However, the high-dose group was younger and had less dense breasts. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, the most important predictors of dose determination were breast thickness [odds ratio (OR) 1.178, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.156-1.200, p<0.001], history of previous surgery (OR 2.210, 95% CI 1.417-3.447, p<0.001), compression force (OR 1.008, 95% CI 1.004-1.013, p<0.001), and breast density (OR 1.873, 95% CI 1.359-2.580, p<0.001).

Women with larger breast volumes are subjected to higher doses of radiation. Therefore, breast-screening programs can be individualized to young women with larger breast volumes and women who have had breast-conserving surgery.

Breast augmentation surgery is one of the most common cosmetic procedures among women. In the present study, we compared personality traits, self-esteem, and body perception between women who had undergone breast augmentation surgery and a control group of women who had not. We hypothesized that the personality traits of women who had vs those who had not undergone breast augmentation surgery would differ.

According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, patients who had undergone breast augmentation surgery and age- and education-matched, healthy women were included in the present study. The breast augmentation group and control group were compared in terms of personality traits under the Basic Personality Traits Inventory. Additionally, self-esteem, which was assessed with the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and body perception, which was evaluated using the Body Cathexis Scale, were measured and compared between the two groups.

When the patients (n = 80) and the control group (n = 100) were compared, ndergone breast augmentation had more positive personality traits than women in an un-operated control group.

This study aimed to illustrate the epidemiological situation of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) by focusing on the changes published after 2019 and particularly the new approaches of cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery.

Article search was performed from January 2019 to date using the PubMed database. Fourteen articles were included in the qualitative evaluation of international data. Moreover, the latest reports regarding the total number of BIA-ALCL cases and number of deaths were identified.

Estimates of the risk and incidence have increased significantly recently, affecting 1 in every 2,969 women with breast implants and 1 in 355 patients with textured implants after breast reconstruction. The average exposure time to diagnosis was 8 (range 0-34) years. Approximately 80% of BIA-ALCL cases were diagnosed at IA-IIA stages, for which the treatment was breast implant removal, full capsulectomy, and excision of all suspected lymph nodes. Globally, at least 949 cases were reported to date.

At present, BIA-ALCL is an emerging pathology of interest. Data collection initiated since 2016 through different case registration databases is essential to ensure surveillance and to continue to increase the number of studies on this recently discovered pathology.

The cost of cancer care is increasing, but the satisfaction levels of patients and healthcare workers have not increased in line with this rise. Value-based care for cancer, especially breast cancer, should be implemented. For this reason, all unnecessary screening, tests, treatments, and follow-up parameters should be avoided.Unpaired1 (Upd1) is a ligand of the Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT) signaling pathway in Drosophila. In this study, using the CRISPR/Cas9 technique, we generate a transgenic fly strain in which a hemagglutinin (HA) epitope tag sequence is inserted into the endogenous locus of the upd1 gene. Anti-HA antibody staining confirms that the distribution of the epitope-tagged Upd1HA in various tissues is consistent with upd1 expression patterns revealed by previous studies. This transgenic fly strain will be useful in studying the expression, localization, and association partners of Upd1, and thus will contribute to understanding how activation of the JAK/STAT pathway is regulated.An unprecedented global health crisis has been caused by a new virus called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). We performed experiments to test if a hypertonic saline solution was capable of inhibiting virus replication. Our data show that 1.2% NaCl inhibited virus replication by 90%, achieving 100% of inhibition at 1.5% in the nonhuman primate kidney cell line Vero, and 1.1% of NaCl was sufficient to inhibit the virus replication by 88% in human epithelial lung cell line Calu-3. Furthermore, our results indicate that the inhibition is due to an intracellular mechanism and not to the dissociation of the spike SARS-CoV-2 protein and its human receptor. NaCl depolarizes the plasma membrane causing a low energy state (high ADP/ATP concentration ratio) without impairing mitochondrial function, supposedly associated with the inhibition of the SARS-CoV-2 life cycle. Membrane depolarization and intracellular energy deprivation are possible mechanisms by which the hypertonic saline solution efficiently prevents virus replication in vitro assays.There are limited data on post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) in the era of positron emission tomography (PET) and rituximab (R). Furthermore, there is limited data on the risk of graft rejection with modern practices in reduction in immunosuppression (RIS). We studied 91 patients with monomorphic diffuse large B-cell lymphoma PTLD at 11 Australian centers median age 52 years, diagnosed between 2004 and 2017, median follow-up 4.7 years (range, 0.5-14.5 y). RIS occurred in 88% of patients. For patients initially treated with R-monotherapy, 45% achieved complete remission, rising to 71% with the addition of rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, prednisolone (R-CHOP) for those not in complete remission. For patients initially treated with R-CHOP, the complete remission rate was 76%. There was no difference in overall survival (OS) between R-monotherapy and R-chemotherapy patients. Glutaraldehyde There was no difference in OS for patients with systemic lymphoma (n = 68) versus central nervous system (CNS) involvement (n = 23) (3-y OS 72% versus 73%; P = 0.78). Treatment-related mortality was 7%. End of treatment PET was prognostic for patients with systemic lymphoma with longer OS in the PET negative group (3-y OS 91% versus 57%; P = 0.01). Graft rejection occurred in 9% (n = 4 biopsy-proven; n = 4 suspected) during the entire follow-up period with no cases of graft loss. RIS and R-based treatments are safe and effective with a low likelihood of graft rejection and high cure rate for patients achieving complete remission with CNS or systemic PTLD.

Many studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) in addressing substance use problem. However, owing to the shortage of counsellors, it has not been widely used in China. With the development of smart medicine, we developed a web-based electronic SBIRT (E-SBIRT) program and explored the effectiveness of E-SBIRT in reducing substance use in China.

A randomised controlled trial will be conducted in primary healthcare institutions. Four primary healthcare institutions will be selected and randomly divided into an intervention group and a control group (each institution will recruit 60 participants, and in total, 240 participants will be recruited). The control group will get a pamphlet of drug abuse prevention, and the intervention group will get the E-SBIRT intervention and the pamphlet. Both groups will receive baseline and follow-up assessment at 1 and 3 months after the intervention. The primary outcome is the change in scores on the Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Use Involvement Screening Test, and the secondary outcomes include changes in motivation, depression, anxiety, positive/negative emotion, self-esteem, addiction knowledge and addiction severity index.

If the 'E-SBIRT' program is found to be effective, it will be an accessible, affordable and widely implementable intervention to help participants at moderate risk of substance use to reduce their consumption. The potential benefit is to provide early intervention to high-risk patients in time and reduce the harmful consequences to individuals and society.

Studies investigating associations between mammographic density (MD) and breast cancer subtypes have generated mixed results. We previously showed that having extremely dense breasts was associated with the human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2)-enriched subtype in Chinese breast cancer patients.

In this study, we reevaluated the MD-subtype association in 1549 Chinese breast cancer patients, using VolparaDensity software to obtain quantitative MD measures. All statistical tests were 2-sided.

Compared with women with luminal A tumors, women with luminal B/HER2- (odds ratio [OR] = 1.20, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.04 to 1.38;

 = .01), luminal B/HER2+ (OR = 1.22, 95% CI = 1.03 to 1.46;

 = .03), and HER2-enriched tumors (OR = 1.30, 95% CI = 1.06 to 1.59;

 = .01) had higher fibroglandular dense volume. These associations were stronger in patients with smaller tumors (<2 cm). In contrast, the triple-negative subtype was associated with lower nondense volume (OR = 0.82, 95% CI = 0.68 to 0.99;

 = .04), and the association was only seen among older women (age 50 years or older).

Although biological mechanisms remain to be investigated, the associations for the HER2-enriched and luminal B subtypes with increasing MD may partially explain the higher prevalence of luminal B and HER2+ breast cancers previously reported in Asian women.

The year 2020 was dramatically characterized by SARS-CoV-2 pandemic outbreak. COVID-19-related heart diseases and myocarditis have been reported.

A 45-year-old healthy male was admitted to the intensive care unit of our hospital because of cardiogenic shock. A diagnosis of COVID-19 infection and myocarditis was done. We present here several peculiarities about diagnostic workup, myocardial histological findings, choice of treatment, and the patient clinical course at 3 and 8 months of follow-up.

COVID-19 myocardial damage and myocarditis are mainly linked to the cytokine storm with mild myocardial inflammatory infiltrate and very unusual platelet microclots in the setting of the microvascular obstructive thrombo-inflammatory syndrome. Counteracting the inflammatory burden with an interleukine-1 inhibitor appeared safe and led to a dramatic and stable improvement of cardiac function.
