Maternal mortality is unacceptably high in our region. In 2015, the Latin American Center for Perinatology and Women´s Reproductive Health (CLAP) created a regional network of institutions including 16 countries, committed to improving epidemiological surveillance and healthcare of women in a situation of abortion or near miss event, using a common platform, the Perinatal Information System (SIP). The objective of the current pilot project was to test a new method of study called EviSIP (Evidence from SIP), a method of generating information on maternal near miss and abortion for the region. We describe the implementation of this initiative in reproductive healthcare facilities using SIP. Junior researchers/clinicians from these countries were included, along with expert researchers in reproductive health from across the world. Articles were produced with data on maternal near miss and abortion gathered from the SIP of each participating sentinel center; and recommendations from experts. EviSIP was the first joint workspace to discuss patient outcomes after treatment of abortion or near miss cases, with data analysis of each Sentinel Center; discuss and analyze data among centers, at a country and regional level; discuss the main outcomes and their impact on changing procedures and policies; strengthen the operational research capacity of the centers; develop and encourage the publication of scientific articles. The EviSIP initiative also promoted training of healthcare professionals in research. EviSIP provided a unique opportunity to train for research and mentorship and was pivotal to the production of scientific knowledge of reproductive health in the region.Key findings are presented from an empirical study profiling 1,474 cases of honor-based abuse (HBA) known to police and victim services in England and Wales. Thematic and quantitative (regression) analyses were used to investigate whether and how HBA differed from other forms of domestic abuse and forced marriage. A new typology of HBA is proposed, based principally on the relationship(s) between victim and perpetrator(s). Interpreted within an overarching lens of gender-based violence, it is argued that Type 1 (partner abuse) and Type 3 (partner plus family abuse) are culturally specific forms of domestic abuse, whereas Type 2 (family abuse) is distinct.Islet transplantation is considered as one of the promising treatment options for curing diabetes. However, the extracellular matrix (ECM) is destroyed during the process of islet isolation and extraction, which leads to decreased islet activity in vitro. ECM-based biomaterials which used to reconstruct the microenvironment of cells have been applied in various fields. find more In this study, an electrospinning hybrid scaffolds with silk fibroin (SF) and pig pancreatic decellularized extracellular matrix (P-dECM) have been prepared to mimic the islet ECM in vivo. Furthermore, the activity and function of islet were evaluated in vitro. The microstructures, hydrophilia and the main components of scaffolds were characterized by SEM, contact angle analysis and immunohistochemical experiment. The toxicity of stents was assessed by MTT assay. Cell activity and function were estimated by the live-dead cell staining, immunofluorescence, glucose-stimulated insulin secretion assay and q-PCR. A nanofiber scaffold with good hydrophilicity, non-toxic and retention of key ECM components has been obtained, which can improve the survival and promote and function of islets. This scaffold can be a promising candidate for pancreatic tissue engineering and provides a new strategy for islet transplantation.
It remains controversial whether patients with
-mutant lung adenocarcinoma should stop using epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) after progression during treatment.
We report a 35-year-old man with poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma of the left upper lobe and an
mutation found by large-panel next-generation sequencing. The patient underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery 12 months after oral administration of icotinib 125 mg tid, and the left upper lobe and surrounding lymph nodes were removed. Postoperative pathology supported a diagnosis of left upper lobe adenocarcinoma and subcarinal (1/2), main pulmonary artery window (1/2), and left hilar (1/2) lymph node metastases. The
mutations in the residual lesions had disappeared, and Ex19Del mutations were still visible in the mediastinal lymph node metastasis.
Spatial heterogeneity of the resistance mechanism may explain why patients who continue to receive EGFR-TKIs in combination with local therapies (e.g., radiotherapy) for progressing lesions may benefit even after progression during EGFR-TKI therapy. The loss of the
mutation allele as a putative resistance mechanism requires additional preclinical and clinical confirmation.

Cat is susceptible to SARS-CoV-2. However, the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 in cats remains largely unknown. Here, we investigated the infection of SARS-CoV-2 in cats during COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan by serological detection methods. A cohort of serum samples were collected from cats in Wuhan, including 102 sampled after COVID-19 outbreak, and 39 prior to the outbreak. Fifteen sera collected after the outbreak were positive for the receptor binding domain (RBD) of SARS-CoV-2 by indirect enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Among them, 11 had SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibodies with a titer ranging from 1/20 to 1/1080. No serological cross-reactivity was detected between SARS-CoV-2 and type I or II feline infectious peritonitis virus (FIPV). In addition, we continuously monitored serum antibody dynamics of two positive cats every 10 days over 130 days. Their serum antibodies reached the peak at 10 days after first sampling, and declined to the limit of detection within 110 days.
