The clinical and pathological impact factors for renal function recovery in acute kidney injury (AKI) on the progression of renal function in primary membranous nephropathy (PMN) with AKI patients have not yet been reported, we sought to investigate the factors that may influence renal function recovery and develop a nomogram model for predicting renal function recovery in PMN with AKI patients.

Two PMN with AKI cohorts from the Nephrology Department, the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University during 2012-2018 and 2019-2020 were included, i.e., a derivation cohort during 2012-2018 and a validation cohort during 2019-2020. Clinical characteristics and renal pathological features were obtained. The outcome measurement was the recovery of renal function within 12 months. Lasso regression was used for clinical and pathological features selection. Prediction model was built and nomogram was plotted. Model evaluations including calibration curves were performed.

Renal function recovery was found in 72 of 124 (58.1%) patients and 41 of 72 (56.9%) patients in the derivation and validation cohorts, respectively. The prognostic nomogram model included determinants of sex, age, the comorbidity of hypertensive nephropathy, the stage of glomerular basement membrane and diuretic treatment with a reasonable concordance index of 0.773 (95%CI,0.716-0.830) in the derivation cohort and 0.773 (95%CI, 0.693-0.853) in the validation cohort. Diuretic use was a significant impact factor with decrease of renal function recovery in PMN with AKI patients.

The predictive nomogram model provides useful prognostic tool for renal function recovery in PMN patients with AKI.

Visual evoked potentials (VEPs) can provide objective functional assessment of the post-retinal visual pathway. This study compared the effects of sedation (butorphanol and dexmedetomidine) and general anesthesia (propofol and sevoflurane) on pattern and flash VEPs. Dogs (n = 13) underwent sedation or anesthesia and VEPs were obtained from 3 subcutaneous recording electrodes placed on the head (O1, Oz, O2).

Pattern VEPs could only be recorded under sedation and a maximum of 3 peaks were identified (N75, P100, N135). Flash VEPs could be recorded under both sedation and anesthesia and a maximum of 5 peaks were identified (N1, P1, N2, P2, N3). The latency of the N1 peak and the baseline-N1 amplitude were significantly longer under general anesthesia.

Visual evoked potentials should be preferentially recorded in dogs sedated with dexmedetomidine and butorphanol, regardless of the stimulus.

For assessing the HIV epidemic in Kenya, a series of independent HIV indicator household-based surveys of similar design can be used to investigate the trends in key indicators relevant to HIV prevention and control and to describe geographic and sociodemographic disparities, assess the impact of interventions, and develop strategies. We developed methods and tools to facilitate a robust analysis of trends across three national household-based surveys conducted in Kenya in 2007, 2012, and 2018.

We used data from the 2007 and 2012 Kenya AIDS Indicator surveys (KAIS 2007 and KAIS 2012) and the 2018 Kenya Population-based HIV Impact Assessment (KENPHIA 2018). To assess the design and other variables of interest from each study, variables were recoded to ensure that they had equivalent meanings across the three surveys. After assessing weighting procedures for comparability, we used the KAIS 2012 nonresponse weighting procedure to revise normalized KENPHIA weights. Analyses were restricted to geographic areasin HIV surveys in low-income settings. ABT888 Independent national household surveys can be assessed for comparability, adjusted as appropriate, and used to estimate trends in key indicators. Analyzing trends over time can not only provide insights into Kenya's progress toward HIV epidemic control but also identify gaps.

With the advent of the electronic age, the prolonged screen time (ST) of preschoolers in China is relatively high and is on the rise, which is likely to affect preschoolers' physical and mental health. This study aimed to explore the factors influencing ST in preschoolers, especially the role of parental factors, and to provide a basis for the prevention, control, and intervention of ST in preschoolers in China.

A questionnaire was completed by the parents of 1,546 preschoolers from four kindergartens in Pinghu City, Zhejiang Province, China, and a multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the correlates of excessive ST in preschoolers.

A total of 43.8% of preschoolers aged 3 to 6years, of which 50.3% were boys and 49.7% were girls, had > 1h/day of ST. Older preschoolers, greater screen accessibility, greater frequency of eating in front of a screen, longer ST of parents, and unclear rules of screen-based behavior were the risk factors for ST being > 1h/day (P < 0.05). After additional adjusting of maternal correlates, the relationship between the ST of fathers and ST of preschoolers was still significant (P < 0.01), and the dose-effect relationship was also observed (P < 0.001).

Prolonged parental ST (especially of fathers) and lack of rules for screen behavior were independent risk factors for prolonged preschoolers' ST in this study.

Neonatal sepsis is one of the leading causes of neonatal morbidity and mortality in developing countries like Ethiopia. The investigation of neonatal sepsis needs the application of inclusive diagnostic tools. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the role of CBC parameters in diagnosing neonatal sepsis.

A comparative cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2020 to November 2021 at the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital. A total of 250 neonates were included using a convenient sampling technique. A structured questionnaire and a data collection sheet were used to obtain the socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of the study participants. A venous blood sample was collected for CBC and blood culture tests. Epi-Info Version 7 and SPSS Version 25 were used for data entry and analysis, respectively. The data distribution was checked by the Shapiro-Wilk test. Then, an independent t-test was conducted to compare CBC parameters, and the significant parameters were recruitource-limited areas.

Total leucocyte count, ANC, and platelet count all showed significant associations with neonatal sepsis. Besides, the TLC, ANC, and platelet counts had good sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing neonatal sepsis. Therefore, these parameters can be used as a diagnostic tool for neonatal sepsis in resource-limited areas.

This study explores inequality of opportunity in terms of the health of adult Indonesian people, associated with household and parental circumstances in childhood and adolescence.

Exploiting the longitudinal nature of the Indonesian Family Life Survey, this study measures inequalities relating to being underweight, overweight, hypertensive and diabetic across adult Indonesians aged between 20 and 35 through the dissimilarity index. This study explores their determinants by decomposing the observed inequality levels into contributing factors. Moreover, this study sheds light on the underlying mechanisms through which early-life circumstances influence the health of grown-up respondents, by estimating the intermediate effects of early-life circumstances on current lifestyles.

For all health conditions, health risks are unequally distributed (all p<0.01). Demographic factors and parental health are major contributors to inequalities relating to being underweight, overweight and hypertensive. Family structure and parental occupation are major contributors to inequality in diabetes. The greater part of this inequality is explained by the indirect pathways through which early-life circumstances mediate current diet and exercise habits.

The results suggest that such interventions that compensate for disadvantaged early-life circumstances would be essential in reducing future health risks and mitigating health inequality.

The availability of chromosome-scale genome assemblies is fundamentally important to advance genetics and breeding in crops, as well as for evolutionary and comparative genomics. The improvement of long-read sequencing technologies and the advent of optical mapping and chromosome conformation capture technologies in the last few years, significantly promoted the development of chromosome-scale genome assemblies of model plants and crop species. In grasses, chromosome-scale genome assemblies recently became available for cultivated and wild species of the Triticeae subfamily. Development of state-of-the-art genomic resources in species of the Poeae subfamily, which includes important crops like fescues and ryegrasses, is lagging behind the progress in the cereal species.

Here, we report a new chromosome-scale genome sequence assembly for perennial ryegrass, obtained by combining PacBio long-read sequencing, Illumina short-read polishing, BioNano optical mapping and Hi-C scaffolding. More than 90% of the tont of productive varieties in perennial ryegrass and related species.

Coping with the pandemic caused by the SARS-COV- 2 has been a global challenge. To this end, several measures have been adopted to control the transmission of the disease and to ensure public safety. One factor that has greatly affected the community's behaviors, attitudes, and practices in Palestine has been religious beliefs.

This study aims to investigate the role of religion as a factor in adherence to the COVID-19 medical directives in Palestine.

A descriptive cross-sectional study was performed from August to October 2021. In this study, 1,353 participants were asked to complete a questionnaire that consisted of 20 items that measured the impact of religious beliefs and the role played by religious scholars in the promotion and application of medically-approved health directives and the rectification of COVID-19 related information. The data were analyzed by using SPSS version 22 software.

More than 50% of the participants agreed that religion has a positive impact on community adherence to the health instructions in the majority of studied items. The responses were significantly variable based on the age and place of residence in most of the questions (p-value < 0.05). However, gender and to a lesser extent, the level of education affected the responses to many research aspects less significantly.

Religion could be an effective tool in dealing with challenging health issues such as COVID-19. Intervention programs can be developed based on the community's religious beliefs, attitudes, and practices, to dispel myths regarding the disease and to encourage community commitment and adherence to health directives.
