Although most clinical commissioning groups provide funding for the use of continuous positive airway pressure, the availability of funding for other obstructive sleep apnoea treatment modalities is heterogeneous, leaving continuous positive airway pressure intolerant patients with limited therapeutic options in some regions.

The use of cranial fixation devices in neurosurgery is very common, which is considered to be an important auxiliary method for many craniotomies. However, previous studies have reported complications of using cranial fixation devices, including brain tissue, nerve and blood vessel damage, scalp laceration, subcutaneous hematoma, etc. Some of the complications are serious and even potentially fatal, and the causes of which may be related to the incorrect use of cranial fixation devices. Although there are no serious complications in our review, the cause of that needs to be further summarized and analyzed, as so to minimize the serious consequences caused by the cranial fixation device slippage and ensure the safety of the patients' surgical procedure.

In our recent work, we have continuously found three cases of unstable cranial fixation devices, which make us to analyze the possible factors and summarize experience combined with the review of other senior neurosurgeons (more than 3 years of working experience of investigating and analyzing senior doctors from different neurosurgery centers, we summarized experience to minimize the risk of unstable cranial fixation. We tried a variety of options, including a safe anatomical location for cranial fixation, teamwork, and communication with anesthesiologists and itinerant nurses, to ensure the stability of the patient's cranial fixation devices. The data obtained in this survey has great limitations, including the doctor's personal prejudice and dependence on anecdotal memories. Therefore, the data should be interpreted with caution. However, there are still some modes that can help to better understand the use of safe cranial fixation. Based on the above research and analysis, we have made recommendations that may help neurosurgeons to avoid preventable complications.

Adolescence is a particularly vulnerable stages of life in which malnutrition inhibits academic performance through poor growth and development, mental retardation, poor overall cognitive function and poor health status. However, there is a dearth of evidence regarding the association between nutritional status and academic performance among adolescent students. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the association of nutritional status and academic performance among adolescent secondary school students in Wolaita Sodo town, Southern Ethiopia.

A facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 670 systematically selected adolescents in secondary schools of Wolaita Sodo town from April to June 2019. The academic performance of the adolescents was measured using the mean mark score of two consecutive semesters' results of all subjects. Data were analyzed using Stata software Version 15. Descriptive statistics, binary and multiple linear regression analysis were done. Statistical association of des are recommended to design additional teaching and learning schemes such as tutorial classes for girl students.

Interventions targeted at adolescents' nutritional status should be designed and implemented. The town education office and concerned bodies should launch a school feeding program for public schools. Development and income generation activities should target households in the first wealth status. Schools are recommended to design additional teaching and learning schemes such as tutorial classes for girl students.

On 18 January 2018 a 40 year old man presented with skin lesions at Rhino Camp Health Centre. A skin lesion swab was collected on 20 January 2018 and was confirmed by PCR at Uganda Virus Research Institute on 21 January 2018. Subsequently, about 9 persons were reported to have fallen ill after reporting contact with livestock that died suddenly. On 9 February 2018, Arua District notified Uganda Ministry of Health of a confirmed anthrax outbreak among humans in Rhino Camp sub-county. We investigated to determine the scope and mode of transmission and exposures associated with identified anthrax to guide control and prevention measures.

We defined a suspected cutaneous anthrax case as onset of skin lesions (e.g., papule, vesicle, or eschar) in a person residing in Rhino Camp sub-county, Arua District from 25 December 2017 to 31 May 2018. A confirmed case was a suspected case with PCR-positivity for Bacillus anthracis from a clinical sample. We identified cases by reviewing medical records at Rhino Camp Healemains on pastureland.

Multiple exposures to the hides and meat of animals that died suddenly were associated with this cutaneous anthrax outbreak in Arua District. We recommended public education about safe disposal of carcasses of livestock that die suddenly.

Validation and standardization of methodologies for microbial community measurements by high-throughput sequencing are needed to support human microbiome research and its industrialization. This study set out to establish standards-based solutions to improve the accuracy and reproducibility of metagenomics-based microbiome profiling of human fecal samples.

In the first phase, we performed a head-to-head comparison of a wide range of protocols for DNA extraction and sequencing library construction using defined mock communities, to identify performant protocols and pinpoint sources of inaccuracy in quantification. In the second phase, we validated performant protocols with respect to their variability of measurement results within a single laboratory (that is, intermediate precision) as well as interlaboratory transferability and reproducibility through an industry-based collaborative study. We further ascertained the performance of our recommended protocols in the context of a community-wide interlaboratory study (that is, the MOSAIC Standards Challenge).
