The Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma (MaRCC) Registry provides prospective data on real-world treatment patterns and outcomes in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC).

Patients with mRCC and no prior systemic therapy were enrolled at academic and community sites. End of study data collection was in March 2019. Outcomes included overall survival (OS). A survey of treating physicians assessed reasons for treatment initiations and discontinuations.

Overall, 376 patients with mRCC initiated first-line therapy; 171 (45.5%) received pazopanib, 75 (19.9%) sunitinib, and 74 (19.7%) participated in a clinical trial. Non-clear cell RCC (21.5% of patients) was associated with worse median OS than clear cell RCC (18.0 vs. 47.3 months). Radiology referrals are assessed for appropriate imaging based on the available clinical information. The task is legally the responsibility of the radiologists but could be delegated to radiographers under guidance. Knowledge of how this task is organised in radiology departments is limited. The study aim was to identify workplace factors facilitating the radiographers' assessment of referrals for medical imaging.

Five radiographers were recruited by convenience- and snowball-sampling techniques through the online social media platform LinkedIn. The participants represented different private and public hospitals and had from three to above ten years of experience with assessment of referrals for plain and cross sectional imaging. Following a qualitative approach, 60-min in-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted through online video meetings. Interviews followed a topic guide with 15 questions and 20 keywords, previously tested through a pilot interview. Systematic text condensation was performeding or improving referral assessment by radiographers. Subsequently, improved quality of patient services may be achieved.

The integration of AI in medical imaging has tremendous exponential growth, especially in image production, image processing and image interpretation. It is expected that radiographers working across all imaging modalities have adequate knowledge as they are part of the end-user team. The current study aimed to investigate the knowledge, willingness and challenges facing the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technologists in the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into MRI practice.

Total of 120 participants were recruited using a snowball sampling technique. A two-phase study was undertaken using survey and focus group discussion (FGD) to capture participants' knowledge, interpretations, needs and obstacles toward AI integrations in MRI practice. The survey and FGD provided the base to understand the participant's' knowledge, acceptance and needs for AI.

Results showed medium to high knowledge, excitement about AI integration without disturbance of MRI practice. Participants thought that AI can an important role in patient's safety at the MRI unit to reduce incidents. When transplanting artificially constructed tissues, a poor vascular network restricts oxygen and nutrient supplies to the tissue cells, which leads to cell death and reduced rates of tissue engraftment. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a system that builds a vascular network within 3D tissues. Here, we developed a hypoxia-responsive gene expression system for production of an angiogenic factor, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), to improve hypoxia and nutrition deficiencies inside artificial 3D tissues. We demonstrated that cells into which the hypoxia-responsive VEGF gene expression system had been introduced autonomously controlled VEGF expression in a hypoxic stress-dependent manner. Next, we confirmed that VEGF expression within a 3D cell sheet was induced in response to a hypoxic environment in vitro. The genetically modified cell sheet was subcutaneously transplanted into mice to evaluate the feasibility of the hypoxia-responsive VEGF gene expression system in vivo.
