LPA yielded four subgroups, three of them have been theoretically hypothesized in previous works (i.e. flourishing, moderate mental health, languishing), but an emotionally vulnerable subgroup also emerged. Compared to the languishing group, this new subgroup demonstrated higher scores on prosocial behaviour, but had comparable level of loneliness and internalizing symptoms. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that the MHC-SF is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing overall well-being and its components. In addition, the identification of young people to be at risk for low mental health may help us to tailor mental health promotion programs to their special needs.BACKGROUND Since the first case of a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection pneumonia was detected in Wuhan, China, a series of confirmed cases of the COVID-19 were found in Southwest China. The aim of this study was to describe the imaging manifestations of hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19 infection in southwest China. METHODS In this retrospective study, data were collected from 131 patients with confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from 3 Chinese hospitals. Their common clinical manifestations, as well as characteristics and evolvement features of chest CT images, were analyzed. RESULTS A total of 100 (76%) patients had a history of close contact with people living in Wuhan, Hubei. The clinical manifestations of COVID-19 included cough, fever. Most of the lesions identified in chest CT images were multiple lesions of bilateral lungs, lesions were more localized in the peripheral lung, 109 (83%) patients had more than two lobes involved, 20 (15%) patients presented with patchy ground glass opacities, patchy ground glass opacities and consolidation of lesions co-existing in 61 (47%) cases. Complications such as pleural thickening, hydrothorax, pericardial effusion, and enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes were detected but only in rare cases. For the follow-up chest CT examinations (91 cases), We found 66 (73%) cases changed very quickly, with an average of 3.5 days, 25 cases (27%) presented absorbed lesions, progression was observed in 41 cases (46%), 25 (27%) cases showed no significant changes. CONCLUSION Chest CT plays an important role in diagnosing COVID-19. The imaging pattern of multifocal peripheral ground glass or mixed consolidation is highly suspicious of COVID-19, that can quickly change over a short period of time.BACKGROUND Chronic respiratory diseases constitute a considerable part in the practice of pulmonologists and primary care physicians; spirometry is integral for the diagnosis and monitoring of these diseases, yet remains underutilized. The Air Next spirometer (NuvoAir, Sweden) is a novel ultra-portable device that performs spirometric measurements connected to a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth®. METHODS The objective of this study was to assess the accuracy and validity of these measurements by comparing them with the ones obtained with a conventional desktop spirometer. Two hundred subjects were enrolled in the study with various spirometric patterns (50 patients with asthma, 50 with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and 50 with interstitial lung disease) as well as 50 healthy individuals. RESULTS For the key spirometric parameters in the interpretation of spirometry, i.e. FEV1, FVC, FEV1/FVC and FEF25-75%, Pearson correlation and Interclass Correlation Coefficient were greater than 0.94, exhibiting perfect concordance between the two spirometers. Similar results were observed in an exploratory analysis of the subgroups of patients. Using Bland-Altman plots we have shown good reproducibility in the measurements between the two devices, with small mean differences for the evaluated spirometric parameters and the majority of measurements being well within the limits of agreement. CONCLUSIONS Our results support the use of Air Next as a reliable spirometer for the screening and diagnosis of various spirometric patterns in clinical practice.BACKGROUND Fetuin-A and adiponectin present significant associations, supported by recent evidence, with metabolic syndrome (MS) featuring hyperglycemia, central obesity and insulin resistance as the main components, but their biological functions are opposite. The aim of this study was to verify whether fetuin-A/adiponectin ratio (F/A ratio) is a more sensitive indicator for evaluation of MS than either fetuin-A or adiponectin. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, 465 elderly subjects were selected from the physical examination database. Serum levels of fetuin-A and adiponectin were measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient, linear regression and logistic regression analysis were adopted to estimate the correlations of fetuin-A, adiponectin and F/A ratio with MS and its components, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to evaluate the predictive values of the aforesaid indices. RESULTS Compared with fetuin-A or adiponectin, F/A ratio was significantly associated with all the components of MS, and this correlation was significant even after adjusting potential confounding factors (P less then 0.05). Logistic regression analysis indicated that F/A ratio presented a stronger correlation with incident MS (adjusted OR 1.466; 95% CI 1.189-1.808) than fetuin-A (adjusted OR 1.100; 95% CI 1.020-1.186) and adiponectin (adjusted OR 0.760; 95% CI 0.664-0.871) alone. ROC analysis revealed that F/A ratio achieved a larger area under curve (AUC) than fetuin-A and adiponectin, with their AUC values of 0.755, 0.709 and 0.708, respectively. CONCLUSION F/A ratio is a more sensitive index for evaluating MS than either fetuin-A or adiponectin in the elderly.BACKGROUND The optimal adjuvant treatment for stage III endometrial cancer in the era of modern radiotherapy remains undefined. We investigated the benefit of adjuvant radiotherapy for women who underwent optimal resection for stage III endometrial cancer in the era of modern radiotherapy. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed patients with endometrial cancer who were treated between 2010 and 2018. Adjuvant treatment included radiotherapy by modern radiotherapy techniques (intensity-modulated or volumetric modulated arc radiotherapy), chemotherapy, or both. Recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method and analyzed via multivariate Cox proportional hazards models. RESULTS One hundred sixty-one patients were initially included (52, 9, and 100 with stages IIIA, IIIB, and IIIC cancer, respectively); 154 patients (96%) received adjuvant therapy. Such adjuvant treatment was associated with improved RFS (p = 0.014) and OS (p = 0.044) over surgery alone. selleck chemicals llc Adjuvant radiotherapy by modern radiotherapy techniques led to low incidence of acute (25%) and chronic (7%) grade ≥ 2 gastrointestinal toxicity.
