Adverse effects that result from dexamethasone (DEX) use are common and serious in patients with asthma. Therefore, alternative anti-inflammatory treatments are being investigated. Isoimperatorin (ISO), an active natural furocoumarin, possesses multiple pharmacological properties, including an anti-inflammation effect. In this study, investigations were conducted on the effect of ISO on mast cell (MC) activation in vitro and whether ISO could reduce the effective dose of DEX in a mast cell-dependent murine model of asthma in vivo. Calcium imaging was used to assess intracellular Ca2+ mobilization. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to measure the chemokines release. A combination of DEX and ISO may be appropriate if a decrease in the steroid dose is desired owing to dose-dependent adverse effects.Purpose To investigate the daily setup, interfraction motion, variability in the junction areas, and dosimetric effect in craniospinal irradiation (CSI) patients. Methods Fifteen CSI patients who had undergone split-field IMRT were followed in the study. Previous, middle, and posttreatment, each target volume position was evaluated using the ExacTrac system. Interfraction and intrafraction motions, the margin of the junction in adjacent targets volumes, and the dosimetric effect of the longitudinal residual error were analyzed. Results The lowest attainment rate within the tolerance of the initial setup error was 66.79% in six directions. The values of the initial error were within 15 mm (SD 4.5 mm) in the translation direction and 5° (SD 1.3°) in the rotation direction after the transposition of the treatment isocenter. With the guidance of the ExacTrac system, the interfraction and intrafraction residual errors were almost within the tolerance after correction, the margin of CTV-to-PCTV was in the range of target expansion criteria. The residual longitudinal errors resulted in only slight changes in the mean doses of PGTV and PCTV, while the maximum dose of the spinal cord increased by 16.1%. The patients did not exhibit any side-effects by the overall treatment during the follow-up period. Conclusions Position correction is necessary after setup and the transposition of the treatment isocenter. Intra-fraction motion in the lateral direction should be monitored throughout treatment. The position errors in junction areas are almost within the tolerance after correction. The patients did not exhibit any side-effects by the overall treatment.Aims High expression of the RNA-binding motif protein 3 (RBM3) correlates with improved prognosis in several major types of cancer. The aim of the present study was to examine the prognostic value of RBM3 protein and mRNA expression in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods and results Immunohistochemical expression of RBM3 was evaluated in surgically treated NSCLC from two independent patient populations (n = 213 and n = 306). Staining patterns were correlated with clinicopathological parameters, overall survival (OS), and recurrence-free interval (RFI). Cases with high nuclear RBM3 protein expression had a prolonged 5-year OS in both cohorts when analyzing adenocarcinomas separately (P = .02 and P = .01). RBM3 remained an independent prognostic factor for OS in multivariable analysis of cohort I (HR 0.44, 95% CI 0.21-0.90) and for RFI in cohort II (HR 0.38, 95% CI 0.22-0.74). In squamous cell carcinoma, there was instead an insignificant association to poor prognosis. Also, the expression levels of RBM3 mRNA were investigated in 2087 lung adenocarcinomas and 899 squamous cell carcinomas assembled from 13 and 8 public gene expression microarray datasets, respectively. The RBM3 mRNA levels were not clearly associated with patient outcome in either adenocarcinomas or squamous cell carcinomas. Conclusions The results from this study support that high protein expression of RBM3 is linked to improved outcome in lung adenocarcinoma.Depression is a common mental disorder characterized by high incidence, high disability, and high fatality, causing great burden to the society, families, and individuals. The changes in brain plasticity may be a main reason for depression. Recent studies have shown that exercise plays a positive role in depression, but systematic and comprehensive studies are lacking on brain plasticity changes in depression. To further understand the antidepressive effect of exercise and the changes in brain plasticity, we retrieved related literatures using key words "depression," "depressive disorder," "exercise," "brain plasticity," "brain structure," and "brain function" from the database of Web of Science, PubMed, EBSCO host, and CNKI, hoping to provide evidence for exercise in preventing and treating depression. Increase in exercise has been found negatively correlated with the risk of depression. Randomized controlled experiments have shown that aerobic exercise, resistance exercise, and mind-body exercise can improve depressive symptoms and levels. The intensity and long-term effect of exercise are now topical research issues. Exercise has been proven to reshape the brain structure of depression patients, activate the function of related brain areas, promote behavioral adaptation changes, and maintain the integrity of hippocampal and white matter volume, thus improving the brain neuroprocessing and delaying cognitive degradation in depression patients. Future studies are urgently needed to establish accurate exercise prescriptions for improving depressive symptoms, and studies on different depressive populations and studies using multimodal brain imaging combined with multiple analytical methods are also needed.
