA), atherogenic index (AI) and thrombogenic index (TI) were then calculated.
The freshwater fish on the Czech market chain have beneficial average value content of unsaturated fatty acids, Σ MUFA+PUFA in carp is 69.46% of all fatty acids, similar average value of Σ MUFA+PUFA - 70.83% is in rainbow trout. The calculated average value of AI in carp is 0.52 (SD = 0.06), AI in rainbow trout is 0.63 (SD = 0.07), the average TI in carp is 0.63 (SD = 0.09), TI in rainbow trout is 0.49 (SD = 0.05).

The aim of the study was to determine the effects of age, gender and season on vitamin D status in healthy urban population at reproductive age. Also, we investigated the distribution of population into different groups regarding 25(OH)D levels.
Serum 25(OH)D levels of 21,317 participants 5,364 men (25.1%) and 15,953 women (74.8%), aged between 18-45 years, applying to two medical centres for check-up located in the same city were retrospectively analyzed. Group I consisted of 14,720 participants (11,257 women and 3,463 men) in the first centre and Group II consisted of 6,597 participants (4,696 women and 1,901 men) in the second centre.
The mean 25(OH)D levels did not differ between women and men in both groups 23.4 (SD = 14.4) and 23.1 (SD = 12.6) in Group I, and 22.6 (SD = 15.9) and 23.1 (SD = 14.3) in Group II, respectively, (p > 0.05). Similar trends exhibiting lower mean 25(OH)D levels at younger ages and higher levels at later ages were observed in both groups; a seasonal variation of 25(OH)D valence of women having 25(OH)D levels less than 5 ng/ml is higher than that of men.
Forced migration caused by wars has led to regression in health parameters, including tuberculosis. This study aims to determine the relationship between living area, family type and the number of contacts among refugees and Turkish citizens diagnosed with tuberculosis.
This study was designed using retrospective file scanning. A total of 194 patients with diagnosed TB were included in this study. In addition, patients' addresses were visited and their family lifestyles and living areas were recorded.
Of 194 patients in the age range of 1-72 years (mean = 31.15, SD = 15.16), 98 patients were refugees. The number of contacts among refugees was 549, and their total living area was 7,740 m
. A total of 57 refugees lived in a communal living situation, and their average living area was significantly lower than that of Turkish citizens. Statistical significance was observed between family lifestyle and habitats. This was found due to the difference between nuclear families and communal living situations.
Tuberculosis was found to infect more people in war-related living conditions.
