In the current study, we employed an in-silico approach to decipher the possible role of bacterial proteins in the initiation and progression of AD and PCa. We further analyzed the molecular connections between these two life-threatening diseases. In addition, cell signaling pathways, such as Akt, IGF, and Wnt contribute to the progression of both AD and PCa. Besides, various proteins and genes are also common in disease progression. Silencing CPNE1 could effectively suppress tumor proliferation, accelerate cell apoptosis and arrest cell cycle in vitro. A wide range of numerical models have been developed to analyse nano-particle transport and deposition (TD) in different parts of airways. However, a precise understanding of nano-particle TD in large-scale airways is still unavailable in the literature. This study developed an efficient one-path numerical model for simulating nano-particle TD in large-scale lung airway models. This first-ever one-path numerical approach simulates airflow and nano-particle TD in generations 0-11 of the human lung, accounting for 93% of the whole airway length. The one-path model enables the simulation of particle TD in many generations of airways with an affordable time. The particle TD of 5 nm, 10 nm and 20 nm particles is simulated at inhalation flow rates for two different physical activities resting and moderate activity. It is found that particle deposition efficiency of 5 nm particles is 28.94% higher than 20 nm particles because of the higher dispersion capacity. It is further proved that the diffusion mechanism dominates the particle TD in generations 0-11. The deposition efficiency decreases with the increase of generation number irrespective of the flow rate and particle size. The effects of the particle size and flow rate on the escaping rate of each generation are opposite to the corresponding effects on the deposition rate. The quantified deposition and escaping rates at generations 0-11 provide valuable guidelines for drug delivery in human lungs.

Sciatica results from primary or secondary damage to the sciatic nerve in the lumbar or gluteal region. The first option for sciatica is analgesics, but their therapeutic effect and safety in long-term use are questionable. On the other hand, acupuncture has recently been recognized as a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) to conventional medicine, and studies on its effectiveness and safety have been actively conducted.

To systematically compare acupuncture with analgesics in terms of effect, safety, and durability in the treatment of sciatica METHODS This review was performed in accordance with Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions Version 6.2. Four databases were searched for this review Wangfang, the Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal (KTKP), PubMed, and EBSCOhost. The primary outcome measures in the review were total effective rate (TER), visual analog scale (VAS) score and pain threshold, and the secondary ones were adverse effects (AEs) and relapse rates. Risk ratio (R [0.64, 1.22], P<0.001). Additionally, adverse effects (AEs) and relapse rates of RCTs in the review were lower in the acupuncture group compared to the analgesic group.

Investigations into the structure and diversity of E. coli in free-ranging wildlife species has been limited. The objective of this study was to characterise intra-individual and inter-species E. coli phylotype and B2 sub-type diversity in free-ranging Australian pinniped pups, to determine whether a single E. coli colony is representative of the phylotype and B2 sub-type diversity in these hosts. Faecal samples were collected from free-ranging Australian fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus doriferus), Australian sea lion (Neophoca cinerea) and long-nosed fur seal (Arctocephalus forsteri) pups from three breeding colonies between 2018 and 2021. Faecal swabs from thirty randomly selected pups (n = 10 from each species) were cultured and ten E. coli colonies were selected from each culture based on morphology and separation between colonies on agar plates. Molecular screening techniques were utilised to assign isolates to phylotypes and B2 sub-types. There was no significant difference (p > 0.05) in either intra-individual or inter-species E. coli phylotype and B2 sub-type diversity. The B2 phylotype was the most dominant, with 78% of isolates (n = 234) assigned to this phylotype. Host factors (species, weight [kg] and standard length [cm]) did not significantly affect phylotype diversity. The absence of intra-individual and inter-species differences in E. coli diversity at a phylotype level suggests that a single E. coli colony could be used as an indicator of overall diversity of E. coli at a phylotype level in A. p. doriferus, N. cinerea and A. forsteri pups. Receptors like B-cell lymphoma 2/adenovirus E1B-interacting protein (BNIP3), BNIP3L, prohibitin2, tacrolimus (FK506)-binding protein8 (FKBP8), autophagy-beclin1-regulator1 (AMBRA1) and SMAD-ubiquitination regulatory factor1 (SMURF1), etc. participate in receptor-mediated mitophagy. In recent studies, receptor-mediated mitophagy showed protective effects in AKI. This review summarizes the evidence related to mitophagy in AKI and outlines the significance of receptor-mediated mitophagy modulation as a possible therapeutic approach in AKI.

Pancreatic cancer belongs to lethal cancer with limited efficient treatment currently, and its main cause of death is rapid tumor growth and early metastasis. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification is a new method of epigenetic gene regulation involved in tumor progression, in which methyltransferase-like 3(METTL3) is the sole catalytic subunit. However, the role of METTL3 in pancreatic cancer remains to be explored.

m6A level was measured using MeRIP assay, and RT-qPCR and western blot were applied to determine mRNA and protein expression, respectively. However, the spatiotemporal distribution and trophodynamics of QNs in transit-station lakes for water diversion are not well documented or understood. In this study, a comprehensive investigation of QNs in water, sediment, and aquatic fauna, including norfloxacin (NOR), ciprofloxacin (CIP), enrofloxacin (ENR), and ofloxacin (OFL), was conducted in Luoma Lake, a major transit station for the eastern route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project in China. The target QNs were widely distributed in the water (∑QNs 70.12 ± 62.79 ng/L) and sediment samples (∑QNs 13.35 ± 10.78 ng/g dw) in both the non-diversion period (NDP) and the diversion period (DP), where NOR and ENR were predominant. All the QNs were detected in all biotic samples in DP (∑QNs 80.04 ± 20.59 ng/g dw). The concentration of ∑QNs in the water in NDP was significantly higher than those in DP, whereas the concentration in the sediments in NDP was comparable to those in DP.
