Purpose To investigate the ocular manifestations in 91 Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (WM) patients.Methods Retrospective, cross-sectional, observational analysis.Results Ocular impairments, detected in 19 patients, included flame-shaped hemorrhages, venous sausaging, papilledema, macular detachments, or central retinal vein occlusion in 16 patients; paraproteinemic keratopathy in 2; and a CANOMAD syndrome in 1. Best-corrected visual acuity was ≥0.5 logMAR units in 11 of 38 eyes. Intraocular pressure was increased in seven eyes. Genetic analysis in seven patients showed a mutation in the MYD88 gene in six patients and a nonsense mutation in the CXCR4 gene in five patients. Plasmapheresis followed by chemotherapy with or without the addition of rituximab resulted in improvement or normalization of the ophthalmological findings in 15 patients.Conclusion The ocular manifestations of WM are protean and potentially sight threatening. Recent advances in genomic profiling and chemotherapy have remarkably improved the hematological and ophthalmological outcomes of these patients.Purpose To report a case of acute unilateral posterior uveitis as a rare manifestation of giant cell arteritis (GCA).Observation A 62-year-old male presented to the clinic for evaluation of decreased vision in the right eye (OD). BCVA in OD was 20/60, and fundus examination revealed 3+ vitreous cells along with several inflammatory precipitates located in posterior vitreous and on surface of retina. Although TAB was inconclusive for GCA, the clinical diagnosis of GCA was made according to the GCA diagnostic criteria. This diagnosis was further supported by 18FDG-PET scan. The patient was started on corticosteroids, and the symptoms improved significantly after first week of treatment. At follow-up visit one month and half later, BCVA improved to 20/40 in the right eye.Conclusion Although GCA is rarely present with uveitis, in case of unilateral posterior uveitis in elderly patient, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis.Introduction The Ebola Virus outbreak in Africa is believed to be one of the deadliest viral infections that causes severe hemorrhagic fever in human and nonhuman primates, which has resulted in increased mortality rates in the affected African countries. Thus, the current study mapped and quantified global research output and trends in the EBOV vaccine publications via a bibliometric analysis.Methods Publications about the Ebola virus vaccine were extracted from the Web of Science and Scopus databases. HistCite, Bibliometrix, an R package, and VOSviewer.Var1.6.6 were used for data mapping and analysis.Results A total of 541 (WoS) and 511 (Scopus) documents were included, with a cumulation of 24,611 citations in both databases. These documents were published in 141 journals in the Wos and 185 in Scopus. The USA was the most productive country with 206 (38.08%) publications in the Wos. Although the top-cited authors are from the USA, the United Kingdom, and Canada, only one author from Africa "Samai M" from the University of Sierra Leone contributed 13 publications. Meanwhile, the Journal of Infectious Diseases was the most productive (45, 8.32%) in this field.Conclusion The study provides insight for researchers and health policy on the trends and progress of the EBOV vaccine research and development, focusing on the hot topics, research collaboration, and research dearth that requires urgent redress to fast-track an all-inclusive EBOV vaccine development.The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of calcium infusion versus cabergoline in the prevention of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) in IVF patients at high risk for OHSS. One hundred and seventy patients who were stimulated using the long luteal GnRH agonist protocol and at high risk for developing OHSS were randomised in a 11 ratio to cabergoline group and calcium gluconate group. In cabergoline group, 0.5 mg of cabergoline was administered once daily p.o. for eight days starting on the day of HCG administration. In calcium gluconate group, intravenous calcium gluconate (10%, 10 ml in 200 ml of physiologic saline) was administered daily for four days starting on the day of ovum pickup. Six patients in cabergoline group and eight patients in calcium gluconate group developed moderate OHSS. One patient in each group developed severe OHSS. The incidence of moderate/severe OHSS was comparable between both groups (8.24% vs. 10.59%, p value  =  .599, OR = 0.76, 95% CI [0.269-2.138]). Non-targeted effects, including bystander and systemic effects, play a crucial role during Auger targeted radionuclide therapy. Here, we investigated whether small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) produced by irradiated cells could contribute to the bystander cytotoxic effects invitro and also to therapeutic efficacy invivo, after their injection in tumor xenografts.

B16F10 melanoma donor cells were exposed to radiolabeled antibodies (Auger radioimmunotherapy, RIT) for 48 h or to X-rays (donor cells). Then, donor cells were incubated with fresh medium for 2 h to prepare conditioned medium (CM) that was transferred onto recipient cells for bystander effect assessment, or used for sEVs enrichment. Resulting sEVs were incubated invitro with recipient cells for determining bystander cytotoxicity, or injected in B16F10 melanoma tumors harbored by athymic and C57BL/6 mice.

In vitro analysis of bystander cytotoxic effects showed that CM killed about 30-40% of melanoma cells. SEVs isolated from CM contributed to tAuger RIT through bystander effects invitro. No systemic effects were observed invivo, under our experimental conditions. However, X-rays experiments showed that sEVs collection time might be influencing the nature of sEVs, a parameter that should also be investigated during Auger RIT.

Among 33 children enrolled in the study, 31 (94%) children presented with complaints of constipation with mean duration of 2.3 ± 2.5 years and 12 (36.4%) children also had associated complaints of faecal incontinence with mean duration of 3.5 ± 2.8 years. Seven children (21.2%) had normal high-resolution anorectal manometry parameters; anal sphincter hypotonia with decreased squeeze in one child, anal sphincter hypertonia with other abnormal parameters were noted in 25 and absent recto-anal inhibitory reflex in two. Bibliographic databases were searched for primary research from any year. Data were analyzed quantitatively and narratively. Ninety-seven studies met inclusion criteria. The most commonly studied vaccines were pneumococcal (n = 46), influenza (n = 44), diphtheria/tetanus/pertussis/poliomyelitis/Haemophilus influenzae type B/hepatitis B-containing (n = 36), and measles- and/or mumps- and/or rubella-containing (n = 29). Immunocompromising conditions studied included cancer/stem cell transplants (n = 24), solid organ transplants (n = 23), sickle cell disease (n = 21), immunosuppressive therapy (n = 14), human immunodeficiency virus (n = 12), splenectomy (n = 4), and primary immunodeficiency (n = 2). Despite the well-characterized role of collagen and specifically type-I collagen, as a ligand for host cells, its role as a substrate for bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation is less explored. Therefore, the purpose of this review is to discuss recent findings regarding the adhesion of oral bacteria to collagen surfaces and its role in the progression and severity of oral and systemic diseases. Initial oral colonizers such as streptococci have evolved collagen-binding proteins (cbp) that are important for the colonization of dentine and periodontal tissues. Also, periodontal pathogens such as Porphyromonas gingivalis and Tannerella forsythia utilise cbps for tissue sensing and subsequent invasion. Muscle afferent sensitization contributes to the genesis of the exaggerated EPR in CHF. However, the cellular mechanisms underlying muscle afferent sensitization in CHF remain unclear. Considering that voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels critically regulate afferent neuronal excitability, we examined the potential role of Kv channels in mediating the sensitized EPR in male rats with CHF. Real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blotting experiments demonstrate that both mRNA and protein expressions of multiple Kv channel isoforms (Kv1.4, Kv3.4, Kv4.2, and Kv4.3) were downregulated in lumbar dorsal root ganglions (DRGs) of CHF rats compared with sham rats. Immunofluorescence data demonstrate significant decreased Kv channel staining in both NF200-positive and IB4-positive lumbar DRG neurons in CHF rats compared with sham rats.
