In symptomatic COPD patients with a history of exacerbations, additional treatment with inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) to long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA) and long-acting beta-agonist (LABA) combination therapy is recommended based on the evidence of low incidence of exacerbations but with a caution for pneumonia. However, ethnic differences may affect the response to drugs. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of this treatment in the Japanese population (PROSPERO CRD42020191978).

We carried out a time-trend analysis for 36 European countries using the official World Health Organization database.
We extracted the number of deaths and population data over the 1980-2017 period, and calculated age-standardised (world population) mortality rates for each cancer considered, sex, country, and the European Union (EU) as a whole, at all ages; at ages 35-64 yr for prostate, bladder, and kidney cancers; and at ages 20-44 yr for testicular cancer. For selected major countries, we carried out a joinpoint regression analysis to identify significant changes in trends. We also predicted the number of deaths and rates for 2025, using a logarithmic Poisson count data joinpoint regression model.

The increase in intraabdominal pressure (IAP) has been correlated with increased creatinine levels in patients with heart failure with severely reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (HFrEF). However, IAP has not been examined in more stable patients or those with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).
We conducted an observational, prospective descriptive study that measured the IAP of patients hospitalised for decompensated heart failure (HF). The sample was stratified according to left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), with a cut-off of 50%. The objective was to analyse the IAP, the baseline characteristics and degree of congestion using clinical ultrasonography and impedance audiometry.
The study included 56 patients, 22 with HFrEF and 34 with HFpEF. The patients with HFrEF presented a higher prevalence of ischaemic heart disease (11% vs. 6%; p=0.010) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease/asthma (6% vs. 2%; p=0.025). The IAP was higher in the patients with HFrEF (17.2 vs. 13.3mmHg; p=0.004), with no differences in renal function at admission according to the LVEF (CKD-EPI creatinine) (HFrEF 55.0mL/min/1.73m

Many laboratories rescreen Papanicolaou test slides initially interpreted as negative, but positive for human papillomavirus (HPV) high-risk types, as a quality control measure. We have evaluated the utility of this practice in the era of HPV genotyping as a laboratory improvement project.
Between August 2016 and October 2019, we identified 3618 rescreened Papanicolaou tests with follow-up biopsies. The biopsy results were put into 3 groups 1) Negative; 2) LSIL HPV changes or low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion; and 3) HSIL high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion or carcinoma. HPV molecular testing results with subtyping for types 16 and 18 were available for 3117 of these cases.
